Overall 3.5 stars. Le Cep is listed as a 5 star hotel and they are in a way, but in a few ways they have a long way to go. Location wise the hotel could not be in a better location. Very close to historical sites, wineries, caves, tasting rooms and shopping. You can walk everywhere by staying in the heart of the city. The hotel itself is a piece of history with towers built in the 15th century. When we met our guide she actually started by telling us the history of the hotel. The interior of the hotel lobby area has a bar, sitting area and two adjacent rooms with lists of space to enjoy time with friends or listen to music. There is a dining area outside where we had breakfast each day with a full buffet with eggs, cheese, breads, fruit etc. You can also eat inside the hotel in their spacious restaurant. The staff was great, with most speaking excellent English and promptly serving us whenever we needed it. We found the helpful and courteous. The hotel itself is very clean inside and out. Where they need to improve is in the rooms. To get to your room you walk up an a stone staircase which is sort of fun unless you are older and have trouble with stairs. Now, given the age of the building I would expect the rooms to be a little odd size wise, so I give lead-way for that. The main bedroom is spacious with a couch and windows that open. The room was clean. We were in room 120, which is a corner room overlooking the interior courtyard. The room was quiet and we were never disturbed by the people below who might get up early for breakfast. There is a mini bar and desk in the room and they provide bottled water. The bathroom is small and needs to be gutted. It has 2 sinks, a very small shower and a tub. There is also a bidet, but the toilet is across the hall in a separate room. You will find nice robes and slippers as well as the normal amenities such as shampoo etc. the vanity should be replaced as should the shower where the door keeps popping open and is just old. Now, even though the hotel is hundreds of years old I don’t expect the furniture to be. Frankly, all the furniture needs to go and be replaced as does the carpeting. There is a bit of an odor of staleness when you enter the room. The dresser was falling apart and some drawers would not close properly. The couch material looked like they belonged to my grandmother. There is a very odd long pillow like object on the bed and two other non standard sized pillows that are just uncomfortable. The bed itself was comfortable and we did sleep well. The side tables are very small and our stuff kept falling off. The clock kept coming unplugged and you can’t adjust the brightness other than completely off or bright on. If you need a lot of outlets bring an extension cord with you as we did. Overall, we enjoyed Le Cep for the reasons stated above and might stay here again, but in a different room. The reason for 3 stars is simply the room. When you come to a 5 star hotel the most important part is the room and in this case it was disappointing.

Thank you Stacey for taking such time to review so many details about your experience in Le CEP. I appreciate your numerous positive comments, as well as your more critics, as they are helpful for us to improve always our Maison! You are right, this room is unique and well located, with 2 windows, open on the garden and on the XVI century courtyard, and this room deserves a renovation to make it even more attractive! Our next annually program of renovation for this winter include this room! We hope to have the pleasure to welcoming you again in the futur, and you will have the choice of another room among our 62 bedrooms, including 32 suites... May be you could try one of them, as they pleased all our international Vips... The signature of our exclusive Hotel is that all the rooms are different, so we should found the right one for you, as we know now what is your taste. But I am proud to say that what makes Le CEP so unique is not only the room, but the location, the charm, the authenticity and overall the personalised service my entire loyal team and I are devoted to provide to our guests, for the best experience in Burgundy!

When we walked in, we were surrounded by quiet beauty and a cozy feeling of luxury but not »bling-bling » , just subtle class and refinement. We were welcomed with fresh orange juice and very professional staff who proceeded to upgrade us to a beautiful suite under the roof, with a florale design...wow, stunning and tastefully decorated and felt like spring. There are no faults, everywhere you look, it’s clean and no details are overlooked. The premises are a oasis of quietness with enclosed garden and an elaborate spa which we didn’t have time to enjoy unfortunately. There is a turn-down bed to prepare your room for the night which is a nice touch, including the best selection of tea and Nespresso capsules. The bathrobes are thick and soft, and the selection of products for bath are excellent quality. The mattress was soft yet firm enough for my husband and the couch bed for our 15 years old daughter was a real soft mattress!! Would highly recommend this beautiful hotel, and highest marks go to the staff for their availability, always smiling and willing to go out of their way. We had the pleasure of being greeted by an Asian lady when we arrived on the 30th March and she also did the check-out and wanted to make sure that we didn’t leave behind a gift-basket which was in the room; how thoughtful...another special touch!!! Thanks for making us feel so welcome and eventhough your hard work looks easy, we know it’s a very demanding job, you just make it look so natural!!! Thank-you for everything, we will be back!!

We stayed at the Le Cep for two nights while taking a side trip through Burgundy before returning to Paris. Visit was seamless. Staff were all welcoming, spoke English well, room was spacious and we had a small welcome treat with mustards and some other local goods waiting for us on arrival. We received a cleaning cloth for eyeglasses and sunglasses when checking out. Wouldn't hesitate to return. You can walk easily to everything in Beaune. We enjoyed the Hospice, some local shops, a visit to Joseph Drouhin -- all a 5-10 minute walk away. Had a memorable dinner at L'Petit Paradis and we set up a day of touring with Burgundy Discovery and that was memorable too. One small point to keep in mind is that many local restaurants and shops close on Sunday and Monday. Not fatal but we didn't get to try the restaurant on site as a result.

The most amazing service ever. Most everyone speaks English. Front desk is very helpful with dinner reservations, directions, suggestions. Although there was a restaurant for breakfast on the property we did not wind up eating there. Instead we had breakfast in the sitting room next to the dining room some days and delivered to our room some days. For about 6 Euros per person you can get a pot of coffee (about 2-2 1/2 cups), a carafe of FRESH SQUEEZED OJ (about 2 glasses), and several croissants. All per person no less ! This was perfect for us and did not feel the need to have a bigger breakfast. The room we had was very small on the second floor but was lavishly decorated and had a very nice balcony with chairs. Sadly it was quite cold in the morning so we were not really able to have our coffee/breakfast on the patio. Really nice amenities in the room. Bottles of still and sparkling water, lots of fluffy bath towels, really nice bath amenities even a nail file. Fluffy robes and slippers. We met the owner of the property. He is very accessible and hands-on. He took us to see the wine cellar and mentioned you can simply reserve a time to use it. You can either buy a bottle of wine from the hotel or bring your own if you prefer. Hotel has parking lot as well for a daily fee. Location is good, quite area only steps from attractions such as Museum Hotel Dieu. Highly recommend this property.

We stayed at this property for a four day cycling trip around the Beaune countryside. The hotel is quite charming and impeccably kept. The front desk staff (especially Marie) were incredibly helpful, kind and cheerful. The location is ideal with multiple fabulous restaurants within an easy walking distance.
