We were celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary in Paris and chose a to reserve a Corner Suite at Hotel Balzac - getting a great advance price on Booking.com for just £790 for two nights. Externally a 5 or 6 storey property in classic Parisienne style occupying a corner location at Rue Lord Byron, just a minute's walk from the Champs Elysees. We were greeted at the curb-side from our Limo by a footman and our cases taken to the breathtakingly elegant lobby. We were efficiently checked-in and shown to our Suite (#306 on the third floor). As we stepped into our suite - we were in our living room. It was beautiful. Ornate wooden panelling, central chandelier, elegant lamps dripping with crystal pendants, two reproduction gilded armchairs, comfortable sofa with scatter cushions, reproduction dining table with 3 matching gilded chairs, two huge windows with ornate curtain swags, with one of windows having a view, over rooftops, to the top of the Eiffel Tower. There was a flat-screen TV in an armoire, a minibar, marble coffee tables and a Nespresso coffee machine. I had e-mailed ahead of our stay to advise that we were celebrating a special occasion and we were welcomed in our suite with a complimentary bottle of Pommery Champagne on ice, macarons, mineral water and little pastries. A door from the living room took us to the bedroom. Again beautifully furnished with gilded reproduction furnishings, desk, two bedside tables each of which was monogrammed 'HB' and a huge king-size bed with ornate half-tester canopy, further TV and telephone. The huge window was beautifully draped and swagged in the same style as the living room. A door led from the bedroom to a small dressing-room, with window view to the Eiffel Tower, ample hanging space, hairdryer, digital wall-safe and complimentary grooming items. A second door led from the bedroom into a well appointed bathroom with bath-tub, ornate silver basin, separate walk-in shower cubicle, wc and telephone. There was a good array of complimentary toiletries, plenty of towels, quality bathrobes and slippers. We asked for an iron and ironing board, which were promptly delivered to our suite, although the hotel also offers pressing and laundry services. Each room within the suite a was air-conditioned and although a warm summer evening outside, sleep quality was amazingly good and we had breakfast served in our living room as an alternative to the buffet offer in the restaurant. Housekeeping throughout was immaculate and all staff genuinely pleasant and engaging. The hotel is set around 150 metres up a side street from the Champs Elysees with its offer of high-end shops and also pavement cafes. The nearest Metro station is George V, on the Champs Elysees, which is a 3 minute walk. That Metro station has a direct line to Louvre-Rivoli station (for the Louvre, Rive Gauche and Notre Dame Cathedral) as well as connecting lines to all Paris sights. The Arc de Triomphe is a 5 minute walk. Reception will call you a taxi, but Uber is readily available, offering both standard cars (Uber X) and premium vehicles (Berline) to get you around the city quickly and easily. We would HIGHLY recommend the Hotel Balzac for its opulent luxury, boutique hotel ambience, engaging customer care and very central location. We will certainly be staying again on our next trip to Paris !…
