Our main reason for choosing this hotel was that it was a good stopping off point on our journey from Annecy to Dieppe. It is within a few minutes drive from the A6 autoroute and beautifully situated by a river near to the historic town of Avallon. It is also within easy reach of the hilltop town of Vezelay. The... The weather was not kind to us here, so we weren't able to to take advantage of what I'm sure would be wonderful walks in the area. But even in overcast, drizzley conditions, the setting of this pretty hotel is delightful. The sound of the stream going by is soothing. We had a spacious and well appointed room with a... More

The weather will have helped, but this place is just wonderful. The setting, nature, staff, well maintained, just perfect for me. I came for a stopover on my way to Spain, and very happy I picked this place. Very close to Avallon, Chablis etc. My travel agent messed up my booking, but on arrival they had rooms available. And without... More

There can no lovelier stretch of tree-shrouded river anywhere else in France. We have been coming to the Valley of the Cousin River for over 35 years. It still takes the breath away. Les Ruats, an ancient flourmill, it's waterwheel still functioning, sits by the rushing waters offering charming ensuite rooms, a warm welcome and excellent cuisine. Dinner choices consisted... Our four night stay was comfortable. If the weather had been good, we would have walked in the countryside all around. But it rained and found a couple of excellent museums in Avallon. The Butterfly museum and the costume museum. The restaurant was good, but we might have got bored with the same menu each night. I don't think many... More

Stayed here 15 years ago and the place is timeless. A different season, a different chef . . .but you cant get a more picturesque location nor more restful. Great place to stop to immerse yourself in the culture of the Chanlis regiion.

Overnight stop on the way back to UK. Having previously stayed there many years ago & we thought we would try it again. A lovely spot in the Summer perhaps but in January it can be a dark & feel damp due to the close proximity of the river. Our room was in an annexe walking distance from the Hotel... More

Excellent location and very good place to stay. If your base is around Avallon or Vezelay then this is very strong candidate to stay outside of city limits but in great proximity to everything. its location can't be any better, good service and great restaurant. Breakfast is simple but very satisfying. Dinners are unmatched. Hiking from this place along Cousin... More

We stayed for two nights with friends (4 of us in total) at a great price and have nothing but positive comments about this hidden gem. The location is great (if a little shady in the bottom of a steep sided valley), the whole place is spotlessly clean and the staff (and in particular the "patron") are attentive and pleasant.... This hotel provides adequate accommodation in a pleasant wooded setting alongside a small river. The hotel and rooms are somewhat dated and appear to have bypased the renovation that most hotels of this class seem to have undergone over the last few years. There is plenty of open air parking. The wifi is adequate, but the tv channels kept breaking... More
