Stayed one night in this beautiful, well preserved, and luxurious hotel in the middle of a mediaeval village. Wish we had more time to stay. Outstanding service and amazing staff (need to mention some names: Pascal, Moses, and our friend who lived in Toronto for a while - sorry forgot your name). They all go above and beyond to make you comfortable and give you a memorable experience. Kudos to your entire team. We will certainly go back next year for a longer stay.
We spent our first two nights in country here and could not have been happier! First be aware that the hotel and the old town have LOTS of steps! The staff at the hotel will help with your bags; that really helps. You park below the town because there is no parking in the walled village from the 11th century. The bellman, Moses from Cadiz, Spain, will pick you up and transport you to a medieval masterpiece of a village! Parking was free. Room was 165 euros, a true bargain! We had a big room with vaulted ceilings, king bed, and nice antique furnishings. The public areas were beautiful! We had dinner here and I rate it 5 stars as well. The view from the restaurant is superb and the roof opens to the sky, wow!!! The entire staff is super friendly and all speak at least a bit of English; our French is not so good... We love this place and will return for a longer stay the next time we are in the Cote d'Azure!…
This hotel is a perfect place to relax and unwind in the most stunning town. From the minute you arrive to the moment you leave you are looked after impeccably. The rooms are amazing (we were in Fournier), the breakfast is delicious and the views are breathtaking. We didn’t have a car so walked everywhere and easily caught a train to both Nice and Antibes with no problems at all. You should absolutely visit here, we can’t wait to come back!
Our family of 4 stayed at Chateau Le Cagnard and found the hotel a delight. It's a beautiful property and charmingly furnished/decorated (the mural in the lounge is gorgeous and the little bar tucked away on the side is a jewel-box). The staff were exemplary. so friendly, helpful and warm. Many hotels train their staff to 'act' friendly, but rarely do they achieve genuine friendliness. Le Cagnard has managed to achieve authentic welcoming warmth. The restaurant is excellent and the breakfast service also very good. Highly recommend.
We’ve just returned from a 3 night stay at this lovely boutique hotel. My partner had originally booked 2 years ago but the trip was postponed due to covid. We arrived from the airport by hire car and parked in a free car park near the cemetery, and then walked up to the hotel from there rather than negotiate the very narrow winding streets of this hilltop village. We checked in and our room was Zeim (The rooms are all named after painters) it was accessed from the street and was a long narrow room with French windows at the end, with a view towards the sea. The room was very rustic. White washed walls and antique furniture. There was 2 single beds pushed together. A TV, safe, mini bar, a Nespresso machine, a wardrobe with plenty of hanging space. The bathroom was large with underfloor heating. Thee was a separate shower as well as a roll top slipper bath and a big sink. The toiletries were from The White Company. Robes and slippers were also provided and the towels were good quality. We were here bed and breakfast and the Breakfast was served in the restaurant which was a beautiful room with French leading onto a terrace. Everything you could possibly want: bacon and eggs, fresh breads, cheeses, meats, yoghurts, cereals. Pastries, decent coffee machine, fruit juices and fresh fruit. All delicious and the waitress was very friendly and pleasant, as were all the staff we come across during our stay. The housekeeping staff do a great job. We were certainly made to feel welcome and although the restaurant wasn’t yet reopened, there are a few restaurants within a 5 minute walk near the main square and chateau of the village. We did have a drink in the bar before going out to eat and thought 12 euros for a glass of red wine a little expensive, but the bar is cosy and comfortable. Only real negative for us was a group of girls staying in a room below us who were noisy and inconsiderate . There was drunken singing and smoking outside our window and didn’t quieten down till 1.30 am, I can’t blame the hotel for this and I wouldn’t imagine this is typical of the guests staying here. If it wasn’t for this I’d have given 5 stars, but this spoilt our stay somewhat.…
We have stayed in more luxurious hotels and perhaps more comfortable quarters. But Le Cagnard delivers what many establishments strive for and rarely achieve: a warm and genuine hospitality that permeates the premises and makes you wish to return. It comes from the singularly kind and insightful staff. They treat you more as a friend than merely a guest. We had the privilege of staying here some 30 or so years ago. The careful restorations do justice to the essence of the artist colony village. It is tempting for my generation to fall back on a prejudice or mind set that hotels and restaurants were run with more professionalism and discipline "in the old days". Monsieur Levard and his team exemplify and confirm that contemporary practice need not be superficial or generic. An older hotel presents daily challenges. The wifi was wobbly, which can and will be fixed. The television service, theoretically, offered a few English language channels, which were "not available". The breakfast buffet was adequate, but not inspiring, probably a victim of Covid protocols. But one comes to Cagnes-Sur-Mer for the ambiance of the old village, savoring the medieval architecture and an appreciation of the 19th and 20th century artists who worked there. The hotel and the town make life easier, with a small shuttle car and an electric mini-bus. But until you climb the old cobbled streets and stairs, you haven't begun to appreciate this one of a kind community. Our junior suite, Bonnard was comfortable and provided a charming little terrace. The luxurious bath towels and updated bathroom provided a pampering dividend. Oddly, one room had no light fixtures. The restaurant, and its terrace offer culinary virtuosity and a delightful vista. In sum, this is a hotel that you will want to experience again and again.…
Charming hotel in a medieval town. Each room is different an named after an artist. I stayed at Thor, which has a lovely terrace with great views over the valley and the French coastline. The room decoration is French style with all the modern comfort. A great place to spend a leisure weekend away to disconnect.
We spent there three nights during August! The employees are very friendly and special the hotel manager tries his best for the high quality of service! Money for value! The hotel offers an excellent romantic atmosphere but the village too! Strongly recommend!
Lovely Chateau Hotel located near the top of the old town. Room was very clean and beautifully decorated. Amazing views. Great for a night, we were able to visit the old town and the Chateau Grimaldi on foot, walking distance. The roads are very narrow and challenging, so if you have a car, parking is a bit far from the hotel and walking to the hotel is a steep vertical climb. The hotel offers a service to collect you from the parking lots nearby and to bring you back. The hotel restaurant has a lovely terrace with spectacular views and a very friendly and helpful staff. While Cagnes-sur-mer itself was not my favourite town along the cote d'azure, I would definitely recommend this hotel for a nice romantic weekend or night away.
This was a surprise for my 50th Birthday from my partner, just for 3 days.... Upon arrival Martin came to welcome us and showed us around the restaurant and took us to our room, carrying our luggage which was so lovely and helpful. They had upgraded us to a room with a balcony and stunning view which we are so very grateful for. It made our stay even more special... Room was beautiful as was the linen and bed was incredibly comfortable, happily could have stayed in bed for much longer than intended. Breakfast was varied with fresh fruit, salmon, fresh juice, cooked breakfast, different pastries and breads - very enjoyable indeed. Coffee was great too! My only disappointment is that we weren't able to eat there on either night of our stay. We'd booked in for the first night on my birthday but this was cancelled as they had a function on., but they tried to accommodate us as best they could, offering food to our room and then booking us in another restaurant which was very helpful of Martin. Sadly the night emergency porter wasn't on duty on our final night, since we experienced issues with flights due to the storm. Unable to book a taxi from the hotel was very stressful at 5am and frustrating, especially with a language barrier and nearly missed our flight .... Just would have been less stressful if the night porter was on to handle our taxi booking. We were also given a complimentary bottle of wine too which was so lovely!! Honestly, overall the staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. We both feel very privileged to have stayed in such a beautiful location. Do visit the castle and the church, both are amazing and the restaurants in the square are wonderful too. As with any new destination, you need a few days to find your rhythm and get a feel for what to do and what not to do... but we loved it! Fully recommended a stay there and I'd like to return in the future xx Claire and Stef ♥️ Thank you to Chateau Le Cagnard for hosting our stay!! x…
