The hotel is pretty from the outside, nice lobby and good staff. The rooms are very tiny, you can’t even move around if you have a luggage, which is a bit unpleasant. Our room window was facing the wall where there was a plant with a big plastic bottle someone probably throw there before our stay… not nice to look at and I’m sure someone from the hotel could have noticed and removed it. The room is very dark with no ceiling light, just 3 table lamps which provide hardly any light especially in the evening. The bathroom is very very small and outdated. The towels were yellowish and hard to touch, probably burnt from ironing them. The ceiling is very low as well. We had a bathtub with shower head in the room and my boyfriend had a hard time standing to take a shower. When we arrived and saw the room we asked to change it but they said that’s what we paid for and they could only change it with an additional charge… not sure how I feel about their answer. I’m sure there are better ways of saying “This is what you paid for”. We left a “do not disturb sign” outside the door on the morning but our room was cleaned anyways - very odd. I spilled a tiny bit of water on the carpet once and tried to dry it with a cloth which to my surprise got very dirty. It’s good that they actually give you slippers since it seems they don’t clean the carpet very often. Overall, the staff is mostly nice and the location is very good and central but I think the hotel is overpriced for the service provided and the quality of the stay. There are better options in the area.

This place is horrible. They flat out lie to you about your rooms view. There are two rooms with an Eiffel Tower views and according to the horribly rude and scam artist manager they're always booked even though the keys sat in the cubby holes the entire time we were there. We asked and paid for birthday balloons to be set up for my friend. She taped three balloons to each nights stand put a mylar balloon that said "love" not happy birthday. The price was never an issue but her effort was. She then tells us breakfast is every morning. But never says it's 18€ per person. Some of us didn't even eat breakfast but charged us for every guest who stayed in the room for every day we were there. Unacceptable. They put a giant play pin in the bedroom for the baby that took up the entire floor and was so eager on giving us a horrible room that they forced us to share a bed instead of separating them. This place doesn't not care about their American guest. They flat out started speaking in French in front of us not knowing one of my girlfriends on the trip lived in France for 3 years and was fluent... even though according to them we were stupid trashy Americans. Do not stay here. They lie to you about the rooms, they also triple charged out card and are scammers. Wouldn't even recommend this hotel to someone I don't like.

This used to be my favorite hotel for 15 years. it has always been very cozy, small but with this unique French atmosphere. In 2022 this impression was totally ruined by the worst welcome i ever had. i never counted on a high-end service from a 4 star hotel, but at least some respect and politeness is a must, especially for travel industry. In short, my problems started in the morning when reception could not find a taxi for me for 35-40 minutes, thus i had a risk to be late to work. i knew about the problem with taxi in the mornings in Paris so came really in advance to be on time to work. I asked the reception to call a taxi and sat in the lobby to wait. in 10 minutes i asked for the status and the guy started to call to taxi company. He told me that 2 companies refused and switched to some other activity. When i asked to call other companies, he unwillingly started to do the impression of calling somewhere and told me to wait a bit more. In 10 more minutes i came and asked for the status, he again said that there was no taxi. In other words, the guy did absolutely nothing to find a taxi for me unless i came and asked the status. Finally, he proposed to go to the street and catch it by myself. As i was late to the office, i had to go by metro where i had a big risk to catch a COVID as this time the metro was really overcrowded. In the evening when i came back to the room, i realized it was not cleaned. i had no real problem with that but just wanted to ask the reasons to the reception. To my surprise, the receptionist stated to raise her voice saying that there was a "do not disturb" sign on the door and the cleaners came twice and saw it. This was not the truth at all, as both of us myself and my husband left for work, and we never used this table. When i told it to the reception she stated to get more and more emotional, almost shouting that the cleaning company had been working with them for more than 10 years and they never lied. In other words, she accused me in lying! On the way to dinner, when we passed by the reception i told them that i was waiting for the apology for inappropriate behavior and disrespect to their regular guest as well as a bottle of champagne and late check out on the next day as a compensation. The girl at the reception again started to raise her voice and tried to escape to the stuff room. i asked for the manager as this started to become unacceptable. she said that the manager was not there. Finally, a young lady came presenting herself as an owner. I asked for the proof, she expressed her utmost dissatisfaction with this request of mine but showed something in her mobile saying that this was the last name of the hotel owner which is actually her last name as well. Then she started to accuse me in the wrong attitude toward the stuff, as well as in the fact that i asked her for a proof of her being the owner. she repeated the story about the cleaning company coming 2 times and again said that they never lied to them indirectly accusing me in lying! She tried her best to switch to finding faults with me from the real problem, neglecting the fact that the stuff of any hotel should be first polite and provide the service, not shouting or accusing. When i mentioned the morning story with the taxi, she said that there was a strike. OK but why on earth the reception guy did not tell it to me from the very beginning making me wait for 35 minutes when i had no choice anyway and he knew it? Then this young lady told us that she would clean the room by herself. In other words, even if she is really the owner, i can understand why the hotel is becoming worth and worth. if the owner does not know what guest relations mean and she does not know how to organize the hotel business so that she has to clean the rooms herself, this is a bad manager. And it is a pity as the hotel used to be really a good one for a 4 star accommodation. Worthwhile mentioning that i stayed there for work and my booking was paid by the company - isn't stupid for the owner to behave impolitely with her corporate guest, it is obvious that i will share my bad experience with all my colleagues and the hotel will lose not just myself but hundreds of potential guests! soooo unprofessional..... By the way she was also a bad cleaner as the cleaning of the room was just in making the bed and that was it. the empty bottles from water were still not thrown away. Anyway, when we came back i realized that i could not feel myself comfortable in that hotel any longer and we had to change the hotel that very night. Never ever i will come back to this hotel that used to be so much loved by me in the past. The only two people who were still very friendly and helpful (and whom i remember from my before-covid stays) are Abz from the reception and Yola at the breakfast. And just to add a bit in terms of the changes - the rooms interior has been changed from a cozy province style finishings to dull grey curtains, making the tiny room looking very gloomy and prison-like. The breakfast has become very poor even for a 4 start hotel, the towels are not fresh and the hotel in general obviously requires renovation (And change of the management or owners!). such a pity, but i am still very grateful for the unprofessional hotel management for this unpolite welcome as this was a good kick to me to look for something better which our corporate agency managed to find very quickly. so that my last night in Paris was a really great compensation for that bad experience.

The pre stay service was wonderful and filled me with anticipation. However, the room was pretty average (but clean). There was 1 gentleman on reception who was excellent and so helpful and I hope he knows who he is (sadly I did not get his name). On Marathon day I left my room at 08.30 and did not return until 16.00 and the room was still unserviced, at which point I put on the Do Not Disturb sign to soak in the bath. When asking about this lack of service I was told the maid came but did not service the room because of the sign. When asking for a bottle of water, which I assume they would have left at the time of service I was given one and then later changed for it at check out. Not what I would have expected.

Response from Madeleine Plaza, Service clients/Réception at Hotel Madeleine Plaza
Responded May 1, 2022
Dear Madam, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. This feedback helps us to improve on a daily basis. Indeed, it happens that housekeeping service is somewhat late when the hotel is full. A free bottle of water is placed in the room only on the day of check-in, and the presence of the do not disturb sign formally prevents us from entering the room. We will pass on your nice comment to the receptionnist. Best regards

We will definitely stay here again! The only area of improvement is breakfast related. Both the little croissants {plain and chocolate} are not up to Paris standards because they have a chewy center. The scrambled eggs are excellent, but the 'bacon' is barely cooked, floppy and fatty. Everything else at breakfast time is great.
