The room was spacious and updated, the staff helpful and friendly. The hotel has a cozy indoor bar and a lovely garden area for breakfast in good weather. This is the perfect get-away for 3 days in beautiful, medieval Beaune, a small gem at the heart of one of France’s premier wine regions. Everything is walkable—including the not-to-be-missed Hôtel Dieu (Hospice de Beaune) and Office of Tourism, where many wine-tasting excursions originate. Lots of wonderful eateries for all budgets are nearby. Walkable from the train station. Quiet and spotlessly clean. We would stay there again!

The Hotel des Ramparts is an ancient building in the centre of Beaune, a few minutes’ walk from all its attractions. It’s on a fairly quiet street, but if you want complete silence there are rooms facing onto the internal courtyard. Our room (1) was very spacious, as was the excellent bathroom, and it also had a large double bed and some antique furniture. Easy parking at the rear of the hotel. Only issue was wifi which has trouble penetrating the old stone walls in some of the rooms, including No.1 (it works fine in the reception area). Friendly management who were happy for us to choose any of the rooms which were available for the two nights we were there. The room was offered to us at a special rate of €135 a night (normally €185).

My husband and I loved staying at this hotel. The staff could not have been nicer and more helpful. Our room was very clean, as was the bathroom. The decor of the hotel is so well appointed. We loved the courtyards, one outside and one inside...just beautiful. The women were all so nice as they helped us book a wine tour and thankfully found my Rick Steves book (my "Bible" for travel). We truly could not have been happier here...perfect location and lovely hotel.

We were there in January, and so wished we could have enjoyed the delightful courtyard for a long coffee in the morning or wine in the evening. We may need to return just to experience this! Our room, on the front of the second floor, was much nicer than a 3-star room. I was afraid we would regret being on the front, but we heard no noise from the street. The bathroom was very modern, but I would agree with other reviewers — they need hand rails for getting in and out of the slippery tub/shower. The staff was very helpful, English-speaking, and had some great recommendations for restaurants. The breakfast was adequate, so you might think about just getting coffee then going to a patisserie in town. Parking was easy on the street and in the garage around the corner. Our stay at the Des Ramparts was very nice and a great beginning for our tour of this area of France and we would definitely book it again.

My wife and I stayed five nights and used this hotel as a base for exploring Burgundy. In retrospect, we feel this hotel was a very good choice. Our room was a suite, fortunately just up one flight of winding stairs, and consisted of a large bedroom, separate sitting room and updated, modern bathroom with a great shower. The rooms and bathroom were clean and well maintained. I love these restored and well-maintained buildings, but I think repair must be challenging since right angles and square, flush surfaces don't exist. However, this hotel has charm and character. The staff was very professional and friendly. I appreciated their explanation of the parking situation in front of the hotel (unmetered at night, on holidays and Sundays). The breakfast was OK, contained the basics, but wasn't worth the 13 or 14 euro's per person so we didn't purchase it beyond our first morning. The hotel is wonderfully situated for exploring Beaune's many sites. Outside of the town, driving the route des grands crus, taking a hike on the many trails in the wine country (the TI has a good route map for 3 Euros), exploring Dijon, and the smaller villages of semur-en-auxois and vezelay are worthwhile. Fall, after the wine harvest completes, is a good time to come to Beaune as the number of tourists slows and the fall colors take hold. Of course, don't forget to buy a couple bottles of the wonderful pinot noir to take home.
