This three star hotel is located right in the heart of the Marais. With its Louis XIII furniture and style, it has retained its 17th century character, the golden age of this district.Charm and originality blend with elegance, thanks to a subtle mix of wood panelling and wrought iron.Your stay in our hotel is sure to be a marvellous experience, because we know that when you travel, you hope to feel like you’re at home, if not even better.

This is a very nice hotel on a quiet and safe street in the Marias. 8 years ago my husband and I very much enjoyed our 10 night stay. When I was able to have a 3-day weekend while on business in Toulouse, I took the opportunity to enjoy Paris. I stayed again at Castex Hotel. I enjoyed it as much as I did 8 years ago. The check in and out were fast, friendly, and professional. My room was spotless. There was enough room to move around, and the bathroom was generous for Parisian standards. It was also spotless with a nice bathtub with ample hot water. This hotel is close to many restaurants and sights. It is also close to the metro. As I did with my husband years ago, I walked around the neighborhood and found the little bar that serves simple French working class food. This is a place where the locals go. The food was generous and flavorful. I ordered a glass of the house wine, which was also quite good. I won’t hesitate to return.

Check in- I arrived at 1400 hrs and to my dismay could not gain access to the hotel as the receptionist was away from his desk. I had to wait until he had finished doing what ever he was doing before he unlocked the electronic doors. Eventually the receptionist unlocked the doors and greeted me with croissant flakes still stuck to his lips and chin. On starting the check in procedure with the receptionist I was overwhelmed by a pungent and horrific smell of Body Odour. I quickly realised it was the receptionist (easily recognisable- pony tail hair style, never smiles/ eating lunch behind desk) I felt sick from the vile stench and wanted the check in to be over as quick as possible. This was not the case, the pony tailed receptionist spent all his time talking about my check out and how would I be getting to the airport. His sales pitch and pushy mannerism lead me to believe he was making some money on the side by poaching as many customers as possible for this service, (I was asked another 3 times from him over the course of 4 days if I wanted this service) Eventually I received my key card and made my way to my room which was on the 5th floor. The room- The room was very small, I barely had enough room to lay my suitcase open on the floor to unpack or lay out my shoes etc.. The bed was 2 singles pushed together and a mattress topper laid over them to create a double, unfortunately this was very uncomfortable as there was a zipper running down the middle of the beds. I like to feel the fresh air by having the windows open, but to my horror I could not do so without the smell of cigarette smoke and cannabis coming from the rooms below and entering my room. I asked for a change of room but was told the hotel was fully booked. Breakfast- Average Cleaners- Daily cleaning service, friendly cleaners Staff- Receptionists- 3 in total- 2 were very friendly and accommodating, the other 1 with the BO smell and pony tail was one of the rudest hotel staff I’ve met.

We stayed here during the transport strikes in Paris and it was a godsend. Excellent location in the Marais district. On Metro line 1, which has driverless trains so was still working. Great food places nearby and the Bastille markets Sundays and Thursdays. Rooms are very small, but manageable. Reasonably clean. On a side street so not too noisy. Staff were very helpful. Just be careful if you want to pay by cash as we found out they don’t like taking cash in the evenings. Just make sure you pay during the day if you want to use up your leftover Euros. Otherwise I would happily stay here again.

If you want a typical Parisian hotel in a safe, quiet location with good transport links Castex Hotel is for you. If you want the Holiday Inn / Hilton etc this hotel is not for you. The hotel is located less than a 5 minute walk from Bastille Metro (line 1 is fully automated so even on strike days at least one underground line to Bastille is working) we could walk to the Louvre in just over 30 minutes (or Lime scooter in about 10 minutes). If there aren’t strikes you can get a bus 5 minutes away straight to Gare Du Nord. There were boulangeries near by we’re open on Christmas Day (we didn’t eat in the hotel). There were reasonably priced cafes and restaurants nearby. The small supermarket is about 5 minutes walk away. The room had tea and coffee, a kettle, small fridge and safe. We had room number 3 which was an interconnecting room which was great for a bit extra space for our daughter. The only negatives are the hotel is a bit dated (not an issue) and the bathroom needs regrouting. Staff were friendly and helpful and we were able to leave our luggage on the last day. Our daughter left a hat in the room and when we returned to collect our luggage it was on top of our suitcases. We will be returning next Christmas.

This is the perfect boutique hotel for the seasoned traveler. However, if you require all the amenities a large chain hotel this is not for you. If you want a more authentic Paris stay the choose Hotel Castex. The building is old but the room was very dated as needed - new bathroom fixtures and loved the usb ports! I loved the exposed beams and the feel of an older building - my window opened and heating was by radiator. The bed linens were plush enough that I slept beautifully. It is tucked away on a quiet street a few blocks from the Bastille. There are several cafes and a Franprix right around the corner. As a US traveler I arrived early and the staff worked to get me in my room early. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My room was just perfect for a single person and being on the top floor gave me a nice view and was very quiet. I did not eat breakfast but it looked very substantial for a continental spread and reasonable at 13 euros. I would definitely stay here again.
