Glorious, classic hotel set in a peaceful, salubrious location. Ideal for exploring all of Paris, although La tour Eiffel proved to be a bit of a hike. The rooms are elegant, stylish and lovely with double french windows, classic/antique features and spotless bathrooms. Les nuits des thes, a fab little Boulangerie just around the corner, is the ideal place to...

Stayed here for two nights in January. Superb little hotel with an eye on detail. Small but very comfortable bedroom. Reception friendly and helpful and ready to prepare boiling water for herbal tea. Great location and quiet.

Excellent value and location. Very helpful and friendly staff. Stayed there for a week at half the rate posted in the room. Thanks, Tripadvisor. Room small (about 12 sqm) -- as you better expect in Paris -- but well equipped (tv, safety box, and all) and designed (unfortunately i discovered that the writing desk could be opened only on the...

A small room as expected, but very nicely setup and very clean. The bed was really comfortable. Everyone at the desk spoke very good english and were incredibly helpful with directions and booking a shuttle back to the airport at a very early hour. Walking distance to the Louvre and d'Orsay.

I visit Paris often and have tried many hotels in the city, but this one's my favorite! Friendly, helpful staff and the rooms are modern, tastefully decorated, clean and very comfortable. Perfectly situated on a quiet street with local restaurants, cafes, and shops. Can't beat having La Duree just down the street! We walked everywhere from here: St. Germain, Latin...

My husband and I and two of our friends spent 3 nights in Paris prior to joining our river boat cruise in Antwerp. After much research, we decided on this hotel and we are all so very glad we did. The location could not be better; a five minute walk to the Seine, 10 minutes to the D'Orsay and right...

I stayed here for two nights, basically on a business trip. Still, the location is wonderful, you can walk to many nice places, cross the Seine to the Louvre in just five minutes. Rooms are very nicely arranged and spacious enough, staff is very friendly. You get a french-style breakfast, but can order eggs to it.

Great location, friendly staff, comfortably-sized rooms, value for money boutique hotel. Easy to cross over to the right bank and yet you don't feel that you are surrounded by tourists. You see more locals in the area which is great. The only areas for improvement that time are: a) I wish the air coming out of the air-conditioner were stronger...

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hotel de l’Université is a former Benedictine convent and has retained many period features while adapting to the needs of 21st century society. The reception area is vast and delightful with its ancient beams. It is an immediate illustration of the style and appeal of this quality establishment. The Hotel de l’Université only has 27 bedrooms, allowing the staff to focus on an individualized care. Each room has its own decor and character, many ornate with ageless beams, but all benefiting from tall traditional Parisian windows allowing daylight to flood in. All the rooms have been renovated in 2011 and include air-conditioning, mini-bar, safety deposit box and a free Wi-Fi connection. A laundry service is available upon request. The rooms on the top floor overlook the rooftops of Paris and some have the rare bonus of a private terrace. The Hotel de l’Université is not a place to stay for the night. It is a journey into the history and style of Parisian life, a chance to experience life as one of the locals and bring back unforgettable memories. ... more   less
