A few steps away from the Place des Vosges, the Picasso Museum, the Georges Pompidou Center and from the Notre-Dame, you will enjoy a charming residence typical of the Marais area, which has managed to preserve its character. Each of its 7 suites and 22 rooms, uniquely decorated, invites you to an intimate stay. It resides in an old private hotel from the 17th Century and buried in the heart of Pari, where it is easy to get lost among the old facades and flowered interior gardens.

Great location in Le Marias with easy walk to Hotel de Ville metro! Plenty of bars and restaurants near the Seine. Room was adequate with comfortable bed. However, as is often usual in Paris, no air conditioning in this hot summer heat!

Dear Thomas, Thank you for your comment about our hotel. Indeed our hotel is very good located. We don't have AC as it's an old building from the 17th century and we understand it's an issue for some person. We are really sorry about that but we hope to welcome you during winter then. Warm regards, All the Bretonnerie's team.

This place is a great place. Very accommodating and friendly. The location is great to walk to anywhere or take the Metro. Karen and Kate were great at the front desk and very helpful. There are great places to eat and shop right around the corner from the location

I had to cancel my booking at the very last minute, and while I was willing to pay for the first night, when I emailed the hotel, they replied that if they could book the room, I wouldn't have to pay. A few days later, I heard back that they had indeed booked the room, and I didn't owe them anything. This is above and beyond for a hotel, and I am sure I will stay there on my next trip to Paris. Thanks for being so kind!

The hotel is situated in a very vibrant part of Paris. Unfortunately we went when the temperature was very high and the hotel did not have air conditioning - opening the windows was an issue because the noise from outside the hotel was noisy until the early hours. Added to that, next door is a supermarket which is re-stocked every morning at 7am and the process is unbelievably noisy - so sleep was difficult. The staff were charming and helpful but I would not stay there again.

Honestly, I think our initial review would have been a three or four star experience, despite the slightly run-down interiors. The decor is tired but fine. I understand that sometimes what you're paying for is location, and I absolutely can't fault them for that: the hotel is perfectly situated to walk straight out and into the Marais.  We had room #1 on the first floor (the second for the Americans reading this review), which is not fabulous, but has an interesting lofted layout with a very tall window and its own second floor, where the main bed and bathroom were located. The real problem with a lofted room in France in the summer is that hot air rises, so even when it's cool on the lower level, it's very warm up top, and there is only a small, cheap fan provided to take care of this problem. There being no A/C, we had to leave the window open for sleeping. The first problem with this is visual; the curtain had to be open to let in the breeze, giving us an excellent view of the Monoprix sitting area from bed, and giving anyone in the Monoprix sitting area an excellent view of us in bed. This is unavoidable if you want cool air. But it wasn't until 6:35 am that I realized the true flaw of this room: the noise of the early morning Monoprix delivery on the cobblestones directly outside the window is calamitous. The window must be open, remember, for you to not swelter up on the second level where the bed is, so for two days in a row we were woken up by intense delivery noises that seemed to go on for a solid 45 minutes. I don't know how they rent this room out ever, it seems unconscionable to me. This is clearly a regular occurance. Other smaller complaints include the fact that this is the only shower I've ever taken where I banged my elbow on the ceiling while shampooing my hair. I'm 5'5". I would strongly advise tall folks to avoid room 1.  Fortunately (for him), the gentleman who checked us out didn't ask us how our stay was.

Dear WinningWanderer, Thank you for taking time to wrote a comment about our hotel. We are very sorry if you didn't enjoy your stay here. All our rooms are different and don't hesitate to tell us during your stay if you find this one too noisy we do our best to change your room and give you a room on the courtyard with a higher ceiling. Indeed we don't have AC in our hotel as it's an old building and the neighborhood don't allow it.. Once again we apologize for not having been able to meet your expectations. Have a lovely day.

The entire experience from reservation through departure was excellent. Kudos to the young women who run the front desk. The best possible first impression one could make. Helpful, courteous, and engaging, these ladies are just terrific. The hotel is calm and quiet, except for the streets ambience which can be loud and irritating. Beds are fine, pillows need updating badly, the Breakfast room is a delight, and the spread Madam puts out just great. Also a pleasant place to meet and chat with other travelers from all over the world. Conveniently located near the #1 Metro, which goes everywhere, and so walkable for many good restaurants and places of interest. Certainly would return to HB, great team, wonderful experience.

Rooms are cute, beds are comfortable, staff is helpful... BUT make sure you do NOT get put in room number 4. Smaller than the rest and directly above the supermarket which gets DAILY deliveries between 5-8 am. Impossible to sleep. They were nice enough to move us to a bigger and quite room.

Absolutely charming, old world hotel on a lovely street in Le Marais. Terrific neighborhood shops and restaurants, lots of students strolling around, and we were not surrounded by American tourists. We got by with just a little French, and people were friendly when we tried to speak. The turned staircase, 20 foot windows and damask wall coverings make the hotel feel like a step-back in time. Desk staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great too!
