We stayed at the hotel on 27 September. With covid lock down we preferred to eat in the hotel as based on reviews it was good. The menu was limited, the 3 course menu offered was the room was little more than lunch so we decided to go á la carte. I can honestly say it was one of the worst meals we have ever eaten. Furthermore the service was slow. In fact I believe our meals had been left on a hot pass so long they were cremated. As the staff were clearly stretched we choose to complain in the morning. Sadly despite this, the receptionist only recommended us contacting the manager by email. I asked him to contact me, but they choose not to. This element of customer service should not have been overlooked. As the hotel is 4* I would have expected more. Based on our experience I would not recommend the restaurant. I noticed also that the breakfast was served buffet style. In the current climate I would not imagine this to be sensible. …
First impressions of Hotel L'Univers was not good. There was no parking or valet parking available which after a long drive from Bordeaux was not what we needed. Despite my gripe we were directed to a nearby carpark about five minutes away. The reception staff were great and spoke good English. This was the only hotel during our French trip that actually took social distancing seriously. Mask throughout and lots of hand gel. The room we had was large and well appointed. Plenty of storage and a huge very comfy bed. An exceptional sleep was spoilt by a single damned mosquito that buzzed my ear all night and treated me to a series of painful itchy bumps in the morning. The room had free bottled water and the Rituals lotions and potions were great. The hotel is very well located, just a 2 min drive down one road from the motorway. Very easy to find and just a short walk to the old town. I would recommend Tours for a nights stop. There is plenty to see and lots of great shops. Breakfast was appalling I'm afraid. Very little choice and not very good quality. One coffee machine that took an age to brew a cup. I don't think we paid extra for breakfast as it was included but given the choice I would eat elsewhere. The spa looked fantastic but we did not use.…
Booked as a waypoint on way to our major stop. Our second visit.. Service excellent, staff friendly and courteous. Extremely diligent re COVID rules. Everything needed after a long journey. Breakfast a bit disappointing but that was only because of it being a buffet and had to adhere to all the policies required. Might be better to offer served breakfast at a higher rate. But not really an issue
The hotel needs redecorating throughout - the room was OK (no carpet which was a plus) but awkwardly set out and had a noisy vent. The staff were miserable but I would probably be the same if I worked there.
There are not a lot of hotels to choose from in Tours, so after reading reviews, we decided to go with this one because we wanted Tours to be our base in the Loire Valley. It was in a good location within easy walking distrance to restaurants and shops. It also is a 5 min drive to the train station and within 30-60 minutes of most of the major castles in the area. However, we reserved a junior suite and the room was shabby with pretty cheap furniture. The walls were pretty banged up, the area under the vent on the wall was black and filthy, and the toilet was in this separate tiny room which was claustophobic. But the bed was clean and comfortable, the walk in shower was spacious and had good water pressure, but there were no shelfs or caddies so you had to put your soap and shampoo on the floor. It was deinitely not a 4 star hotel in terms of quality. On the plus side, the front desk staff were very nice and helpful and the location was convenient with parking.…
