We stayed at Le Chevalier Noir for 4 nights and absolutely loved our stay. We wanted a relaxing break at the end of a busy week of weddings and rushing around - this was the perfect spot. It started with a warm welcome from the host Paul, who was helpful throughout. He went the extra mile for us - booking restaurants and making great recommendations. He even bought extra cheese we loved for breakfast... when in France. We had a lovely room with spectacular views and spent our time reading, walking around the picturesque village of Cordes-Sur-Ciel and relaxing by the pool. There are some lovely walks in the area and if you have a hire car, there're plenty of unique and quirky medieval towns to visit. We would happily return - we highly recommend.

Property's Favorite Review
Booked here after a word-of-mouth recommendation that Le Chevalier Noir was the perfect place to spend time away with some old friends. How true that advice proved to be. An impressive property in a beautiful village set in glorious countryside. That is just the foundation; when you build in superb hosting and delicious, fresh produce for breakfast, and you have a top-notch destination for a break. Paul and Daniel run this haven of tranquility with a smile, a can-do attitude and the guest's happiness at the centre of their aspirations. Help and advice is there at the drop of a question or query. My bedroom was large, with a very comfortable bed and stunning views from all windows. Breakfast? Wow! From Paul's wonderful creation of fresh and local tomatoes, to croissants, baguettes and the like, this was a feast to set you up for the day. Outside the house, there are a number of areas to sit and enjoy the spectacular views, as well as the opportunity to lie back and relax around the swimming pool. Add into the mix the historic, fascinating and hugely pretty village of Cordes-sur-Ciel, which is simply a delight to explore on foot directly on leaving the gates of Le Chevalier Noir, and you have a fascinating, breathtaking and unique trip to savour. I could go on, but suffice to say, Le Chevalier Noir is an outstanding base from which to acquaint yourself with the magnicent village and the outstanding area as a whole, as well as enjoying the residence in its own right.

Driving up to Cordes sur Ciel, one of the most beautiful villages in France you will find Le Chevalier Noir clinging to the hillside offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside. On arrival Paul made us most welcome, eager to make sure we had all we needed. Our room, in the eaves of the house gave us beautiful views and one morning had sight of the morning mist for which the village is famous. Paul's local knowledge is most helpful, restaurant reservations and advice on places of interest in particular Albi Cathedral and the Henri Toulouse Lautrec museum. Paul will also arrange a special treat for you, a balloon flight over the local countryside. An unforgettable experience! You are guaranteed a warm welcome at Le Chevalier Noir. We have no hesitation in recommending a stay to everyone

I wanted to whisk my mum away for a trip after 3 years home bound since Covid hit. We only had 3 nights to spend but how we wish it were longer. Unfortunately we arrived later in the evening than planned and had not had supper, but the welcoming host Paul rustled up some bread and artisan cheeses and a local butchers speciality of potted ham, that couldn’t have been more delicious and just what we needed after a long journey. In the morning I was awestruck by the view across the valley when I drew the curtains of my top floor room tucked under the eaves of this stunning and imposing inn. Breakfast proved equally good, at our table on the terrace (and that view) with a fine selection of bread and croissants, fruit and yogurt, meats and cheeses and excellent coffee. Paul advised us of villages to visit each day and things to do, but we could have easily never left cordes with its cobbled streets and impressive medieval architecture, and the swimming pool provided opportunities to relax and read. Our visit was over too soon but we will definitely return.

We had a lovely room with two windows giving great views. The bathroom had been recently redone and had a fabulous shower. The whole set up suited us and we had a lovely relaxing week. It was the sort of place where you get to know the other guests. Probably the main reason we had such a great time was our host, Paul. He gave us good ideas for places to visit. He booked tables at restaurants which he recommended. He even booked some e-bikes for a group of us and led us on a day's biking. He made it his job to see that we had the best time.

· Our stay at Le Chevalier Noir was truly wonderful. The location is excellent , within walking distance of all the sights and restaurants in Cordes but still very quiet and private. Our room was large and had a beautiful view over the valley below and the pool was a great place to cool off at the end of the day. But what makes this place truly exceptional is the host Paul. His enthusiasm for the area and all it has to offer coupled with his genuine desire to ensure all his guests have a wonderful time made this a holiday to remember! We made firm friends with the other guests and were genuinely sad to leave this wonderful place.

It's difficult to imagine what more this could offer. Cordes is an absolute treasure, with enough buzz and visitors to support extensive bar and restaurant options, but not so much that you feel you're on a tourist trail. Le Chevalier Noir is a beautiful retreat, within easy walking distance of the centre of the village as well as the various cafes, restaurants and bars in the surrounding area. We stayed in the gite, and made good use of the excellent kitchen and barbecue that was provided. We hired a car, which was great for exploring the wider area - Albi was beautiful and all of the recommended restaurants were outstanding - plus we hired bikes and kayaks to further enjoy the scenery and to keep the teenagers entertained. All of this was facilitated and coordinated by the brilliant Paul and Daniel, who provided whatever guidance and encouragement was needed to get the most out of the week. Thoroughly recommend!

After an intense week in Paris doing all the usual touristy stuff (and more), our decision to unwind in Cordes sur Ciel was just what the doctor ordered! Where to start? I don't think many foreigners know that France has this ancient rural flavor to it also. The 800 year old hilltop fortress village was practically a time capsule - It's easy to imagine no cars and the residents/visitors in period attire during your trip in the "way-back" machine. Nearby Albe and St. Antonin were equally charming, though not quite as quaint as Cordes. Our B&B, the Le Chevalier Noir, was in the heart of the fortress. At a mere 150 years old, it still blended in perfectly with the surroundings - yet the renovations and amenities were thoroughly up to date. Hosts Paul and Daniel have got hospitality down pat and treat their guests as visitors in their home. Interactions with the other guests just happened naturally, and added to the charm of our visit. We highly recommend a ballon ride and and taking the short early-morning trek to see the sun suddenly light up the village hillside. Finally, of course France is known for its food and there is no shortage of nearby fine dining in relaxing atmospheres, without the stuffiness, formality, and crowds of Paris. We especially loved the restaurant S. Callipyge!! Our French vacation would not have been complete without this side-trip to Cordes sur Ciel and staying at the Le Chevalier Noir.

I’m sitting here in our modern condo life in Virginia, writing this review two weeks after spending nine days in the magical, medieval village of Cordes-Sur-Ciel and in the marvelous “cocoon” of Le Chevalier Noir. Every bit of that experience is still with me, even more so. Derek and I arrived in Cordes-Sur-Ciel after spending an exciting, intense, and emotional week in Paris, having renewed our vows for our 35th wedding anniversary. Nine days in this charming medieval city in the south west of France, in a lovely home, pampered by innkeepers Paul and Daniel, made for a memorable second honeymoon! Romance in France. Oh-la-la! As I marinate in the memories, I marvel at the reality of it all. How gracious the innkeepers Paul and Daniel, how spectacular the morning meal, how grand the views, how exquisite every piece of furniture and art, how perfect the location, how heartwarming the conversations with other guests. How fascinating, how comfy, how artsy, how fun! How everything was easy and hospitable beyond words. How helpful and knowledgeable and friendly the service we received! How adventurous the dreamy hot air balloon ride, the hike to the incredible sunrise, the excursions to nearby towns. How romantic the lingering meals and cocktails at S. Callipyge, the walks hand-in-hand down ancient streets, the wild dancing at a medieval festival… Paul and Daniel are truly pros with passion. And Daniel’s photo souvenirs? Truly “the gift that keeps on giving.” Le Chevalier Noir et Cordes-Sur-Ciel, nous te portons dans notre coeur. ♥️🇫🇷♥️

This was my 3rd time staying at Le Chevalier Noir and this time I brought my 25 year daughter with me for a few days break before the peak holiday rush. Needless to say my daughter was not disappointed having heard so much about the property from me and seeing photos from my past trips. We had lovely hosts and very healthy breakfast (all local fresh produce). The bonus was , owner Paul is an accomplished cook and he had started his pop-up restaurant which we had the pleasure to try out. It was fantastic!! A superb holiday at a beautiful property set in the most idyllic village ❤️
