The Madison Hotel, in the Latin Quarter of Saint Germain-des-Pres, is a boutique hotel in a chic, contemporary style. This delightful hotel with its 50 rooms and suites is located on the Left Bank opposite the church of Saint-Germain-des-Pres and a mere stone's throw from the Seine, the Louvre and the Musee d’Orsay, and the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. The hotel rubs shoulders on the Boulevard Saint Germain with the Cafe de Flore and the Cafe de 2 Magots, at the heart of a quarter famed for its cafes, art galleries, museums, antique dealers and designer fashion boutiques. The Madison Hotel is also firmly at the heart of literary Paris... Albert Camus spent some time at the hotel in the spring of 1940, and it was here that he completed his existentialist novel "L'Etranger" (The Outsider). Perhaps his spirit still hovers somewhere...

Neighborhood
Saint-Germain-des-Prés
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.

After some desperate research on Paris hotels & "where to stay" for three nights in Paris, this wonderful boutique (small, quaint) hotel in St Germain Des Pres popped up with excellent reviews, especially regarding location. At this time of year, the Madison is not for those on a serious budget - rooms are expensive in Paris in early July and I had to just get over it. As suggested by other travelers in their reviews, we (mother & daughter) opted for a larger room (Deluxe with "City View") - a definite splurge but worth it with our extra luggage (college-aged daughter just finished study-abroad in Italy.) We skipped the expensive hotel breakfasts and headed out to nearby cafes each morning, sitting outside people watching and organizing our day. I booked our stay by contacting the hotel directly, asking if they could match a price I found online. "Lily" at the front desk was very helpful despite their being very busy at the time I called and (almost) matched my price. Upon arrival I introduced myself and Lily told us she had chosen and readied our room personally - a perk in my opinion of booking directly. We found the front desk staff to be very helpful - dealing with luggage and finding a taxi upon our departure. We were very, very pleased with this hotel & staff, our stay, and the fabulous location.

Just left after 5 magical days in the City of Light. My 4th trip to Paris but 1st visit to the Madison. It did not disappoint! My daughter’s first trip for 16th birthday. From check-in with our room ready at 9:00 am to holding our luggage for late check-out, it was perfect. The concierge was extremely helpful and so friendly. Breakfast was great and we loved our room with twinkling stars in the ceiling. Yes, rooms are small but that is Paris. Room 75 is perfect with a view of Saint-Germain church and if you lean out a bit, a view of the Eiffel Tower. Not one thing I would change about this hotel choice. PERFECT!!!!
