We stayed at this beautiful property for 3 nights en route to the Dordogne. It is without doubt an exceptional accommodation close to the incredible cathedral and Chartres. Valerie and Marthe were extremely helpful. The apartment was spotless and the garden is tranquil to sit to have coffee and read. Perfect in every way with special attention to detail. Thank you for an amazing stay Valerie
We stayed at Maison Ailleurs for three nights in July. The Maison is really superb. Great location in Chartres - in a very charming part of town literally just a few minutes walk from the cathedral. The apartment was large and charming. The kitchen was well-equipped. The garden is larger in reality than in the pictures and a nice place to relax. We had a flat tire on the last day and needed to stay an extra night and the two hosts were incredibly friendly... helping us extend our stay, organizing transport for us, and even coordinating with the French mechanics fixing the car. Thanks Valerie and Marthe!
Absolutely lovely accommodation, perfect for immersing yourself into the spirit Chartres. A true sense of warmth and hospitality. Thank you for a beautiful stay and the delicious breakfasts! Highly recommend.
Chartres is, of course, one of the great European centres of religious art and history, and there can surely be no better way of immersing yourself in it than from a base in Maison Ailleurs. A former bishop's residence just a short distance from the cathedral, the residence oozes a deeply evocative sense of past splendours and ecclesiastical power, and you can almost feelthe presence of Bishop Fulbert from the moment you step into the courtyard from the street and make your way up the time-worn stairs. But this is by no means an ancient monument. The facilities are modern and Valerie has provided so many thoughtful comforts and conveniences to make your stay truly memorable. Any downsides? Well, the heating was only just sufficient on a very cold and wet weekend and the television obstinately refused to find any channels. But hey! you come here to find spiritual solace, and you get that in abundance.…
I can not recommend this lovely B&B highly enough. Our hostess was welcoming and the continental breakfast was amazing. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed comfortable with crisp linens. We will be back!!!
From the front door, this home oozes tranquility and splendour. Our room was beautiful with little touches that made it seem homely; candles, coffee machine, milk in the fridge, tiny meringues, lovely toiletries, it seems Valerie has thought of everything! SO close to the cathedral, and Valerie has good recommendations for where to eat. At night you can lay in bed and listen to the cathedral bells, which are not loud enough to stop you sleeping extremely well! Breakfast was served in the garden, and Valerie provided me with homemade gluten free cake, as she is well versed in catering for those with gluten intolerance. We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back.
Chartres is a place to visit for two days at most. Amazing stained glass, but not much else. Sadly, maison ailleurs is the sort of place you want to stay for at least a week. It is almost perfection. A squirt of WD40 on one door and nationwide tea-making lessons is all it would take to be perfect. Every hotel and b&b owner should stay here and take a lesson on hospitality, service and cuisine.
Situated in a historic building with up to date modern and tastefully arrange interiors, gastronomic fresh breakfast served in your room. Must see the garden in the back yard. 3-5 minutes away from the Chartres Cathedral. Polite and attentive at the smallest service detail, what a wonderful surprise and time we've had at Maison and Ailleurs. I
I am normally wary of B&Bs, we normally stay in hotels, but this one is not to be missed. It's Location, a five or six minute walk from the cathedral, on a quite street in the historic center would be to beat. It is a beautiful building that has both charm and style. The two rooms we viewed were both large and well appointed . The garden is both lovely and for the location surprisingly large. The breakfast provided was the best I've had in my 16 days in France, and I have had some good breakfasts. Breakfast is served in your very large room, or weather permitting in the garden. Everything worked and the water pressure in the shower was the best I've experienced on the trip. Finally a good deal has been said about it the posts on the site about the helpfulness and knowledge of the owners and I want you to know it's true. If you are looking for a place to stay in Chartres select Maison Ailleurs. I have attached pictures of our room which do not do it justice, but then the two rooms we saw both looked every bit as good our better that the pictures on the web site.…
We spent a night at Maison Ailleurs. Parts of the house date back to the XIVth century. It has been beautifully renovated. The house has not lost any character but has all the modern details which made for a most pleasant stay. It is minutes away from the Cathedral and within walking distance of several excellent restaurants. Breakfast was amazing. Freshly squeezed orange juice, a fruit smoothie and home made youghurt, all delicious. Croissants and coffee or tea were on offer. Our hostess was very kind attentive and had time to talk to us about the history of the house. We had a very good nights rest in a very comfortable bed. We look forward to staying there again.
