The apartment we got for our family of 5 was suprisingly spacious. Had a nice modern flooring n seems newly renovated. Bathroom was quite big. It was just a few mins walk from Gare Du Nord n a halal eatery (kebab shop). It has a tiny lift but gd enough for us even though we had to take turns getting into it with our luggage. The area is very lively and noisy with so many ambulances or fire engines driving by at night. We stayed for 2 nites so it was bearable.

Bad Hotel Scam hotel. This is the worst hotel in the whole world. I read many negative comments about that hotel but I made that stupid mistake to book that hotel. Now I warn other people that do not make the same mistake as I did. Don’t destroy your holydays by choosing this hotel and read my comments thoroughly.
I am travelling from many years and I in different continents and I had stayed in hundreds of hotel, many good and bad, and I never wrote a single bad comment about any hotel but Grand hotel magenta really forced me to write bad about them.
In the pictures looks hotel ok but it is cesspool in reality. Bad, dirty, stinky, rotten, all the synonyms you can imagine fit on that hotel. This so called hotel runs by a greedy family. Concept of customer service does not exist in there dictionary. The only thing that matters for them is money. Rude, smug, arrogant, selfish attitude and bad service, this is what you will experience from hotel Manager and his beloved receptionist son. Spending a night there was indeed a nightmare. When you have checked in than you are in there hands and they will treat you as a prisoner.
Many days before our arrival I send a message to hotel that I need a room with two separate beds. I took also the screen short of that message. When I arrived at the hotel with my daughter, it was 1 o’clock in the night. The reception guy said that they only had one room left with the double bed. I told him that I had sent a message to hotel many days before that I need a room with two separate beds. He said that they will change the room tomorrow.
I requested him that I cannot sleep with my daughter on one bed, at least give us an extra blanket which one of us can use for sleeping on floor, but receptionist said that they have no extra blankets/ pillows. Hotel is totally booked. Later I found out that many rooms were empty but they did not wanted to give to us.
The hotel elevator was not working and we had to carry our luggage by our self to the fourth floor.
There were complete darkness in the stairs and it was very difficult to see. Windows in the stairs was low and open, one wrong step and we could fall out several meters from these windows.
Hallway lights on the fourth floor were not working either and we had to find the room in the darkness. Hotel Building is really dirty and old especially from inside. The carpet was full of dust and too dirty. In that tiny cage we had to spend the night. Paris can get quit hot in the summer specially this summer, on 25 July 2019, a temperature of 42.6 °C (108.7 °F) was recorded in Paris, but this so called hotel had no proper arrangement for giving comfort in hot weather. No air condition. Only one tiny old tabel fan, and it was throwing hot air. I could not sleep all night and my daughter slept on hard floor without any mattress. This building is constructed in so bad way that there is no possibility of air circulation. It was like we were staying in a sauna barrel, or more correctly we were feeling that we were in a torture chamber. Wiring in bathroom was made of non professional person, which could easily kill a person by deadly electrical shock. Vanity unit and other furniture in room was broken and in very bad condition. See the pictures, which I have uploaded.
Living in such kind of building poses real threat to human health and I am sure, when the local authorities will inspect that building, they will immediately shut it down and will issue the notice for demolishing this building.
Next day the new guy was the son of hotels manager. He said to me, who promised you that we will give you room with two separated beds. You have to pay extra. Very rudely he came with that argument too that hotel had not received any message from me and money is non refundable.
I said that I want to talk with the manager of this hotel and he replied that hotel manager is very busy. When I insisted than he gave me the card of hotel and said I can contact manager on this nr. Immediately I called on that nr. From my cell phone, but the same guy who were standing in front of received the call, than he changed his statement, and said you cannot contact manager in this way. I called the booking agency in America and explained everything and told them also that I have the screen short of that message. After 30 minutes conversation between us, the agency called back to hotel and they tried hard to convince hotel that they were treating the customer unfair but it was useless.
Somehow I found out the manager is indeed his father and probably also the owner of that so called Hotel. I waited until manager came, and I tried to explain him the situation, but as sun as father. I decided to check out immediately. I paid for 5 days through booking agency, but I barely spend one night there and lost money for four days. I had also paid the local tax for five days in advance and hotel had not refunded me that either, but I don’t think so that they will pay that to authorities. In all this trouble we could not eat breakfast.
Hotel is situated in the Gare du Nord area of Paris which is home to criminal people. Street harassment and use of drugs on streets is normal sight.
I booked another hotel in other area, which have almost same price range but have very high standard, lot of facilities, air condition and very professional and cooperative staff.

So this was my first trip to Paris. Train journey from London to Gare du Nord was very easy. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk away. Facilities are basic - no food at all, small but functional lift. Room was on the small size but adequate. Toilet and shower rooms very small ( separate toilet and shower in room). Had to wait for room to be cleaned even though we were given the keys. 2nd day ran out of loo roll - went to reception and were given 'the last roll we have'. That said the location was good for the station, local restaurants and tourist attractions.

This was a one night stay for three of us in a shared room. I wanted somewhere close to Gare du Nord and in that respect this was excellent. The big problem is that the hotel is on a main road and the windows didn't close tightly which meant I hardly slept with the constant noise from the street below. It appeared that the room had been recently renovated but the downside was that there was a wrong smell of turpentine which made the room initially uncomfortable. The entrance to the hotel is a bit of a dump as are the stairs but the rooms are much better than the initial impression. The other thing that caused me to rate this hotel poorly was the cost which I found expensive for what this is. If you want a basic clean room near to Gare du Nord then this will be fine. If you want a bit more, look elsewhere.
