The property itself is an older building and is in need of updates. The staff is ok with the exception of one concierge. Cons: insects, our bedroom had ants, a hard insect treat for but still. We had to ask 3 times to resolve. No updated television and movie ordering was not functional. Attention to detail, asked for a dinner reservation and was ignored by the “concierge” and had to re ask a new concierge second day. Pros: breakfast/room service staff was great and very cheerful. Good location just off Champs Elysee Bottom line decent but nowhere near a 5 star property that’s is starting to show her age and definitely not kid friendly.

We were celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary in Paris and chose a to reserve a Corner Suite at Hotel Balzac - getting a great advance price on Booking.com for just £790 for two nights. Externally a 5 or 6 storey property in classic Parisienne style occupying a corner location at Rue Lord Byron, just a minute's walk from the Champs Elysees. We were greeted at the curb-side from our Limo by a footman and our cases taken to the breathtakingly elegant lobby. We were efficiently checked-in and shown to our Suite (#306 on the third floor). As we stepped into our suite - we were in our living room. It was beautiful. Ornate wooden panelling, central chandelier, elegant lamps dripping with crystal pendants, two reproduction gilded armchairs, comfortable sofa with scatter cushions, reproduction dining table with 3 matching gilded chairs, two huge windows with ornate curtain swags, with one of windows having a view, over rooftops, to the top of the Eiffel Tower. There was a flat-screen TV in an armoire, a minibar, marble coffee tables and a Nespresso coffee machine. I had e-mailed ahead of our stay to advise that we were celebrating a special occasion and we were welcomed in our suite with a complimentary bottle of Pommery Champagne on ice, macarons, mineral water and little pastries. A door from the living room took us to the bedroom. Again beautifully furnished with gilded reproduction furnishings, desk, two bedside tables each of which was monogrammed 'HB' and a huge king-size bed with ornate half-tester canopy, further TV and telephone. The huge window was beautifully draped and swagged in the same style as the living room. A door led from the bedroom to a small dressing-room, with window view to the Eiffel Tower, ample hanging space, hairdryer, digital wall-safe and complimentary grooming items. A second door led from the bedroom into a well appointed bathroom with bath-tub, ornate silver basin, separate walk-in shower cubicle, wc and telephone. There was a good array of complimentary toiletries, plenty of towels, quality bathrobes and slippers. We asked for an iron and ironing board, which were promptly delivered to our suite, although the hotel also offers pressing and laundry services. Each room within the suite a was air-conditioned and although a warm summer evening outside, sleep quality was amazingly good and we had breakfast served in our living room as an alternative to the buffet offer in the restaurant. Housekeeping throughout was immaculate and all staff genuinely pleasant and engaging. The hotel is set around 150 metres up a side street from the Champs Elysees with its offer of high-end shops and also pavement cafes. The nearest Metro station is George V, on the Champs Elysees, which is a 3 minute walk. That Metro station has a direct line to Louvre-Rivoli station (for the Louvre, Rive Gauche and Notre Dame Cathedral) as well as connecting lines to all Paris sights. The Arc de Triomphe is a 5 minute walk. Reception will call you a taxi, but Uber is readily available, offering both standard cars (Uber X) and premium vehicles (Berline) to get you around the city quickly and easily. We would HIGHLY recommend the Hotel Balzac for its opulent luxury, boutique hotel ambience, engaging customer care and very central location. We will certainly be staying again on our next trip to Paris !

Hotel Balzac is definitely not a 5-star hotel, the rooms are in very poor condition and neglected, the showers are uncomfortable and wet the entire bathroom, the beds are not comfortable at all, one of the front desk agents was super rude and not nice At all, I definitely do not recommend this hotel. I feel cheated for having paid what I paid for this hotel thinking that it had other conditions.

We had stayed in this hotel 21 years ago and found it to be a fine hotel. Unfortunately, nothing has changed in the last 20 years except for the staff who are friendly but making a lot of excuses for a product that is clearly not at "la hauteur" of the price. We rented a junior suite and had trouble finding enough placed to put our luggage, hard to find plugs to charge your devices, a Wifi system that kept going out and at best was slower than 10 year old technology, five hangers in the closet, hard pillows (they do have down if you ask), and a run down hotel. To the staff's credit, they tell you at check in that the hotel will undergo a major renovation - to that end the spa and gym are closed. I was too tired at check out to haggle but after hearing all their excuses, I felt like the classy thing to have done especially with the Wifi problems would have been to offer some discount on the room. But no - the excuses were only words, no deeds. When you have an experience like that it is really hard to believe that management/ownership really care. If they can charge a premium price because the market will bear it, well I guess they feel entitled to do it. Unfortunately, memories are long and it is unlikely that we would return to this hotel. Sure it has a nice location if you want to be close to the Champs Elysees but there frankly are much more interesting parts of Paris to choose from. I am 50% French and have spent a ton of time in Paris but this experience hasn't got me saying I'll even try the remodeled hotel. They had an opportunity to make it right with the price, and they failed.

First the Good: - Great, central location just of Champs Elysee, across the LV store. - Friendly staff throughout our stay. Unfortunately, this is where the Good ends: The Bad: - This is the first time I received a Queen-sized bed in a 5-star hotel featuring 2 single mattresses, so that the middle gap always hindered comfortable sleep. Super disappointing! - The pillows are hard and foam filled (requests to change them please to feather pillows, as me neck started hurting after the first night, yielded us exactly 1 (!) small pillow the day after) - Not even a single bottle of water is provided in the room, as typical for 5-star properties (and replenished each day with the housekeeping servcice, forcing you to revert to the mini-bar, which has - of course - plenty supply) - If you happen to not have breakfast included, you may purchase it at 38 Euro / Person. At over USD 80 / couple for a miniature set up in the morning, the breakfast is more money trap than morning refreshment. Overall, despite the nice photos on booking.com and elsewhere suggesting a French charme, this hotel has a very hard time covering up that it is simply overdue for renovation. Scuffed corners and broken elevator mirrors just do not go on par with 5-star properties in the city. The only think 5-star here is the location - and the price. PS: Did I mention the ridiculously small rooms? Or the never working air conditioning? Make this hotel a 4-star, reduce the price by 40% and you could call it adequate.

There aren't many place I would call "shameful", - but the Hotel Balzac certainly belongs to that sort of category. To be very clear, - this review is solely decided to the owner who is a lousy, greedy and nasty person, - asking astronomers prices, not renovating the property since years, squeezing rooms on each level making it is super small, WIFI does not work, the elevator is out of ORDER several times - I do very feel sorry al the stuff who have to put up with this none-sense. I wonder rho one can put top with this is B.S.

We booked three rooms during our vacation here and they were very clean. The air conditioning did not work so you have to open the windows which then adds noise. Apart from that, the staff was friendly and were very helpful. The location is excellent, and its walking distance to most attractions in Paris.

Beware a lot of street noise. Chez Ly night club across the street very loud until 3:30 am . Rooms very warm and although hotel advises on website they have air conditioning it was not available during our stay We left money in luggage which was missing from the room and were told our money should be locked in safe. Yes I agree however I do expect to be able to leave money tucked in my luggage in a 5* hotel and not have it go missing. When in the middle of checking out, we were abruptly interrupted by another French guest who wanted to check out and the front desk staff helped this person check out leaving us hanging . Odd Staff indifferent and not accommodating. Their mantra seems to be everything is on the guest I.e. their mistake . To phone front desk you need phone the hotel directly from an outside line. Felt like their goal to avoid guests.
