The hotel was located in an ideal location where there was metro stations nearby to access central Paris.

We booked the room for three people, the room itself was fairly spacious and modern. For the price you pay it is much more modern and clean than what you would get in a central area of Paris city centre.

The only downside was that per arrival we were informed by a member a staff that breakfast was included when asked the question. But then we were shocked to find we had to cough up the fee of around 12 euros a day per person for the breakfast. Which I may add was not worth it at all. All that was available was a few pastries and different breads, for the price I paid I would expect something more substantial.

Overall a good hotel, staff were friendly and accommodating but I would highly recommend to avoid the breakfast not value for money.

Stayed with little one and brothers. The hotel is located in the 13 arrondissement, so away from the hustle and bustle and calm. Leafy suburb with shops and restaurants close by.

Reception were very friendly and we received a warm welcome. Breakfast is French, so nothing hot just pastries. The lounge is airy and spacious.

Room wise, small which is typically French. We had a shower and my brothers had a bath. Amenities were of decent quality and replaced regularly. The lift is small and can only take one or two people comfortably.

Good morning, Thank you for your comment. We are delighted to read that your stay went well. Just a small correction we are in the 17th and not in the 13 arrondissement :) Have a good day, Cécile

The hotel is situated in a very friendly and “safe” neighborhood. The entire staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is according to French standard very good - the waitress always ready to bring you extras. The reception is manned 24/7. The rooms are not that big - but you’re not supposed to spend much time in your hotel room when you’re visiting Paris anyway. The hotel and the rooms are clean - but it’s a old building, so don’t expect high tech rooms with brand new furnitures. It is one of our best value for money experiences according to hotels.

firstly the good things about this hotel is that it is a very nice area of the city. The rooms are more or less nice although a little small but we knew to expect this in Paris. The Bed however was very very comfortable especially the pillows. It liked the quirky designs in the corridors and room.

The downsides were having our room key taken away from us every time we left the hotel for the day . whilst we understood that this was a precaution this kind of mistrust and automatic disciplinary attitude towards guest's puzzled us and did not make for an completely welcoming atmosphere.

Whilst the reception and cleaning staff were friendly , I think there could just be a couple of small changes made that would make the whole experience seem a bit more generous and relaxed . small things like free use of umbrella in the lobby without instantly demanding a deposit for it , a free drink for the guest when they arrive perhaps? even if its just water with some lemon ( thats cheap to provide but feels welcoming ) nothing fancy . I would have loved to have much bigger and softer towels in the bathrooms rather then those small scrappy ones that you cant even wrap around you , and a conditioner as well as shampoo would have been nice . Finally maybe something hot to eat at breakfast time ( maybye eggs?) .

The one final point is that , unfortunately there was a fire alarm during our stay which was a mistake and could not be helped however , when we came down the fire exit stairway we had to go through what seemed to be a storage room which really wasn't clear especially in the dark and in our confused state it would have been quite dangerous had there been a real fire .

This is a really lovely hotel, with fantastic staff. We went in a big group to celebrate a friend's birthday and nothing was too much trouble. All our different questions and requests were dealt with efficiently and with kindness. We were made to feel very welcome.

The rooms are on the small side, but very comfortable, with lovely beds and pillows. The bathrooms are clean with plenty of towels and hot water. The continental breakfast was delicious, with croissants, pain au chocolat and choices of cold meat and cheese. Although there is not a restaurant or bar, you can buy hot and cold drinks from reception.

The location is very convenient, with two metro stations within ten minutes' walk. The area is quiet, with some lovely local shops tucked just behind the hotel. We felt perfectly safe popping out alone for a wander.

Overall, a great hotel and outstanding staff. Thank you so much for making our stay special.

The hotel had friendly staff, and it has a really nice and warm vibe. The interiors are not polished and the walls had some scruffs, but that gives it its chic look.
You would most likely get the very best from the place if travelling alone or as a couple, as the rooms are beyond cosy! The lift can just about carry two people

We reserved the privilege room with a cot as it was me and my husband travelling with our 2 year old daughter. The room was very modest in size. We had to fold our pram and just about managed to fit in our large suitcase. Navigating the room with the 3 of us was a bit of a challenge to say the least, as it is always awkward getting ready. That said, the room is clean and we have a lovely view of the overlooking street.

The biggest gripe with the place is the shower. You essentially need to hold it, as the way it is situated is not hanging overhead, but directly in front of you (which is weird). If you leave it that way, the water gets everywhere. We has to use a couple of towels to dry the floor which is a waste. The flow of the water won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. I personally didn’t mind it, but can see why it would annoy people as it feels like mist spray rather than a steady stream of water.

The breakfast was a usual affair in that it was continental with cold cuts. There were no hot foods such as porridge.

Location wise - it is a little out of central Paris, but you have two metros within walking distance which were Wagram and Pont Cardinet. A tip for parents - you are are better off going to Pont Cardinet as it is one of the few metros in Paris to have a lift and escalators.

As far a 3 star city hotels go, Hotel Gaston ticks all the boxes. And for the value that you are paying for a night, it is worth it. However for families - even when travelling with under 2, definitely order a triple room. Even if they say a double room can fit a cot, it is one mighty squeeze.

The Hotel Gaston is in the 17th Arrondissement of Paris, not far from 2 subway stations which can take you anywhere in Paris in short order. The hotel is part of an older building which has been updated with modern appointments. The rooms are small, as expected in this urban district but comfortable. The staff is very helpful and the breakfasts were wonderful. It is close enough to Montmartre and Sacre'Cour Basilica that we walked back one evening, seeing a beautiful and lively evening unfold on the eve of Spring.

Average hotel.
What you pay is what you get - you pay for 3 stars, you get 3.
Room was clean but tiny.
Shower head didn’t work so the shower didn’t hold.
Not enough water pressure
Sink drainage doesn’t work properly so water collected in the sink.
Staff ask to hold the room keys whilst you’re out (a bit off putting).
Staff aren’t as friendly as expected.
Location is quite good, not close to Paris attractions but close enough to the metro (10 min walk).
Seems like a safe area of Paris..
would I stay again? Probably not.

I was in Paris for a conference for a couple of days and needed a reasonably priced hotel for my stay. Hotel Gaston was within budget and the hotel was quite modern and very clean. The staff are so friendly that the hotel leaves you with an impression of old fashioned charm, they always remember their guests and make an effort if you need assistance. I would highly recommend staying here.

We booked via Secret Escapes and got a nice deal. The rooms are small but cute, daily room service is good, location is super safe, reception open 24 hrs, iron available on request and decent small breakfast. We personally had a good experience, specially keeping the price in mind. We were struggling to find a mid-range hotel in peak summer holidays and found this bargain deal on Secret Escapes.
