My husband and I had plans to travel to Paris for our 20th wedding anniversary. We had reservations at the L’Intercontinent Paris-Avenue Marceau, but the trip was canceled due to Covid. We were promised a refund, but six months later, nothing has happened. Nobody responds to phone calls or emails. And worse yet, IHG refuses to do anything about it. In the future, we will think twice before staying at any IHG-brand hotel.

The reason for the 1 star rating is due completely in part to this location handling of a reservation that was cancelled by the InterContinental Paris-Avenue Marceau during the pandemic. This location was the only hotel to cancel my reservation and NOT provide a refund back to my credit card. We booked our trip to Paris prior to COVID-19 occurring. We were to stay at this location in September 2020. The hotel stated they could not provide a refund due to the situation. It is odd that they cannot provide a refund because the entire hotel is undergoing renovations during the period of time my stay at this location was to occur. I spoke to the reservations manager Veronique via email and they stated they would not provide a refund to my credit card due to the pandemic and company policy. French and company policy states that they could provide a full refund back to the customers credit card as an option during this world crisis but this hotel location was the ONLY hotel to not provide a refund back to the customer. And for that, they will receive the lowest rating I can provide and complete loss of my business at this hotel and IHG in the future.

As a loyal customer to the IHG brand, I just wanted to point specific attention to a property I found charming and perfectly located in the center of Paris. Although, the staff did their best to accommodate my stay, the communication was lacking. Already exhausted from a hotel transfer, I looked to the IHG brand to provide the standard quality of comforts the Intercontinental brand is known for. However, during my stay I wasn’t able to check-in until almost 6pm. I came early understanding the preface that early check-in may not be available. However, when it got to regular check-in, the room wasn’t still available. I was notified several times by different personnel it would be the next hour, every hour until it was 6. Firstly, I’m ok and perfectly accepting of the hotel is overbooked and I was notified it would be a 6pm check-in.. however, there was hardly any communication and I just felt like it was loitering the lobby without purpose. It wasn’t until I personally asked if I could get a drink, they said I can have a complimentary drink. The problem wasn’t the late check-in, it was the lack of communication. I had to constantly go up even after standard check-in hours passed. I felt after then, it was their responsibility to take care of the guest..especially since I already had paid for the reservation for that time. I’m not a very loud and zealous guest to go up and start screaming at staff where I know the power is beyond their control, but it would be appreciative to also have the staff to also be considerate of their guests needs beyond their room. To follow-up, upon check-in, there were no room slippers for the room. I called front desk, and the staff blatantly said and assured that slippers were there. I responded respectfully that they were not, and he replied if it’s not there they ran out. There wasn’t an apology, just clearly said their out. Suspecting that he may have not really checked if there were slippers or not, I called later in the evening requesting the room slippers again. Surprisingly, they had some! So I’m not sure if it was lack of staff communication or whatever..but on top of the late-check in situation..it was not ok. During my stays in Europe including nearby competing properties at the Marriott and Westin (which I had similar late check in problems) the competing brands took initiative to find me and also offer my additional services including drink and meal coupons for the friends waiting with me. I’m not expecting coupons or others things, I just wanted to point out that compared to the Marceau, these larger properties still had time during busy hours to locate their guests and ensure they’re satisfied or being communicated to while they don’t have a room yet. I would like to point out, although initial check-in wasn’t up to par, the rest of my stay was delightful and the property is quite charming. The front desk staff were friendly and my biggest compliments goes to the concierge as well as restaurant staff. Jérémie Dubreuil is the concierge who take care of all my local restaurant reservations. They made my stay easier and more personable. I would just like to improve the bed mattresses. As they seem to sink-in in an old mattress way, not a pillow top feel.

**REMY** is the best manager, offering so much convenience and help. One of my top choices in Paris after traveling here for over 30 times. I got the same welcoming services as other highly-rated hotel like Shangri La, Ritz and Peninsula.
