The Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, reopened on March 13, 2023, following its entire renovation and extension project. The hotel has not experienced such a transformation since its first opening in 1913. 110 years after opening, the “Grande Dame” enters a new century and we are delighted to write the next chapter of its history. The hotel is fully renovated and has two extended wings unveiling new suites, an interior garden of 2,000sqm with a bar and an infinity pool, a fitness & spa and a 1,800sqm conference center. Life at the Carlton Cannes begins anew yet is as sublime as ever.

I have been coming to Cannes since the early 80s and even lived there as a student once for half a year. My first stays were in 2* hotels and I always glimpsed at the big luxury hotels at the Croissette which I could not afford in the 80s and 90s. Later stays were spent in some of these hotels, but never at the Carlton since in the 2000s and 2010s it had a reputation of having small rooms and being run down and in need of a good renovation. It was apparently then acquired by a Quatar investment group and shut down for the much needed refurbishment and then the moment came when my wife and I decided to give it a try. We visited out of season in November, had booked a nice sea view room and got an even better free upgrade into a suite on the top floor. We were warmly welcomed by the doormen and reception. The hotel and interiors looked so beautiful and everything was top clean. Concierge service was great and my wife said she had the best ever massage in the SPA. We certainly enjoyed the quiet time of the year. We did not eat at the hotel since we already have our favourite restaurants in Cannes and nearby which we always visit. We will certainly come back and a booking for next May is already made.

Hotel's Favorite
We have been staying at the Carlton since the 1990s around 2016 we stopped staying at the hotel as it was just a little worse for ware and needed a good renovation. We have just stayed two nights and wow they really have done an exceptional job. The rooms have gotten the much needed revamp that they needed. They are clean white fresh and everything has been thought of. Lobby is beautiful they have moved the reception and concierge so it opens the whole entrance a lot more. What I think they have done so well they have created a whole beautiful back courtyard incl. a pool. The service was exceptional and we loved it. One point we will make is that they have now moved the delivery section of vans etc to rue du canada so this is a little more of a busier road than before however they have replaced the windows with state of the art windows so you can’t hear a peep. The aircon is quiet so you can close the windows and not hear a thing. - Bathrooms are still a little small but clever as they have removed the bath. - Duvets are very heavy more for a winter stay - if I was staying another night I would have requested thinner duvets. - Patio drinks area and breakfast room has sadly lost a bit of its charm of old French vibes. It’s more like a big hotel chain now. Beautiful bar created in the courtyard tho so I would recommend sitting there instead. Overall 5 star experience and well done on the renovation.

The hotel is spectacular, both inside and outside. Admired the Carlton Cannes such a beautiful glamorous hotel with original features every detail is breathtaking. Loved the stunning flower arrangements which enhanced the ambiance. Great location at the very heart of La Croisette. Reception staff made us feel most welcome with grace and efficiency. Our room a premium City view with balcony offered partial views of the Mediterranean Sea this was magnificent. The room was spacious with unparalleled levels of comfort. Luxury bedding crisp, sumptuously soft sheets, like falling asleep inside of a cloud. The bedroom decor was elegant and light. The room had all the five-star ultra modern luxurious amenities; Dyson hairdryer, Nespresso coffee machine, bathrobes, slippers and products from Aqua di Parma was a nice touch. The house keeping staff did a wonderful job, our room was immaculately clean. Perfectly manicured interior garden full of vibrant plants and flowers, the outdoor infinity pool was a pleasant place to soak up the ambience in this picturesque setting. Relaxed in the sun and enjoyed a refreshing swim in the inviting dazzling blue pool a wonderful experience. Nice breakfast spread, freshly cooked omelettes, crepes and delicious French pastries. The staff were friendly and the service was outstanding. As a diamond elite member appreciated having the benefit of late checkout this was a bonus so we could keep enjoying hotel's facilities. Remarkable hotel, with a professional team made cherished memories

We hadn't stayed at the Carlton since pre Covid and the huge refurb and were worried it might have lost its charm but fear not, it's a stunner! Our room was an enormous 37sqm with side seaview via a Juliet balcony. Breakfast remained in the lovely front room with the outdoor terrace- 42 euros each if not in your room rate. Staff were all really friendly and helpful from doormen to reception, breakfast and the bar. No snootiness or disdain for us despite being a couple of Londoners staying on IHG points. The beach club was sublime though often fully booked so book chairs early. We paid 100 euros a day for two chairs and a parasol but couldn't secure a row 1 slot which was fair enough as I guess the suites take priority. Service on the beach was very efficient with lovely drinks and a great lunch. The courtyard pool and garden looked lovely though was often completely shaded. I didn't check whether sitting there would incur a fee as a previous reviewer said but if so that seems peculiar and irritating. The only oddity we found was the huge winter quilt - great for that fisherman's hut in Norway but boiling for summer in Cannes even with the quiet aircon on max. We twice asked to swap to a summer quilt or simple blanket but curiously this couldn't be done and in the end housekeeping simply rolled the huge quilt down the bed and left us a sheet. We also found it odd not getting water on turndown but reception said you could use the water in the fridge. Odd as the menu said this was 8 euros each. So a couple of little tweaks needed but overall a successful stay. We loved the plush refurb though I slightly miss the old lobby bar where Grace Kelly and Cary Grant sat in To Catch a Thief - until recently it had the same evocative vibe but now it's just beige lobby seating This is a first world problem however and we can highly recommend this exciting posh hotel as luxe, cool, and filled with light - welcome back to lovely Cannes

Carlton Cannes is a truly wonderful hotel. The temperature of the outdoor infinity pool (28 degrees Celsius, year round, biggest in town) was only eclipsed by the warmth of the cadre of “loyalty ambassadors” for whom no is a forbidden word. In an establishment with 332 rooms and suites, being greeted in a corridor by name says so much about the hotel’s relentless attention to detail. The total cost of acquisition and renovations is understood to nudge €800 million and the staff headcount peaks at a staggering 800 in high season. Housekeeping and F&B were consistently strong during our stay, with a splendid buffet breakfast and an a la carte offering at Riviera that dazzles. Carlton Cannes evokes an easy smile from its management, staff and patrons - it is not difficult to see why. Sir Elton John staged his comeback in the ‘80s with the “I’m still standing” video filmed on site. Loved since 1913, the grande dame continues to hit the high notes.

Very disappointed by the service in this 5 star hotel! Upon arrival we were first told by the receptionist that our Room was ready, this then changed to 40min then 2 hours as she couldn’t get hold of room service for an update! When we got to the room we were told that our luggage would be brought straight up but it took numerous phone calls from us chasing them and the bags took 1 hour to arrive. On a day when it rained and they could not use the terrace for breakfast it was chaos, we had to queue for 30min plus to get seated, not what you’d expect paying so much for rooms here! We were told that the water in the room would be replenished daily by house keeping but it wasn’t, several calls on several days to house keeping to get this resolved. Upon checking out our bill was much larger than expected as they had charged us for breakfast, which was included in our original room booking costs! Eventually after we emailed the receptionist our booking the cost was removed so don’t assume they have your bill correct, check everything!!

For a whopping $1,300 per night, be prepared to be treated worse than if you are staying at a motor inn. Promised a 12:00 pm check, then something before 3:00, I wasn’t able to check in until after 3:39. I went to the front desk and called half a dozen times, either ignored or treated with utter disregard. Even for the French, this service was deplorable. Unless you want to be treated like garbage, never ever visit this hotel. Certainly undeserving of it’s five star rating.

I visited the beach club in summer 2021 and absolutely fell in love with the Carlton service. I could really see why this was such a highly rated name - the servers were excellent, the food was good for beach food, the vibe was lovely, the facilities were clean etc etc … still on the pricey side, but when you get value for money you don’t mind. Fast forward a year and me and my partner came to Cannes on a bae-cation after I spoke to highly of the place and of course we chose to stay at the Carlton. We had booked just their standard room for 5 nights which came to just under a £1000 a night - our initial impressions were nothing short of disappointing. The lady at reception offered us an apparent upgrade with a view of the garden. When we got to the room I could not believe my eyes when I saw how small the room was, to put it into perspective, it was a bed and bedside tables and that was all the floor space taken. The wardrobe was insanely small, the toilet was separate to the bathroom because there was no physical room for it, and unless you’re expected to sleep on top of your luggage, I’m not sure where suitcases are supposed to go… so of course we raised the issue as when booking the stay, the square footage advertised was not the same as what we received. Also just to add, our ‘upgrade’ to a garden view was actually just a view of the hotel, even when hanging out the window you could only just see the garden - if I’d of paid for this room initially for the view and came to discover this is where I was staying, I’d be fuming. The man we spoken to at reception named Soto (apologise if I have spelt that incorrectly) was lovely. He was really understanding and helped us find a room that we were expecting - so we moved. This room was bigger, still on the smaller size for £1000 per night but expected from Cannes. The wardrobe also had no doors and the aircon only partially worked, im not sure if this room was maybe just unfinished? but at this point we were so over it that we just accepted. We were about to settle in when my partner went to use the toilet, to find an old musty POO in the toilet, and no I’m not joking. In a hostel in the middle of Thailand, you half expect this kind of thing. But in a ‘luxurious’ hotel costing £1000 a night for their most basic room, the last thing you expect is literal human faeces. We of course called back and the maid was sent round straight away, they were very apologetic, but an apology at this point wasn’t going to cut it. Fast forward half an hour and we were out of the room and upgraded to one of their suits - this room was lovely, nothing spectacular but a fantastic size. The management staff here really did go above and beyond - the also extended our stay an extra night since our first night was completed ruined. The door staff on the other hand were a completely different matter. To put it bluntly, if you’re an Arab man or a women selling yourself you’ll be treated like royalty and welcomed with open arms, if you’re a normal humble person who’s just happened to do well in life, you’ll be looked at like scum. The amount of member of door staff that looked us up and down every time we went to walk into the hotel was insane, what’s even more insane is that these members of staff, won’t even be on a good enough salary to be able to afford to stay at this hotel… it’s laughable There is also an additional fee to use the sun loungers round the pool, never in my life of travelling and staying in some amazing hotels do you have to pay to sit around a pool, what’s next, charging your guests every time they want to flush the toilet? Maybe that would explain the random poo we found. Overall I would absolutely never stay at this hotel again, the hotel is in a great location and the exterior architecture of the building is stunning, but I do think it’s time the Carlton realise that their clientele is no longer classy well read individuals as I expect it once was. Visit with caution

If you’re an Arabian man or a sex worker, you’ll get on just fine. Otherwise, you’ll probably be looked up & down by every single member of staff, including the bell boys & valet guys out front… who for some reason, seem to place themselves on a high horse & scan guests up and down, as if the cars they park up all day or the suitcases they roll up to rooms will ever be their own. The first night we arrived, we were ‘upgraded’ into a room which you couldn’t swing a cat in, it was that small. I’ve never stayed in a hotel at near on £1000 a night where the room you get is so ridiculously small & where there’s nothing luxurious about it. I complained & asked to be moved back into one of the rooms I’d booked originally, since they’re a bit bigger, but instead we were moved into another ‘upgraded’ room which whilst being fine in size, again lacked any sort of wow factor in terms of value for money & worse, there was a turd left in the toilet which was God knows how old, but it hard turned cloudy, so I guess at least a couple of days. So our first night was ruined & at this point, I’m ready to move down the road & into a sea view suite for a couple of grand more to ensure that I receive value for money. At which point, we’re moved into a top floor suite with city & partial sea view which to be fair, was lovely. Nothing necessarily wow about it & I’ve stayed in far better rooms, but perfectly nice. The thing which sucks, and certified the fact I’d never return to this hotel, is the general staff who seem to think it’s appropriate to look guests up & down, as if they’re on any position to. If I treat you with respect whilst you’re working a job on what I imagine is close to minimum wage, I expect the same courtesy back. That said, I appreciate I’m not an Arab man or a female sex worker, whom seem to have no issue with the staff looking them up & down, and instead have their tongues well and truly up their backsides. Foul vibe & really lacks class.
