This is a lovely property and, oh, so convenient for going to the best parts of Amboise, namely the castle (isn't that what we come for), Clos Lucé where Leonardo da Vinci lived out his last years (another outstanding must-see), and some of the best restaurants in town --- all within a 6-15 minute walk! The staff are helpful and efficient, and will gladly schlep your luggage to the room (thank you Gilles!). There is no restaurant on the property, but it does serve breakfast from 0715-1015hrs. However, I wouldn't bother with breakfast because, at almost 18 euros, I've had far better at similar hotels (in Saint-Patrice and Chenonceaux, for example) for one or two euros more. The selection of breads and pastries is small and, worse, not terribly fresh; there's only one type of ham and I don't recall seeing any fresh fruit, which was standard at the other hotels; you get two choices of egg, namely, scrambled and hard boiled. If you plan on staying here, you need to be aware it is VERBOTEN!! to consume ANY FOOD on the premises--not in your room, not on the terrace, not even in the breakfast room. This policy, I found to be a bit unreasonable and certainly the first of its kind in any of the hotels I've stayed in. While I can understand it may be messy to deal with half-eaten food in the room, perhaps some allowance can be made to permit food to be eaten on the terrace or breakfast room--I would gladly pay a 5-euro service & clean-up fee for the privilege. But no, it's not allowed, so forget about bringing back any pastries or sandwiches you have bought in town for a mid-afternoon snack. The rooms are good-looking but the furniture is old and part of our suite had wooden floorboards that creaked and were showing their age; the armoire in the living room definitely needed some fixing up. The bed, thankfully, was very comfortable, even the sofa bed, which was turned down in the evening. The bathroom, while decent in size, was sadly lacking in hooks--there was only one! Where to hang the towels for three persons?? (BTW, this cardinal sin--stinging on hooks--is committed by most other hotels, so it's not unique to this one). The shower was narrow and difficult to manoeuvre in even for someone of average build, and the towels were not terribly absorbent. We had no regrets staying on this property for the positive reasons mentioned above and can recommend it to first-timers; but we are unlikely to return in view of it's odd policy on food and tired furnishings. Oh, and one more thing... the entrance gate to this property is very narrow (you can just about squeeze in an SUV with a couple of inches on either side) and easy to miss from the street as it's positioned at a very awkward angle, making it nearly impossible to make a left turn to enter unless you're driving a very small car. Parking is free, but again, spaces are narrow (typical of European towns) and limited--no more than 18 cars, I estimate.

Response from EricDEFORGES, Propriétaire at Hotel Le Manoir les Minimes

Dear Madam, Dear Sir, Many thanks for your review on our establishment on its location, the quality of our rooms and the hospitality of our staff. Our breakfast included a large variety of hot beverages, fresh fruit juices, cereal, muesli, dried and fresh season fruits, croissants, “pain au chocolat” and fresh baguettes from the best Amboise bakery. We further include a choice of 6 marmalades and honey, ham, hard boiled eggs, scramble eggs, choice of cheeses and assortments of natural yogurt, rice pudding, homemade apple sauce and cake. With all of this being served on crisp linen with porcelain dishes and silver, we feel we have created an experience as well as an enjoyable meal. Readers of TripAdvidor will make their own opinion by comparing but know that for the same period we have received several comments where travelers staying in our hotel have thanked us for the quality of our breakfast. The Manoir les Minimes has always catered to discerning travellers, who seek comfortable, luxurious facilities within refined, elegant surroundings. Our goal and focus every day, is to ensure that our guests can relax and enjoy the peaceful ambience of the Manoir. It would therefore be inappropriate to allow a few guests to have picnics on the terrace which is at the front of the Manoir and which our other guests must walk past or sit amongst if they are outside. The unpacking of sausages, cheeses, pizzas and alcohol would not be acceptable to other guests. Such a proposal and behaviour shows a lack of consideration for others. Furnishings and decoration have been carefully chosen to match the style of our house. These pieces have a specific patina for an old worn appearance. Maybe this is not your taste and you prefer modern furniture type big chain hotel without soul. Why you choose to book in a Manor from 18th century if you don’t like this style. This is his style what makes our house so charming and so much appreciated by customers. The entrance gate’s hotel is narrow, but is authentic 18 century gate listed and S.U.V. don’t exist as this period. Sorry for it Our establishment is located in the city center which is a luxury to be able to park your car in a safe place and which is free for our customers. Each parking space measures 2.30 meters which is the norm in France. Best Regards

We have just returned from a few days at the this hotel. I can honestly say that it was a great pleasure to stay here. The surroundings are beautiful, the hotel very elegant but not at all stuffy. That is in my opinion a very fine line and this hotel has mastered the art admirably. We stay in many hotels due to my husbands work and I’m very fussy but honestly this hotel has hospitality down to a fine art. We had one of the attic rooms, large comfortable and beautifully furnished. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful . We sat outside one evening with some wine and nibbles before going out for dinner and it was lovely. Far more peaceful than the restaurants in the centre. We had breakfast in the hotel and it was lovely, again an elegant peaceful environment, not the noisy chaos of many hotels . We disgraced ourselves somewhat by forgetting to return the room key at the end of our stay , which we have since posted. I’m blaming my husband entirely for that and for burying our passports at the bottom of his suitcase ! Thank you to everyone at Le Manoir les Minimes for a lovely stay. Next time we will stay much longer I hope.

Situated at the base of a chateau, this charming hotel was the highlight of our trip. It’s location was perfect for touring the castles and wineries in the region, in addition to being within walking distance of many restaurants and shops in Amboise. The hotel is exquisitely decorated with fine furnishings and French flair. Our room was in the annex and very special. The walk-in shower, luxurious linens, and over sized room were all beyond our expectations. The breakfast was outstanding with an abundance of choices and some specialty items. I can’t say enough about our lovely hosts and the opportunity to be treated like royalty. I highly recommend this hotel for an authentic French experience.
