Detailed Reviews
On our trip to Finistère we made a stopover in Chartres for just one night. We looked for a location which was recommended by other travellers, which served breakfast and which offered a parking lot for our car. The description of Maison Ailleurs met our expectations and we decided to stay here. The communication with Valerie (the owner) and Marte before our arrival was perfect and we got all informations to easily find the location. We were warmly welcomed and had a superb stay in the beautiful Bishops Residence. Marte made a reservation for us in a nearby restaurant where we had a delicious dinner. We highly recommend Maison Ailleurs.

We stayed at Maison Ailleurs for three nights in July. The Maison is really superb. Great location in Chartres - in a very charming part of town literally just a few minutes walk from the cathedral. The apartment was large and charming. The kitchen was well-equipped. The garden is larger in reality than in the pictures and a nice place to relax. We had a flat tire on the last day and needed to stay an extra night and the two hosts were incredibly friendly... helping us extend our stay, organizing transport for us, and even coordinating with the French mechanics fixing the car. Thanks Valerie and Marthe!

Large and beautiful house of character located in the center, 2 minutes walk from the Cathedral but in a particularly quiet area. Superb and large garden that guests can use. Closed and free indoor parking. There are three suites, we were in the garden side suite, spacious, very well decorated and furnished, beautiful bathroom and small kitchen well equipped with the essentials (condiments, sugar, nespresso capsules, teas). Small flat screen TV with built-in CD player. The owner is charming and does everything to make you comfortable and satisfied. In short, perfect in every way.

Chartres is, of course, one of the great European centres of religious art and history, and there can surely be no better way of immersing yourself in it than from a base in Maison Ailleurs. A former bishop's residence just a short distance from the cathedral, the residence oozes a deeply evocative sense of past splendours and ecclesiastical power, and you can almost feelthe presence of Bishop Fulbert from the moment you step into the courtyard from the street and make your way up the time-worn stairs. But this is by no means an ancient monument. The facilities are modern and Valerie has provided so many thoughtful comforts and conveniences to make your stay truly memorable. Any downsides? Well, the heating was only just sufficient on a very cold and wet weekend and the television obstinately refused to find any channels. But hey! you come here to find spiritual solace, and you get that in abundance.

This place is really special. Elegant and stylish with clever attention to detail. Valerie was very helpful with our requests and Marthe was on hand but discrete. I recommend you have the breakfast boxes. Our room overlooked the most beautiful garden. We did not want to leave. Highly recommended.

We stayed at this beautiful property for 3 nights en route to the Dordogne. It is without doubt an exceptional accommodation close to the incredible cathedral and Chartres. Valerie and Marthe were extremely helpful. The apartment was spotless and the garden is tranquil to sit to have coffee and read. Perfect in every way with special attention to detail. Thank you for an amazing stay Valerie

Very high quality service and place. A warm welcome. A fabulously romantic house without being cutesy. A place that has a history, wonderfully maintained and decorated with very perfect taste. Attentions that are both professional and kind.

I am normally wary of B&Bs, we normally stay in hotels, but this one is not to be missed. It's Location, a five or six minute walk from the cathedral, on a quite street in the historic center would be to beat. It is a beautiful building that has both charm and style. The two rooms we viewed were both large and well appointed . The garden is both lovely and for the location surprisingly large. The breakfast provided was the best I've had in my 16 days in France, and I have had some good breakfasts. Breakfast is served in your very large room, or weather permitting in the garden. Everything worked and the water pressure in the shower was the best I've experienced on the trip. Finally a good deal has been said about it the posts on the site about the helpfulness and knowledge of the owners and I want you to know it's true. If you are looking for a place to stay in Chartres select Maison Ailleurs.
I have attached pictures of our room which do not do it justice, but then the two rooms we saw both looked every bit as good our better that the pictures on the web site.

From the front door, this home oozes tranquility and splendour. Our room was beautiful with little touches that made it seem homely; candles, coffee machine, milk in the fridge, tiny meringues, lovely toiletries, it seems Valerie has thought of everything!
SO close to the cathedral, and Valerie has good recommendations for where to eat. At night you can lay in bed and listen to the cathedral bells, which are not loud enough to stop you sleeping extremely well!
Breakfast was served in the garden, and Valerie provided me with homemade gluten free cake, as she is well versed in catering for those with gluten intolerance.
We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back.

What a fabulous place is Maison Ailleurs! We arrived to a lovely welcome by Valerie, and shown to our room via a spectacular staircase. The room was vast and beautifully furnished with an extremely comfortable bed, and a shower room with great pressure. We stayed two nights. The breakfast was substantial and delicious, served in our room by Valerie (and her husband), at the time of our choosing. We felt like royalty!
Chartres was a wonderful town to visit - the Cathedral was amazing, When we returned in the evening after a day's sightseeing Valerie had left some wine for us to have in the garden. In conclusion, I am sure that there is nowhere better to stay in Chartres. We will return

Bonjour,
You would be most welcome to park your car in our courtyard before check in time. In case of early arrival we usualy open the doors onto the courtyard to make your parking easy upon arrival and prepare the room as soon as available. Depending on your plan, we could probably organize an early chek in around noon of begining of the afternoon.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further question or visit our website for more detailed information and reservations.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Happy new year,
Best regards
Valerie
