This is my favorite place to stay in Paris. The hotel is very convenient and the rooms have a boutique feel to them. The staff are very helpful but low-key, which is very much appreciated. Bike rental station is close by and there are small cafes nearby. The street is also a very quiet section.

We stayed at this hotel on the recommendation of a relative, and we were not disappointed. The hotel is perfectly situated in Paris. We could easily walk to most touristy sites, or just as easily catch the Metro or a cab. The hotel accommodations were clean and comfortable. The front staff, especially Michel, is phenomenal. They greeted us warmly from... More

Our room was large and well appointed, with a king-sized bed, round table, desk, comfortable chairs and good lighting. It faced the street and got lots of natural light. The bathroom was modern and highly functional. The staff, particularly the gentleman who mans the front desk during the day, was cordial and helpful. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring... I stayed here for 3 nights prior to heading north. From the first moment we walked in the door the staff could not be more friendly or helpful. We were assisted with tickets to various museums and shows. The lift is a little slow so take to the stairs. Rooms are good size and very clean with modern bathrooms. Location... More

We were looking for a nice hotel in Paris and this hotel had appeared to have everything we were looking for: good rating, price and location. After staying there for two nights we can confirm that this is a wonderful hotel. The rooms are clean and large enough. Perfect location and fantastic staff, all very helpful and considerate. Highly recommended.

This is not a fancy, all-the-bells-and-whistles hotel. It is small, modest, and lovely. The staff are all supremely helpful and friendly. Rooms are small (mine was, at least) and the amenities are not extensive -- and I couldn't have cared in the least. I was able to stay in the middle of a great neighborhood, on a quiet street, just... More

Spot on, couldn't fault the hotel. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Location of the hotel is great too. Rooms are huge and just been done up. Cost was very well priced compared to most of Paris. Would stay here again with out a doubt.

The location of Hotel de l'Universite is excellent for the immediate attractions of Saint Germain, the Louvre across the Seine and a short walk to the Metro for farther afield trips. The room we stayed in was designed with classic French elegance and the hotel stairs and tiny lift offer great character. The concierge, Michel, was extremely helpful and a... More

Hotel de l'Universite is great value. We stayed there in May 2016. We requested and received the most quiet room possible (#302?). It was on a floor with no other rooms. You simply walk down a few stairs from the next floor up. It faced the courtyard. The room had a small vestibule before getting into the room. The room... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hotel de l’Université is a former Benedictine convent and has retained many period features while adapting to the needs of 21st century society. The reception area is vast and delightful with its ancient beams. It is an immediate illustration of the style and appeal of this quality establishment. The Hotel de l’Université only has 27 bedrooms, allowing the staff to focus on an individualized care. Each room has its own decor and character, many ornate with ageless beams, but all benefiting from tall traditional Parisian windows allowing daylight to flood in. All the rooms have been renovated in 2011 and include air-conditioning, mini-bar, safety deposit box and a free Wi-Fi connection. A laundry service is available upon request. The rooms on the top floor overlook the rooftops of Paris and some have the rare bonus of a private terrace. The Hotel de l’Université is not a place to stay for the night. It is a journey into the history and style of Parisian life, a chance to experience life as one of the locals and bring back unforgettable memories. ... more   less
