Very close to the station but on a quiet street. Easy walk from the train, and then we saw it. . . "Hotel Moderne" it is not! Don't let the name fool you. It is everything but modern. Still, we only needed a place to crash, so we walked in. An unpleasantly sweet smell struck us. The man at the desk was very unfriendly, and barely glanced up at us. He told us that check-in is at 2:30. It was 11:30. He put our luggage in a closet and I asked to use the toilet. He repeated: Not until 2:30. Really???? We returned around 4 pm and the man seemed friendlier now. (My husband says it was a different man) Our room, #22, was on the 3rd floor. An old narrow winding staircase -- carpeted only the first section-- with a pseudo Persian runner. You have to be vigilant walking up, making sure to step on the wider part of the circular steps or you could lose your footing. When we walked into the room, we were knocked off our feet by that awful sweet smell. I have allergies and I was beginning to get a knot in my forehead area. The first thought that entered by mind was, what were we thinking? Did we read any reviews of the place?? (we always do). We opened the window wide and my husband immediately tried to get onto the wifi. I won't go into the ordeal with that, other than to say that the fellow at the desk gave us the wrong code, then said it's in the "book in the room" yet there was no book. And finally, he said we can use the unsecured wifi in the common area, which is what we did to find another hotel and get out of there. As I write this, they initially told Booking.com that we were a no-show, and charged us 65 euros for a night. Then they claimed we stayed in the room for 7 hours. In the end, I took it up with our credit card company, and so far, we've not heard anything back. Awful experience.

Good central location, but very basic accommodation. The walls were so thin, we could hear the next room's snoring. It was cold when we arrived but no way to put the heating on. Being cheerful kept the staff members going lol. Would stay there again if I will be there for one night only. Happy travelling.

Hotel was advertised as having parking. This was outside with meters on the street and only free after 18,30 to 9am. It was sheer luck that we got parking nearby. The owners are very pleasant and helpful in giving information about what to see in town. We were supplied with a map...really useful. We were offered continental breakfast at a rate of 9€. Room 12 is up a flight of stairs, no lift available. The sink in the room was blocked. The toilet seat was loose. The flush was noisy...like that in an airplane. There is no air con If you go on rubbish collection day be aware that 6am you will awoken with the loudest lorry imaginable. Rubbish collection day is Tuesday morning. The room had not been cleaned well. There were biscuit remains on the floor.

The ironically named hotel is clean, and has running water. They have a shower curtain as well! The windows open and there is no AC (I didn't expect at this price) but also no Fan!! - Very Spartan. Expect to sleep on top of the covers with the windows wide open.

Right, so you are like me and don’t expect much from a hotel, other than a bed to spend the night and maybe a place for a shower in the morning. I’m easy to please, and the staff of the hotel was pretty nice and welcoming, so everything seemed fine. What I didn’t know was that I was about to spend one of the worst nights you can imagine… For one reason only: heat! Mind you, it was January, Tours is cold in January. But that doesn’t mean that you want to sleep in a hotel where the central heating cannot be switched down at your room. I assure you, the temperature was higher than 35º C. We spent the night drinking water from the toilet and fearing dehydration. In the morning, I asked the (very nice) staff what happened and whether it could not be changed. “This is just how it is…” Very well, then, what could be a perfectly reasonable abode for one night becomes a season in hell.
