Detailed Reviews
Le Chevalier Noir is a beautiful mansion with warm hosts who take great care of their guests.
As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed with a nice cup of coffee and tea.
It is very easy to communicate with Daniel, who speaks English and Mandarin. Paul is less expansive but speaks excellent French for an English speaker.
We stayed in a beautiful family suite with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and two toilets on the top floor, with a clear view of the countryside,
Excellent bedding and soft towels in the bathroom.
Dinners were delicious and prepared by Paul. Daniel takes care of the service and provides the atmosphere with the other guests,
In the morning we were served breakfast according to what we wanted to eat. Daniel and Paul give good advice for walks or visits and if they have time they accompany their guests.
However, due to the bad weather, we could not enjoy the garden, the large swimming pool and hardly the terrace.
But this is an excellent reason to come back to Cordes sur Ciel.

My daughter and I stayed at this wonderful place for 5 nights and as mentioned in so many other reviews, it really is the hosts that make it so special. The property itself is beautiful with stunning views from our balcony and also from the terrace where we had our breakfast each day. There is also a delightful pool area (which was very welcome when the temperature hit 40C!). Paul and Daniel couldn't have made us more welcome. From a refreshing cup of (perfectly brewed) tea when we arrived, to organising bicycles (which were delivered to us at the property) booking a kayaking trip and recommending (and booking) restaurants, wineries and places to visit. Paul even came with us on our bike ride which was a tremendous help as he took us on a perfect and picturesque route amongst sunflowers, vineyards and small villages and made sure we didn't get lost! Our room was spacious with ensuite bathroom and small balcony, parking was right outside and breakfast was delicious with a choice of fresh bread, croissants, meats &cheeses, granola and fruit. Due to restrictions caused by Covid, they were no longer offering evening meals but were very happy for us to bring in food from outside on occasion and eat it on the terrace, on our balcony or by the pool. Daniel was always on hand with the camera to make sure that we had plenty of photographs to take home! Cordes is a beautiful village and the surrounding areas and towns are also stunning. It did happen to be intensely hot that week so having to don our masks at every museum, cathedral or place of interest was quite stifling (albeit necessary!) However, it was lovely to get away after being locked down for months in London and we were so pleased to have found the absolutely delightful Chevalier Noir and its super hosts, Paul and Daniel. It really was like staying with good friends.

This place is absolutely amazing ! We were greeted by the hosts on arrival who were so warm and friendly and shown to our rooms. The rooms were elegantly decorated and spacious with beautiful views of the french countryside. The house has several living rooms, all rustic and full of charm and character, one even has a log burner which was perfect for the December evenings. Breakfast was excellent quality with fresh bread, cheese and pastries as well as eggs made to order served with fresh coffee and juices. It was only a 5 minute walk to the medieval village which was abundant with shops and restaurants and had a very quaint feel to it. Would I stay here again ? ABSOLUTELY ..... this is France at its very finest !!!

Your hosts Paul & Daniel are very friendly and aim to give you a pleasurable stay . We stayed for 5 nights and were charmed . The house is decorated in a period style with many antiques. The beds are comfortable with good quality linen and pillows . The room has a fan but no aircon . The rooms are very spacious, the walk in shower was modern with masses of hot water . We took a kettle as we like early morning tea , Paul will provide milk in a communal fridge . There is a lovely lounge for guests but without a TV in the room or the lounge . Wi -fi throughout the house is excellent and Paul or Daniel will communicate with you on Whats App . We were interested in photography and we were taken on a guided tour of the best places in Cordes . This is part of the bespoke service that Paul provides. He recommended places and booked us our evening meals every day . He is proud of being awarded Best of The Best by Trip Advisor and the reviews support this accolade.
Rooms are serviced on request . Valuable can be put in a safe , on request . The rooms do not have keys to lock them but the host assured us that there have been no problems . I enjoyed the pool but beware the mosquitos late in the day , we were given a room spray for the bedroom . I can recommend this outstanding B & B .

I visited Le Chevalier Noir together with my mum for 3 nights. It was an incredibly overwhelming experience for both of us. From the first moment when we were very warmly welcomed from Paul and Daniel we felt at home. The view from the property and from the room was breathtaking. The rooms are super nicely decorated, reflect the charm of that historic time and offer all amenities you expect from a modern room.
Breakfast was great, comes with fresh local products and the hosts are open to any special requests.
There are activities for everyone: Strolling through the romantic historic village of Cordes-sur-Ciel, hiking in the most beautiful scenery, biking, kayaking, hot-air balloon rides, wine tasting, dining.
3 days are not enough to get all of it! Thanks to the wonderful hosts Paul & Daniel for their dedication and focus on our needs. It was an unforgettable experience and we will be back!

There is something truly special about waking up to sweeping mist covered views from your immaculately appointed room overlooking the beautiful Tarn countryside. Yet a stay at Le Chevalier Noir in the Hadden will offer you that plus so much more.
Firstly, your hosts. You will be hard pressed to find a more warm, welcoming, and attentive duo than Daniel and Paul. They answered all questions with incredible speed and fulfilled our numerous requests for dining arrangements, regional guidance, etc. We even got some wonderful candid shots from Daniel acting as resident photographer.
Secondly, the house. From the moment you walk through the gates you feel transported into a soothing respite from the outside world. Kept but not overly manicured grounds, a terrace perfect for dining, and a fabulous pool complete the atmosphere. Our stay was linked to wedding and Daniel and Paul hosted a fantastic welcome dinner on the terrace area that went extraordinarily well. The aforementioned Hadden room with balcony facing the valley has lovely period furnishings and is quite spacious.
Finally, Cordes itself. If you are exploring a stay at Le Chevalier Noir then I likely have little need to extol the virtues of this picturesque medieval city in southern France. A visit to Cordes-sur-Ciel will create fond memories - a stay at Le Chavlier Noir will make those memories last a lifetime.

We just stayed at the Chevalier Noir, a beautiful heritage property with a heavenly view over the rolling French countryside. If you like authentic stays in dreamy locations, you will not be disappointed. Hosted by the congenial Daniel and Paul, this gorgeous house has lovely, spotless rooms with private bathrooms, a pool overlooking the vineyards and mountains and a pretty dining room and lounge. Our room had a large, comfortable bed, soft linens and even had a little terrace accessed through antique French doors. Daniel and Paul expertly directed us to the area's finest restaurants and sights, while providing a lovely breakfast featuring the freshest croissants, breads and cheeses. They made us truly feel at home in this undiscovered corner of France. Cordes Sur Ciel is a captivating ancient town with cobblestone alleys, views, art galleries and shopping but none of the trashy tourism found elsewhere. We also took the short drive to beautiful Albi. The cathedral and Tolouse Lautrec Gallery are not to be missed. We were captivated by it all and so glad we stayed at Chevalier Noir!

Once you leave the main road you don’t just climb but you step back in time. The little medieval gem that is Cordes sur Ciel makes you feel incredibly privileged to visit such a spectacular and unique place. Paul runs the guest house and eased our way in to the village by staying in touch while we were driving, guiding us through a few loopholes, not least the fact that there suddenly appeared to be a petrol shortage to add to the fun. We had no problem reaching Chevalier Noir though and checked in to our room on the 3rd floor which had the most spectacular views over the valley. Paul was a very genuine host with one thing in mind, to look after his guests and make them feel welcome. We were travel weary and he had no hesitation in providing us with an evening meal that completely suited our moods and we sat on the terrace looking out over the most magnificent sky and cloud formation. A real gem, a very tranquil place to stay and a very hospitable host. I think I’m right in saying the guest house is shutting for a bit now and I hope Paul will go somewhere to recharge his batteries and have a well earned rest before another season starts. A great stay and it suited us like a glove!

What a wonderful place! Firstly the setting was overwhelming when arriving, entering the gates to the garden which overlooked the pool and had the most amazing views!!
The house it’s self is beautiful, beautifully decorated and all the rooms are spacious with luxury details that made the stay even more perfect.
Breakfast was delicious with fresh warm bread and pastries every morning from the bakery, with wonderful french cheeses, cereals, fresh juice and homemade jams .....there was more options but too many too mention.
My room was at the top of the house, a huge room, with a huge bed which was beautifully decorated, as is the rest of the house, the bathroom was luxurious even having branded toiletries and a GHD hairdryer.... it was perfect.

· Our stay at Le Chevalier Noir was truly wonderful. The location is excellent , within walking distance of all the sights and restaurants in Cordes but still very quiet and private. Our room was large and had a beautiful view over the valley below and the pool was a great place to cool off at the end of the day. But what makes this place truly exceptional is the host Paul. His enthusiasm for the area and all it has to offer coupled with his genuine desire to ensure all his guests have a wonderful time made this a holiday to remember! We made firm friends with the other guests and were genuinely sad to leave this wonderful place.
