First of all, I was a little reluctant to stay here. You had to call the hotel directly and I do not speak French. I wrote out a little to say, but was surprised when I was answered in English. I had to fax over a letter stating my information and then Fed Ex a check to hold our room... More

If you are seeking a charming abode in a romantic part of Paris, you can't do better. The proprietress, Sophie Canipel, is delightful and so accommodating. We lucked into the little efficiency next door and pretended for a week that it was home. She gave us a bottle of wine for the occasion and filled us with options of new... More

My husband and I stayed at the Ermitage Hotel in the hilly Montmartre district of Paris for one night in late September at the end of an anniversary celebration. We wished we could have stayed longer. It's classically French with a very individual and charming style. The entrance hallway has attractive artwork with doorway frames that are painted gold. The... My mother and I stayed at Ermitage for 4 nights in July. It was Mum's first big trip overseas, and this hotel was the perfect place to bring her. The fact that it is not a sterile, minimalist hotel means a lot - it has character and charm. Breakfast on our patio was lovely, overlooking the gardens and neighbouring houses.... More

A little late posting this review, I know (2 years) but I felt I really should sing the praises of this lovely little hotel. Like one of the other reviewers, I brushed off my schoolgirl French and telephoned the owners, only to find that Madame spoke good English! She was absolutely charming and when I said that we would be... More

It's been over five months since returning from our stay in Paris at L'ermitage Hotel and I have finally got around to writing this review. The great service this hotel offered started for me before our holiday began. You have to phone up to make a booking, which was daunting for me, a school girl French speaker at best! I... More

I read about this charming little hotel in Montmartre in my TimeOut guidebook, and it was a perfect spot to stay in for the one night I was there. The owners were extremely friendly. The location was great if you want to spend time in Montmartre. It's not a luxury hotel, but it was clean and perfectly suited my needs.... More

I stayed at this wonderful little place for six nights together with my boyfriend. We stayed in one of the studios with a separate entrance, which was perfect for us. The location was wonderful just close to the very touristic area around the Sacré Coeur, but still a bit away from the worst crowd. The area around Lamarck-Caulaincourt is very... More

Paris needs no introduction, but nestled on a quiet backstreet just behind the Sacre Coeur is the Ermitage Hotel, and it is quite possibly one of the best kept secrets Paris has to offer. This small hotel is outstandingly good value. Staying at the Ermitage is a delight. It is a small hotel with very friendly staff, who speak English... More

There is probably nothing I will say here that has not already been said by the previous reviewers, based off which and a NY times review I had made my reservation at this quaint place. Yes making a reservation is an arduous process particularly when you are coming from a country that is not in the western hemisphere. That said,... More

Staying in Montmartre

Neighborhood Profile
Montmartre
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colors, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
