I have been visiting the Cousin River Valley for forty years. The unspoiled beauty, the towering granite crags, the rushing water, the whispering greenery, the place is truly lost in time. Found, fortunately, is Le Moulin des Ruats, an ancient watermill on the banks of the river. Expect a warm welcome, characterful rooms, some with river views and balconies. Look...

On our road trip from Paris to Switzerland, we stayed a night at this quaint and charming hotel located in the heart of nature in the Burgundy region of France. As we passed through the town of Avallon on our way to the hotel, we were not sure if we were on the right road as it was a narrow...

The hotel is located in a charm place next to a very nice river and with a nice moulin. The restaurant has a very good quality (but is not cheap) with views to the moulin and the river. The lobby/bar is fine for a drink. The breakfast could have a little more variety of choices. The rooms are ok with...

Our main reason for choosing this hotel was that it was a good stopping off point on our journey from Annecy to Dieppe. It is within a few minutes drive from the A6 autoroute and beautifully situated by a river near to the historic town of Avallon. It is also within easy reach of the hilltop town of Vezelay. The...

The weather was not kind to us here, so we weren't able to to take advantage of what I'm sure would be wonderful walks in the area. But even in overcast, drizzley conditions, the setting of this pretty hotel is delightful. The sound of the stream going by is soothing. We had a spacious and well appointed room with a...

The weather will have helped, but this place is just wonderful. The setting, nature, staff, well maintained, just perfect for me. I came for a stopover on my way to Spain, and very happy I picked this place. Very close to Avallon, Chablis etc. My travel agent messed up my booking, but on arrival they had rooms available. And without...

There can no lovelier stretch of tree-shrouded river anywhere else in France. We have been coming to the Valley of the Cousin River for over 35 years. It still takes the breath away. Les Ruats, an ancient flourmill, it's waterwheel still functioning, sits by the rushing waters offering charming ensuite rooms, a warm welcome and excellent cuisine. Dinner choices consisted...

Our four night stay was comfortable. If the weather had been good, we would have walked in the countryside all around. But it rained and found a couple of excellent museums in Avallon. The Butterfly museum and the costume museum. The restaurant was good, but we might have got bored with the same menu each night. I don't think many...

Stayed here 15 years ago and the place is timeless. A different season, a different chef . . .but you cant get a more picturesque location nor more restful. Great place to stop to immerse yourself in the culture of the Chanlis regiion.

Overnight stop on the way back to UK. Having previously stayed there many years ago & we thought we would try it again.
