Hotel's Favorite
We'd booked a short hop over to Paris about 9 months ago before Covid-19 was even known and luckily air corridors opened up to allow us to go to Paris just in time. Even luckier, our original accommodation we'd booked at a different hotel cancelled just before our trip, which gave us an opportunity to stay at the Hilton Paris Opera (I'd always wanted to stay here!). The hotel had been closed I think for about 6 months during the pandemic and opened up about a week before our stay. We booked an executive room, even though I knew from the website and after calling the hotel that the executive lounge was not operating at the moment because of the restrictions in place. Arriving at the hotel there are notices to wear a face mask inside, and as you come in there's a foot pedal operated hand sanitiser station. We were really very early and were going to ask to leave our bags at the hotel until check-in time, but our room was ready which was a super bonus. We had a late afternoon flight on our departure so checked the evening before if late checkout was possible and that was fine with the hotel too. At check-in the reception explained about the executive lounge being closed, but that we could instead have a soft drink during the day and an alcoholic drink in the evening (between 5.30pm and 7.30pm) in the gorgeous main restaurant area, which personally I think is a much more relaxed atmosphere than an executive lounge. We spent so much time exploring Paris that we only just made it toward the end of the happy hour for our two complimentary drinks which came with some bowls of snacks (pretzels, crisps, nuts). I though I'd be disappointed not having a full executive lounge experience, but really this for me was just as special given that travel restrictions had only just been lifted. All the hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, but especially the staff running the bar were brilliant, and they were working so hard...and with masks on too. The only thing I'd perhaps suggest to the hotel is to provide executive room and higher guests with drink vouchers for the bar to make it easier to order your complimentary drinks (otherwise it's having to explain that you'd like your complimentary drinks because you're in an executive room and you're not ordering to charge to the room). The room we had was facing the front of the hotel which I can recommend for the view. The quirky clock tower above McDonald's a cross from the hotel is interesting and you can do a bit of people watching in the street below. It wasn't that noisy with the window open, and with the windows closed it was nice and quiet for getting to sleep. Speaking of which, the bed was very comfortable and we both slept solidly both nights. In the room the minibar fridge was empty due to the restrictions, but I actually prefer that. There are also no glasses/cups or coffee/tea in the room. You need to ask at the bar and they have prepared parcels with disposable coffee cups and the coffee/tea/sugar for your room. We were only there 2 days so the one package was enough for us but I'd imaging if you run out then just go get another sealed bag from the bar downstairs. The room itself was spotlessly clean. The door is sealed to make sure no one has been in the room since they cleaned and sanitised the room before you access the room. Housekeeping service was only on request which was fine for our short stay and it was nice to know no-one would be coming into the room. The remote had a paper seal over it to show it had been cleaned properly. Breakfast was in the downstairs breakfast room looking out onto the street in front of the hotel. All food and drinks are brought to your table and there is a menu of a selection of breakfast plates to choose from with your choice of eggs plus fruit salad, yoghurt, croissants, mini baguettes and chocolate pastries. Although there are 4 set breakfast plates (2 farmhouse style meat/bacon ones, 1 vegetarian and 1 smoked salmon) you can pick and mix whatever elements from those you fancy for your own breakfast plate. And the portion size was generous. We really liked the sealed bags of bamboo cutlery at breakfast...a really nice touch. There is normal cutlery too. All staff were always wearing face masks throughout the hotel. Guests can take off masks while eating or drinking, but otherwise wear masks everywhere in the hotel (except in your room). Location for the hotel is really good, close to train and metro stations. From the airport to the hotel we close to take the Roissybus which drops you off about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We had almost no luggage so that was a good option for us. Heading back to the airport we took an Uber because the ticket machine by the Roissybus Opera stop was broken. There is a nice little shopping centre (Passage du Havre) right by the hotel and Galleries Lafayette and Printemps department stores are literally just around the corner. Printemps is great for a glass of champagne on the terrace with lovely views over the city, or for lunch or dinner on the top floor (they have a nice selection for takeaway dining too). There's also a Monoprix supermarket just behind the Passage du Havre if you're after a bottle of wine or snacks. The side street here (Rue de Caumartin) looks quite popular for outdoor cafe style eating options, but there are loads of choices right on the doorstep of the hotel. All in all we had a great time in Paris and can only thank all the staff at the hotel for making every effort to make us feel comfortable and welcome, especially in these strange times. PS, Paris itself is very organised in terms wearing of masks in shops for everyone including staff and hand sanitiser at every single shop entrance with someone there making sure masks are on and you've sanitised your hands before going inside the shop...well done Paris, if only London was as organised and consistent. I wouldn't hesitate to return to Paris, and I know exactly which hotel I'd choose again!

We had a great time but experiences a few issues that management should address - Hsk service on first day no new towels, coffee or cups. I get Covid changed a lot but not even 2 glasses, pen nor paper? Seems cost cutting not Covid. Extended 2 nights, had to move rooms which was inconvenient but the room was nice, thank you. Lobby is gorgeous but feels dead and quiet - turn up the music for ambience. TV hard to operate. Power outage. It happens. The good - staff are friendly, helpful, kind - Alice, Charlotte, the other receptionists and bell. Bed is amazing, slept so well, the room and the bathroom were wonderful. Got an upgrade and a free welcome drink. Staff assisted with all and when the masks go it will be even better as an experience. The location is great and if they improve the above we might stay again.

I still remember that wonderful feeling of discovery in the historic lobby of the Hilton Paris Opera. Looking back at photos of 2017, yes, the room was very small for executive class, & Happy Hour was so crowded it wasn't so happy, those are petty things. What I really remember is jet lag @ 3:30 am, going to the lobby where hauntingly beautiful music was playing & no one there. I remarked to the front staff that too bad there wasn't any coffee, they suggested room service, so my husband & I had our most memorable cups of coffee surrounded by the magnificent crystal chandeliers, arched doorways with statues, fresh flowers & artwork all to ourselves. What A Memory!
