My daughter & I visited Paris over the Easter holiday & chose the Chess hotel as it gave an impression of character & comfortable accommodation. The location of the Chess Hotel is perfect. Train stations are easily reached & an excellent variety of restaurants, bars & cafes. Plenty of department stores also close by. Our room was soundproofed when the window was closed as the noise from nearby streets can be loud ! The staff were hospitable & very helpful. Not sure if face towels are standard in French hotels but we had to ask every day for those & I got the impression that they were not obliged to provide them. However, plenty of towels & other supplies in the bathroom. Not keen on the wash basin design & water took a long time to drain away. Great shower though & nice hot water. Our room was comfortable with adequate storage. The floor was not always cleaned well with dust visible sometimes. Pleasant breakfast in the dining room every morning. Always spare seating available. Food & drinks/beverages were most enjoyable but we needed to ask for plates & cups every day. However, the staff attended to this at once. Internet connection needs improving.

I like the fact that you need an access card to enter the hotel's premises, then into the lift to the 1st floor where Reception was. We had a nice warm, big room with windows that opened out to the street below and you could see the opposite building. Toiletries were given but there are days when an item or two was not replaced and we had to request for it. Locality was great with easy access to main shopping area and restaurants. Staff were very courteous, attentive and helpful. Breakfast was great, we had free breakfast for the last 2-3 days of our stay for inconvenience caused due to the malfunctioned lift, courtesy of the Hotel Manager.
We would stay here again in future but it will be in the colder months as the hotel runs a central air conditioning system, that can be warm for us but cold for others.

The hotel is very well located, a block from the Opera where you have several metro lines and the area is very nice to walk. It is also close to the Gare du Nord if you arrive by train or by RER B from the airport. The rooms were very well appointed and of good size and the breakfast was very nice. Prior to my arrival I contacted the hotel with several requests and I want to congratulate their manager Pierre-Louis for all his professionalism, always responding and attending very quickly to my requests.

The room I stayed in was on the 5th floor, facing the street. It was a spacious room (for a Paris hotel) with a small balcony, very comfortable bed and a nice bathroom. The cleanliness was excellent and the amenities sufficient (bath robe, slippers, beaty kit, shampoo, foam bath and body cream). The only problem I encountared was with the breakfast which was served by 7am but actually it was being set up then, so the hot food was actually cold at the time, and sometimes not enough yet. In general, the breakfast could do some improvement in regards of options. The location of the hotel, very close to the Opera is really convenient.

I have been visiting Paris for 30 years for work and have stayed in some of the very best hotels for work. Economics means my company selects mid-range hotels nowadays and I have had the misfortune to stay in some shockers.

This one was lovely though and well positioning for the Opera area. The staff were extremely welcoming. The room was nice and breakfast reasonable. What more could you want.

We stayed here for a full week. The location is excellent. 10 Minutes walk to Galleries Fayette. There is an excellent vegan restaurant right next door. We had breakfast there many mornings also the Hotel breakfast is not too bad. The staff were so helpful and speak excellent english. You have to take an elevator from the street level to go to the main lobby to check in. The rooms were not too bad for size and housekeeping was incredible. However there is so much dust in the room, i guess from the age of the hotel that if you peek under the bed you will see many dust bunnies. All in all, it was a pleasant stay at the Chess Hotel.

Dear Roger, All the team would like to join me to sincerely thank you for the great review concerning us and the fact that we are exceptional ! It's non only a real pleasure to welcome back our international guests, but a fantastic feeling when our efforts are appreciated. After 2 years of this terrible period, what an amazing moment. Following your review, I went to the room you occupied, and to be honest, couldn't find any dust bunnies under the bed : it might had prefered to go else where ? I am sincerely sorry if you found your room dusty but with its wooden floor (compare to carpet), even very light dust accumulated between daily cleanings seems to be more obvious. I hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you again in the next future. Pierre-Louis

We enjoyed our stay very much.
The hotel was very clean and comfortable with a friendly welcome and extremely helpful staff. Accommodation was good and well equipped. The hotel is in an excellent location in the city with easy access to the main attractions. All in all, it was good value for money. Will definitely consider returning.

We stayed for 3 nights in April with our 4 month-old daughter. The hotel was really well-placed close to The Metro for easy access from CDG. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Davide, and then the Manager, who went out of their way to get a room ready early for us owing to having a baby. The room itself was great, a lot bigger than we expected and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. All of the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Will certainly be coming back.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to friends looking to stay in this area of Paris. Even though the rooms are somewhat small, the decor and cleanliness make up for the room size.
The beds were comfortable, the rooms and bathrooms were clean and well looked after. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the breakfast was good too in terms of quality and quantity.

This is a very good hotel, located in an excellent place, close to everything anyone could want. The price is honest, not on the cheap side, but very good value for the money spent. Large rooms, very clean, warm staff, good service. One could hardly want more. Sure thing I'll saty at the Chess on my next trip visit to Paris.
