We stayed just one night in the bedroom orchide after we purchased a motorcycle in Castres, This is not a 5 star Trump hotel but a Napoleonic villa and has all the character and ambience of that period. Food was super tasty and plenty of it. The breakfast included in the room tariff was more than ample and delicious. Pascal was the perfect host.

Warm welcome and greeting to this unusual and fun hotel. Our late afternoon arrival, dusty and tired from a long day’s drive in sixty year old open sports cars over the mountains from Spain, was met with a broad smile, help with bags and express check-in to the cool of our rooms. These ranged from the grand and large, furnished in period furniture to a 1960’s themed and very ‘hip’ suite, with vinyl LP records decorating two walls either side of its enormous modern low level bed, matching side tables, bed side lamps and tree limb decorative sculpture. A few cool beers after some essential car maintenance preceded dinner, a very carefully selected and excellent three course menu and accompanying own house wines. Breakfast, as with dinner, was well presented and generous in its choice and range. As an out of the way quiet hotel, Domaine de la Vivarie, is very well worth a visit - you’ll be made most welcome and looked after at this hotel, surrounded by tranquil countryside. What’s more, few hotels can produce 8mm threaded nuts from stock to repair a guest’s car engine - Domaine de la Vivarie did!

We arrived early and were met by a disgruntled manager/owner, I have a large car and we were made to park where it was getting attacked by overhanging trees and foliage everywhere. The building was more like amityvile than the photos when I booked. The owner curtly told us we were early so we offered to go into Castres and return later so as not to inconvenience him ? He grunted, turned and beckoned us to follow him, his jeans displayed a 12 inch split across his right buttock leaving his bare cheek fully exposed ? We entered the building which was met by the stench of tobacco and stale odour and he went upstairs to our room, it smelt worse. He then proclaimed that he was indeed the human key and that there was no locking mechanism for our door. Having personal belongings left unguarded and open to anyone, plus our own safety compromised by an open door policy is unacceptable, security, it is primary and the most essential part of a room for hire ? He then disappeared better than David Blane, we called, shouted, rang reception, absolutely nothing so after a few minutes we left. This is by far the worst hotel and experience we have ever encountered in our many years of travel and has a totally unacceptable guest ethic, I have checked other reviews who have also fell foul of the Castres flasher

We stayed here for four nights. The house is very old with lovely grounds. We had quite a large bedroom with two large built in wardrobes, large comfortable bed, desk, coffee table, four chairs, coffee machine, kettle, television with only French programs (not that we minded), large bathroom with two wash basins across the hall with a screen to protect privacy. The breakfasts were very good and the dinners even better. We loved it here. Merci Jean pour votre hospitalite.

Beautiful interior and rooms; note the grand wooden staircase. Quiet setting, comfortable bed with very spacious room; ours was decorated in shades of purple. Superb breakfast and dinner, very good value as owner is an excellent chef. This is a good base for day trips. Don’t pass up this one!
