This hotel is nothing like it states on bookings. The owner speaks to you like your a child giving you numerous rules . It has no restraunt but insist you must not take any food or drinks of any kind to your room . It has no tear coffee making vasilities either . The rooms are so small and pokey and have only one PowerPoint that works under a small desk in the corner which you have to crawl under to use . The other one on the wall near the door is broken and dangerous falling out of wall . The one in bathroom only works for shavers which hair dryer doesn't work on . The bathroom is very mouldy and walls are dirty in bith rooms. Amenities I shampoo and 2 small soaps. One afternoon we were asked to go to the owners office as she Was too lazy to come to front desk to speak to us to complain there was some face foundation on the towel which she couldn't remove as she washes towels etc herself she was very upset . I don't seem to have that problem at my home towels come up spotless . The office staff were polite and helpful . The area was great and handy to metro restraunts etc. I would never stay at this hotel again . Rooms are size of postage stamp and dirty .

Hotel du Vieux Marais Hotel is in a good location close to transport, & resturants. We stayed 4 nights at this hotel & were greeted by Alfred the receptionist who stipulated a number of rules including not being allowed to bring any food or drink to our room. The room was very small just enough room for a bed & certainly no living area as advertised. The bathroom wasn't particularly clean with mold around the bath, the bottom of the shower curtain was a yellowish colour, the toilet roll holder was broken so that the roll fell on the floor. There was no kettel or fridge we couldn't make a hot drink. The owner who we dubbed "the head mistress" complained that we hadn't shut our door properly which was not the case, & returning to our room one day the receptionist refused to give us our key until we visited the Head Mistrees in her office to be given a lecture because of a stain on a towel. Her constant presents at the hotel was intimidating not only to us but to her staff who seemed to be constantly on edge. She inspected our room everyday while we were out & gave us a hard time when we returned over some petty issue, I've never been subjected to this sort of behaviour ever. The room was dusty & not particularly clean. There were no power points near the bed as advertised, the only working one was under a desk which we had to crawl under to get access, two others, one in a dusty cupboard didn't work the other was hanging off the wall & I wouldn't use for fear of electricution . We had to smuggle wine & snacks to our room every day & dispose of the empty bottles & wrappers outside for fear of being caught breaking this pathetic rule & possible eviction. For $260 per night, & would advise anyone to avoid this hotel with it's draconian rules & regulations, stay at one of the many other similar priced 3 star hotels in this facinating area. Steve Brennan stayed room in 14, 4th - 7th July.

We chose this a bit on spec, but it did the job very well. Very good location close to lots of interesting things to see and do in a lively part of the city. Room was clean and comfortable; staff were welcoming and attentive.

I am going to give you a fair and honest review of the Hotel du Vieux Marais. Our stay was 20 days and I chose this hotel for the location. It is in the middle of the former Jewish quarter and is now a bustling and busy area known for lovely boutiques, cafes, small charming markets and boulangeries. It is busy as it is in all of Paris. It is not dangerous or unsafe. It is a neighborhood with families and locals going along with their daily lives. We arrived before check in earlier in the morning and expected to only drop-off our luggage and wait until check in time. The front desk person was very friendly and actually showed us 3 rooms for us to choose from and we chose a room on the 5th floor overlooking the Rue de Platre. We actually only waited 20 minutes and remember, this is the morning, BEFORE check in time. We were so grateful as we were extremely jet lagged. Our room was immaculate and had everything we needed - reading lights above the bed to read at night! We had a closet and a small desk with 2 bed side tables with a wonderful view of the rooftops. The front desk people were kind, helpful and professional at all times and were a delight to interact with when we were coming or going. The true gem of our experience was the owner. She was a joy along with her son, who were always interested in our day and if we needed anything at all. The lobby is lovely and is perfect to sit and read by the window, and Christmas tree - which we appreciated since we were spending holidays away from home. As I mentioned, the hotel is very clean and very well run. It is a historical building, which dates back hundreds and hundreds of years, as are most of the buildings in this area and all of Paris. The hotel had a major renovation within the past few years and is modern in ways that are appreciated, but still retains the charm and history of a lovely Parisian building. I need to mention the cleaning staff is top notch and worked around us leaving for the day to make sure our room was made up perfectly and cleaned for us when we returned later in the day. They were professional, friendly and perfect. What else is there to say? This was our home away from home which was clean, safe and perfect for us. I have issues with the negative and positively untrue reviews about the Hotel du Vieux Marais. As for the individuals with the area being "unsafe and dangerous" - it is laughable. Anyone who travels needs to be street savvy and aware of their surroundings, but this is hardly the area where one would feel threatened. It is a "gay" neighborhood and if you have problems with that, then you need to move on to where everyone is just like you. I love the neighborhood for it's vibrancy. The Christmas lights are on everywhere and you can actually feel the joy in the air. I only hope I can come back to see our friends at Hotel du Vieux Marais. We will miss it!

It was the worst welcome I have ever had at a hotel. Firstly the lady told us we had booked a room too small and it wouldn’t be suitable because of my height but she didn’t have anything else available. My wife felt terrible as it was a gift for a significant birthday. The room turned out to be fine Secondly she told us off for booking through Booking.com and not calling direct to get it cheaper. She was quite aggressive. She talked all over you when you tried to speak and was generally very unpleasant. We walked through reception at another time and she was arguing with someone who was telling her to sshh and was obviously embarrassed by her

Worst hotel we stayed at on our 2 week trip in Europe. We stayed in hotels in a wide range of countries (Portugal, Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, UK) and this was the WORST HOTEL. Incredibly outdated and ludacris rules like NO OUTSIDE FOOD/DRINK ALLOWED, NO OUTSIDE GUESTS, and YOU MUST RETURN YOUR KEY if you leave the hotel. I did not book at hostel... I booked a hotel room! This hotel should not be called a hotel at all. Room is very very small, bed was HORRIBLY uncomfortable and EXTREMELY SMALL. Doorway was literally 2/3s the size it should be. I felt like we were locked in a box. Hotel staff was not friendly or accommodating. No fridge. No coffee anywhere at hotel. Owner suggested to get coffee somewhere on the street. No shower curtain (water ends up all over the bathroom). Water did not get hot at all! No on site food and beverage, and you can’t bring any in. Security of the rooms was questionable with the outdated locking system and fact we were required to leave our room key at the front desk whenever we left (are you serious)!! “Okay Dad... we will leave you the key.” DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT THE EXPERIENCE OF A HOSTEL. This is not a hotel. The list is too long to list all the issues. We felt UNSAFE here. Will NEVER return.

Well placed near the Hotel de Ville and the Marais and with reasonable prices but small rooms, it's a good base for travellers. The lounge/reception is nicely decorated but not large. However there was a warm welcome. My room was small and well decorated and the shower room good. Everything spotlessly clean. But the bed was not very much off the floor and whilst comfortable was difficult to exit. Breakfast is served in the room but is not cheap. However, overall a very useful place to stay.

Good location in Marais, handy for metro, shops, bars and restaurants. But hotel is more like a b&b, photos on the website give the impression of nicely presented 'lounge' type room in the small reception area, but that's all there is by way of facilities. Staff were nice enough although often only one person on duty and sometimes they were nowhere to be found. Rooms were small, and spartan, with signs of wear and tear. Shower head kept falling down in our bathroom, had to use some string to tie it in place, their were cracked tiles and peeling paint in the bathroom in a few places. There was a small shoebox sized safe in the wardrobe which would have been useful except it wasn't fixed down and could be easily picked up. Mentioning this to reception earned a shrug - 'who would steal a safe?'. None of these things are deal breakers, and the building is quite charming with a beautiful circular staircase, but the main issue was the noise. Walls are thin, and the room doors slam closed, so whenever anyone in a nearby room leaves or enters, the walls shake with a gunshot like sound, at all hours. That and the occasional late night singing in the street made for some of the worst nights sleep I've ever had. We checked out after 4 nights and abandoned our remaining 3 nights. We found a better hotel for the rest of our trip at only a little more cost. No enquiry from the receptionist as to if we had enjoyed our stay or why we were leaving early. Perhaps they are used to it. If you don't mind sleep deprivation this is one of the lower priced options, but I would suggest pay more and go elsewhere.

The hotel is a little bit old but still very nice and warm. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Also, the price is cheaper in Paris. If you will visit Paris, this place is safe and nice. The location is also good 😊
