Detailed Reviews
This hotel was one of the highlights of our brief stay in Paris, and we would most definitely plan to stay here again on a return trip.
The Room
We stayed in a Signature Suite, which had a bedroom and separate sitting room. The room was huge, comfortable, and beautifully appointed. The hotel itself was tasteful and peaceful. We truly looked forward to returning there each day.
The Service
Staff were helpful, generous, discrete, and it felt like every time we left the room we would return to see that it had been tidied (multiple times a day).
Location
A Metro stop is immediately outside the door (Line 6), with another a few minutes away at the Arc de Triomphe. For most of the places you’ll want to visit, it will require a ride on the Metro. The locations walkable are the Arc and the Champs-Élysées.
Critique
Only two things come to mind, and neither of them were close to being bothers such that it would mean we wouldn’t return. The first, air conditioning: we were in Paris during the summer heatwave (up to 105F one day), and we were sure to book a room that was air conditioned. When we arrived we learned that consisted of a portable A/C unit that was vented out the window, requiring the window be left open. We maneuvered the drapes to cover much of the open window, but leaving the window open in that level of heat did make a difference. It wasn’t what I thought would be the case when I saw the room listed as air-conditioned. We were comfortable nonetheless. The second: the shower temperature was erratic. Over the course of a five-minute shower the temperature would vary wildly. It would never get so cold or so hot that it was unbearable, but it was quite noticeable.
Summary
The critiques are minimal in comparison to the overwhelming quality of the hotel. We loved it, and we’d happily return.

We stayed in a two bedroom for 4 nights. It was like stepping back in time. The beds were incredibly comfortable the rooms were large with big closets-room for the large steamer trunks of old. If you like and are accustomed to the more modern decor of the Four Seasons or Peninsula, recognize this is not it. The bathrooms have tub showers that don’t really keep the water in. Needed to just use the hand shower in one or water would have been in the entire bathroom. But they were a nice size with separate rooms for toilet which is always nice when traveling. Service really was incredible. Concierge can help with everything and does so with pleasure. Very good English by almost everyone. Included breakfast is a treat. We had room service once and it was very quick and delicious. While the rooftop was closed we were able to go up at night and see the lights of the Eiffel Tower. Very special. Fitness center is lacking. Very small. Treadmill, elliptical, rowing machine, recumbent and regular bike. Treadmill was broken and elliptical sounded like it was on its last legs. Nice locker room and showers available also a sauna I didn’t use. While they delivered water and macarons and some chocolate on arrival it would have been nice to get some water with the turn down service. Location is great. Easy metro or walking to everything. All in all really a special trip and we would stay again in a heartbeat.

This hotel reminds me in some ways of the Ritz in London, though a bit less over the top, perhaps.
The rooms are as far from modern as you can imagine, but manage not to feel old. 'Just classy and Old World. the service is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is slightly underwhelming, but then the French don't really DO breakfast,so I can forgive this.
The concierge service is 100% perfect. Sam (I think it was) got us into Disney (a horrible theme park, by the way, and I suggest you avoid it) on a day it was completely sold out. He also got us into other local attractions that were unavailable on the day. First rate.
I had a couple of minor gripes with the Raphael, but not enough to deduct a star.....I like the place too much for that.
1. We had two rooms. One had an iron...the other didn't. Why?
2. They left a bottle of wine in our room as part of the package. But there was no corkscrew. Our second room had a corkscrew. Should housekeeping not have a checklist to consult before finishing servicing the room to make sure everything is there?
3.The place could do with some very minor tidying up. One of the carpets in the hallway had a quite noticeable loose strand sticking out, that was about 6 inches long.. How hard would it be to cut this off?
But these are tiny issues and in the bigger picture the Raphael is a great place to stay, and a vastly better value than some of the other 5 stars in Paris.

We booked this hotel due to its location and rooftop terrace to watch the fireworks. I’ve stayed in Paris many times before and the customer service is hit or miss.
First thing is I have to say the customer service at this hotel was top notch. The doormen and concierge were always so kind and helpful. When asked questions, the concierge was responsive and helped us book reservations right away.
The front desk staff was also very welcoming.
However, when we got to our room, we were surprised that there were so many cracks and chipped paint in areas. There was also mold in our bathroom. We reported our disappointment in the room and we were loved to another room the next day. They were apologetic and gave some free goodies and also comped our NY day brunch (130€/pp). The wait staff though did not speak English well.
The new room was in much better shape. The rooms overall were spacious. It is a more traditional and older feel but very clean and comfortable.
The location is excellent as the train stop is nearby. But during this time the trains weren’t working due to the strike.
For NYE on the roof top, you can see both the Eiffel and the Arc du Triumphe. We enjoyed the amazing fireworks show.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you would like to enjoy the rooftop terrace and like a more spacious room in Paris. The service was also excellent.

Dear tinklemd, first of all best wishes for the new year! Thank you for your kind comment that I have shared with the entire team, always a pleasure to read sich positive reviews. I am pleased to read that your enjoyed our spacious rooms, indeed space is a rare commodity nowadays and the hotel is a rare testimony to a bygone era when travellers use to travel overseas with trunks and stayed many weeks in the same place, hence the large dressing rooms/storage space and large rooms. We do our best to upkeep the rooms in an ongoing manner, I am happy that your new room suited best your needs. The team is fantastic overall, very eager to please and ensure every guest has a memorable experience. Our terrace is very unique indeed, I hope you will be able to visit us again soon! thank you again and best regards, Yves Wencker

If you are looking for a hotel with moldy grout in ALL of this rooms, Hotel Raphael is for you! After complaining about the numerous issues with our room, chiefly mold in bathroom, we were told there was nothing they could do, but to try again the following day. The following day, I was shown another room that we could switch into; however, this room also had mold in the bathroom. I explained that I didn't care about the cracked tiles and other issues, I just wanted a room with a clean and sanitary (no mold) bathroom. I was told that, as this was an old hotel, such staining from mold in the bathrooms would be evident in all rooms. I was told I could PAY to upgrade my room, but that the upgraded rooms did not have upgraded bathrooms and would likely have the same issues.
See my attached photos. For the price this hotel charges the condition is deplorable. It is a nice location, and the style is quite elegant, however the condition as it is now is just unacceptable. Very disappointing stay.

Great hotel. We loved the location, it was hot the week we were in Paris and the area was perfect. The street the hotel is on is a pretty street with some shade and plenty of the things you need to enjoy your stay very close. We walked to some great restaraunt that the wonderful concierge team recommended, the Arche de Triomohe is right there as well as shopping. It’s in a beautiful neighborhood and we enjoyed a few early morning walks away from the more touristy parts. The roof top terrace was amazing! We had wonderful food and drinks our first evening. They said only appetizers but the portions were very generous and we did instead of dinner. We had two rooms- the suites are definitely worth the additional money. Next time I would just get two suites as there was a appreciable difference between the Room and suite we were in. But we were so happy we had picked this hotel. The only thing that we didn’t like was the breakfast. We didn’t do the breakfast included option - but the way our schedule worked and having 2 different room it was too hard to coordinate breakfast outside the hotel. Based on the bill at checkout I think we paid 42 euros per person to have coffee and what I would consider mediocre pastries. The breakfast is a buffet with just coffee, juice, the same 4 or 5 types of pastries and scrambled eggs. No changes day to day. You can order omelets and there is a chopped fruit bowl and cereal. On the upside the staff was great and the coffee was good, it was quick and easy. Just too expensive for what it was and way too repetitive. Even having one pastry that varied day to day would have been great. I always wanted a “good” breakfast and it was not even average and irritated me to pay so much day after day. Frankly I would have been happier just paying for a cup of coffee and eating a protein bar, but didn’t feel like getting into whether that was possible with the staff so paid the full price and had toast. There were coffee machines in the room. We did room service once and it was good and prompt. The kids did it more and it was always good quality and service. Overall very very happy with the hotel!

For info: I made 2 reservation before my arrival to hotel Rapahel: from 18 july, 2022 to 21 july 2022 (3 nights) , and from 21 july, 2022 to 23 july 200 (2 nights)I did 2 reservations because when I made the first reservation it was non refundable, and I couldn’t change it but wanted to extend our stay in Paris so I proceeded with the second reservationDay 1: room Number 111,We enter the room, and we are unable to lock the door from inside, I requested front desk to send someone to repair it. . When I entered the bathroom there was no shampoo so I requested shampoo and they said that they use a body gel and shampoo all in one….Bathroom, no shampooing, and soap, I asked for they told me the shampoo and the body gel are the same (first time in my life I heard this in a 5 star hotel). The light in the bathroom was also not working, so requested this to be repaired. After our numerous issues, the Receptionist at front desk promised to change the room! Day 2:They asked me to prepare our luggage to move to a better room, We moved to room 612, day 3 we moved to room 307 To apologize for all these issues, they had put a champagne bottle and a note from the Manager Mr. Fabrice Afuta. Although he shined by his absence since he is in lengthy 24/7 days meetings. However, there was an apology in the note.. least we could ask for…we never saw him and he is always busy in meeting 24 hours a day in the letter he apologies (amazing manager always busy)

Dear JosephKazandjian, First of all, we would like to thank you for staying with us at the Hotel Raphael and for sharing your impression of the hotel. We really value your feedback and the time you took to write about your experience at the hotel. I personally did not have the chance to meet up with us during your stay but know that my team kept me updated on the different issues you and your wife encountered. We understand you suffered from several maintenance issues, and we would like to extend my sincerest apologies for these. We do work on maintaining our property in a consistent way and we very much regret it did not show on this occasion. Our maintenance team reacted promptly and fixed most of the issues you experienced. Again, Mr. Kazandjian, our sincerest apologies for this less than perfect stay. We do hope you will give another opportunity to prove that your experience was the exception rather than the rule. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally so I can take care of your next booking. In the meantime, I remain at your entire disposal should you require further assistance. We truly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Raphael. It was so very memorable. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and interested in making our stay enjoyable: the two attentive staff members(both named Alexandre) as well as Pascal, who facilitated our airport transfers, and Aude, who was always so friendly at the reception desk. I also want to thank Jacque Francois, who was so kind as to find a way to freeze our butter purchases, so I could bring them back to the States. The suite was large, elegant, and refined, furnished with many antiques We enjoyed two bathrooms, a large sitting room, and all the extras anyone could ask for. Balcony windows opened on to each of four small pediments where one could see and enjoy the streets of Paris. Words cannot due justice to the beauty of watching the Effiel Tower light up from the rooftop Terrace. This five star hotel is one of the best! The staff is always at your disposal and make the stay at this luxury hotel an indelible memory of Paris!

This hotel is simply amazing! Built in the 1920’s and opened in 1925, it’s like Hollywood met the Renaissance at the hotel.
The welcome is phenomenal with an energy that makes one feel both welcome and special at the same time. The bellman helped us with our luggage giving us a tour as we walked through the hallway to the reception area. I feel terrible for not knowing his name but he was so kind and chatted with us about the art, design, and was so pleasant to us.
Next, we registered and the man who completed this process brought us to the elevator and up to our room. He took the time to show us all the details of our room, like the bellman he was so friendly and I loved the sense of pride both showed in the hotel and what it offered.
Our room - I felt like royalty or at least a very special person. From the lovely welcome note from the general manger, Fabrice Acura, to the detailed wood and decorated moldings, the lovely sitting area, central king bed, red carpet with a decorated carpet placed atop of it, the lovely writing desk, to the wardrobe with the additional secret wardrobe. But it didn’t end there. Through the doorway was a boudoir that would please any lady! And finally the washroom area with a bath, shower and washbasin. This room is decadent and one, even those greatly traveled, simply will feel impressed.
But this hotel offers so much more. If you go to the bar you will need to order their signature drink, the “Raphael”. It’s scrumptious and the specialty nuts placed on the table while you wait for your drink is a treat that is worth the experience. Also, the bar tender makes a show of mixing the drinks and our server was quite humorous and pleasant as we were there. As well, the restaurant is a lovely experience with excellent food and a perfect variety.
Unfortunately, we were not able to experience the famous roof top area with a bar and beautiful viewing however everything else was so fantastic it simply left us knowing that we will be back to experience this next time too!
Finally, for those that worry the wow factor is just for one night, we have been treated well by all of the staff since we arrived, went out elsewhere to tour Paris, and returned back to the Raphael hotel, the staff here (all, including the staff servicing our room) are lovely, kind, and provide high level service. I will be back to this hotel on my next Paris visit!
Merci pour ce beau séjour!

We did not find homelessness an issue or feel unsafe in this area at all.

I don't know. Not generally something I worry about.
We were there at Hotel Raphael last weekend (Dec 1, 2) and the staff took excellent care of us. We felt very safe in the hotel and were careful on the streets. Some shops and cafes in the area closed but many were open. Museums, tourist sights have closed, some Metro service curtailed, so it is a different visit than usual, but Hotel Raphael staff helped in every way.
"We booked directly on the hotels website and benefited from a great special winter rate that included breakfast and champagne on arrival."Read full review
