Canal Saint-Martin
The tree-lined Canal Saint-Martin is the focal point of one of the most romantic and hip areas of Paris. Watch boats travel along the canal while lovers and friends take in the atmosphere from the banks or the bridges. Evenings see hoards fill the embankments to drink wine and enjoy good company. The colder days lead people to hipster bars, cozy restaurants, and concert spaces. Those who are more adventurous may explore hidden gems down nearby streets, from local bars to futuristic architecture. With its enriching mix of people of all ages and backgrounds, this neighborhood has a dynamic, inspiring vibe.

Stayed for 1 week in November 2018. Very happy, no frills but bathroom and beds were both OK. Also near metro station so good location. We were charged tax at check in but overall more than satisfied. Floor was dirty but room more than ok. Happy n good for budget travelers.

Everything was dirty, scruffy, room full of bugs (insects from the range of puddles, paduschi), without parking, although at reservation I was assured that the hotel has parking, I slept dressed in fear of taking any skin disease, without a cover of the perineum, I never come to this hotel again.

I’ve stayed in some flea pits in Paris and Paris is a disgusting and filthy city, but this is the worst. I won’t bore with the minor details, but the pillows didn’t even have pillow cases. Unhygienic at worst. Avoid like the plague because that’s what you’ll probably leave with... The picture is the main stairwell. Looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for months.

Last minute .com-does it do what it says on the tin? My wife and I decided to book a last-minute city break to Paris. A long-held ambition for my wife who loves the history of the French revolution, the romance of the city, the spirit of the people who rose up with the words Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité. I pen this in the hope of starting a revolution for all those weary travellers who have gone before me with dreams of an escape to Paris, hoping to be imbued with the romance of such an historical city. The euro star was a pleasant experience which created an expectation that the rest of our sojourn would equally follow suit. Having arrived early at hotel hibiscus we were not too alarmed to see the overall ennuyeux façade of the décor, after all it surely would provide the basic requisites of a 2-star establishment? Mon Dieu! On entering the room, the window shutter would not latch ensuring that the temperature in the room was somewhere in the region of below freezing. Despite several attempts it was clear that the window would not latch, and my wife called for assistance from receptionist. A rather taciturn man entered with a screw driver and managed to get the window to latch, however as this was not secure, due to its age and visible mould build up, the winds outside hammered the shutter and was clearly an inadequate measure in blocking the elements! The power socket was found to be literally hanging out of the wall. It was only in place due to someone recently bodging it together with Polyfilla, some of which fell out onto the filthy floor every time one put in or took out a plug! It also received an equally cursory attention with the repair man stating that the socket worked, but most worrying was the fact that he did not acknowledge the obvious - health and safety hazard in the extreme! Turning our attention to the shower room this revealed that there was a leak with water on the floor which included the hair of previous occupants!! Cleanliness and standards obviously not an issue in this “hotel.” The sink revealed fresh blood splatters!! On attempting to close the door to eliminate the incessant drips from the malfunctioning shower we discovered the bathroom door would not even shut as it had been severely damaged and swollen by dampness and water!! When confronted on these issues minimal concern was expressed by two members of staff present and they were very dismissive of our concern or plight. At this point my wife who is well read in the genre of crime fiction uttered the words “unspeakable things have happened in this room!”. In an attempt to rescue the situation and with stoicism, I attempted to reassure her that at least the linen on the bed was clean. However, looking down the large blood stains on the divan beleaguered my words! Peeling back the linen revealed a mattress so stained that an alternative light source would not be necessary! I knew then that we had reached our Waterloo! There was no choice but to contact last minute.com to rescue the situation. Unfortunately, as described by many reviewers the call wait was inordinately long. The result was we were to be charged for the room and an attempt was made to secure alternative accommodation but and this was reiterated by last minute .com, we were to be charged for additional costs. Despite our inconvenience and ruined holiday and celebration, it appeared we would have to move ourselves across town and pay an additional fee for the privilege!? Bon Voyage!
