Comfort and service has always been good when I have used this hotel for a journey break. The new trendy decor is not to my taste and I do not think it is an improvement. The self-service style of breakfast was satisfactory. Most of the food available for the evening meal was enjoyable but our family found the lamb main course excessively salty.

OK I do not like their check in area - the whole mobile phone check in thing although the staff was very nice. But I guess we live in 2019 and you can not expect things always to be the same. Check-in was efficient and very friendly. Slightly disappointed that once again I did not get my upgrade. They did not have my Club Accor number on file they said but I presented it as well upon check in. Something I really need to investigate as I consider Accor Hotels because of the upgrades and seeing that I spend around 3 months per year in a hotel, I appreciate the extra comfort. Nevertheless, even without the upgrade the room was quite big, they had CNN (which to me is a major plus) and a comfortable bed and a decent bathroom. The best thing was the room service though. They do not give you some reduced card but the whole restaurant card so you had an amazing choice. I took the beef filet and it was cooked to perfection. What a delight! And the price was more than fair. Check-out was really efficient and friendly as well. I think in France you will always experience 2 sides: You can go to the Paris area where it is rush rush rush and almost never a really friendly and pro-active service. And you can stay outside Paris (in places like Reims) and you find that friendly smile that you appreciate so much and the service you appreciate.

We spent two nights here. The beds were comfortable enough and not like the previous Mercury/Accord hotel in Macon! That said ,the second time we stayed ,there were 2 coach loads of tourists and not enough waiters in the restaurant. The waiter could hardly be bothered to respond to a request to explain any of the dishes on the menu-she was rushed off her feet and grumpy. The menu has 3 dishes of tartare and carpaccio i.e raw beef ,as well as andouillette( chitterlings sausage)and it had a feel of eating “nose to tail” no real salads or straight forward food. My husband’s chicken kebab consisted of a breast cut in three pieces and it was very dry having very little sauce. We had the fillet steak the first night which ,frankly, was tough and not really as the menu described a “mignonette”and again it lacked sauce. That said the chips were freshly cooked and very nice. As another reviewer has pointed out thewines were pricey The waiter thought nothing about tipping the red Bordeaux wine with its dregs, bits and all into my husband’s glass. The wine was far too warm and the white chablis the second night not chilled properly. We were told their fridge did not work efficiently! Breakfast on our final stay was really very poor - coffee had run out in the jugs ,there were no croissants left and I had to ask for water as the bottle on the side was empty. It is very annoying to have to keep asking for items in a self service restaurant as only one person is needed to keep topping up, especially when the hotel is so busy and breakfast is €15 each. It had been the same in Macon at the same chain-breakfast buffet items running out. I think there are better places to stay than this Mercure where better service is offered and staff are more gracious.

We’ve not been here since they started renovating rooms but the beds were comfortable and it’s a good spot to stop if you are travelling back from the med, and get some kip before the tunnel. We stopped because they hadn’t warned us that the restaurant would be shut, which was a big deal after a long day. Poor girl on her own on reception couldn’t really help.
