This was a last minute stop over as the traffic from Provence was awful. The exterior looks promising but inside is disappointing for the price - just generally tatty and a bit musty; all new decor and fixtures / fittings are desperately needed; very small bathroom with peeling wall paper and water marks all around the window, the toilet was... I stay here every year and am met with the best service I could hope for. The hotel has a charm all its own and wonderful ambiance. The people are lovely, breakfast is just right and coffee and pastries delicious.

Avallon was the half way point on horse-driven trips from Paris to the south in the old days. Now by-passed by motorways it has sunk in importance but retains a lot of old world charm in the town centre. Its a fascinating place to visit still en-route and the Hostellerie is still part of the "old world". Seduced by pleasing... More

Dear David, We are sad to hear you haven't get satisfied of your stay in our historical house. The day you've come was a really busy one, the staff usually does its best to help the guests who need. The parking is 100m behind the hotel and we know that the pavement are not very confortable with suitcases, that's why... More

A lovely Hotel spoils by the Evening meal-Amuse Bushe was not cooked -the Walnut bread was not fresh and I object to having butter saved in foil packets straight from the freezer. The starter was raw salmon with mango not very inspiring

Dear Howard, We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your dinner. For information you have to know that the "terrine" that was served as "amuse bouche" was homemade by our cook. Our menu often changes, and we have pay attention on your reflexion about the butter. We absolutly need the feedback of our clients to improve our services. Best regards More

This is an average hotel. It does however have huge rooms and large bathrooms with tubs, with plenty of amenities and fluffy clean towesl. Very comfy beds with nice bed linens. Prices are fair. I believe this hotel is listed with the Relais et Chateaux group. On the hotel building one sees 4 stars, which may have been something awarded... More

Avallon was a stopover on our way back to our home in Italy from the UK ... What a GREAT choice we made. Room 44 was an attic room and was ABSOLUTELY Delightful. It was a superior room so cost slightly more but we felt it was worth it. Very atmospheric and full of character with wooden beams in the... More

We stayed for 5 nights and were given a two room suite at the back of the hotel. It had a bedroom, sitting area and doors out to a private patio. One drawback was that when it was raining we had to walk the entire cobbled passageway to get to the restaurant and breakfast room. I booked the restaurant on... More

A few repairs could be necessary in some rooms. We refused the first room and finally had a 2 store suite (N° 52), very quiet and peaceful. The staff is very nice and helpful, but too small for a **** scored hotel. Avoid absolutely the restaurant : not expensive, the food is really awful and you'll find better menus in... More

Stayed one night in May. Nice little hotel. When you first see the place you know that it has some character and has seen its fair share of guests through the hundreds of years it has been around. The bed room was small but quaint and definitely in a French floral style. There are a few parts that seem a... More
