We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this region of France off season. The fall colors were gorgeous, and the countryside was equally beautiful. Of course, the food, wine, towns, and chateaus are beyond compare. There were absolutely no tourists. People we met were gracious and extremely helpful. This hotel is a little jewel!! It has a wonderful history. World leaders have stayed...

A fascinating place of authentic historical ambiance with a stately decor! The friendly and helpful staff were pleased to answer our questions regarding its rich history where monarchs, generals, and entertainers such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Josephine Baker, Eisenhower and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, lodged in this ideal location as they journeyed to or from southern France and Paris....

Travelling in Burgundy we stayed in this Hotel for three nights. We had the Privileg to sleep in the rooms, Napoleon occupied after his return from Elba. Really nice old chambers, we loved the old furniture and the wallpapers. Bathroom was tall and everthing was absolutley clean! Breakfast was really delicious. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is just in the middle of the Avallon village, walking distance from the church & restaurants. The stuff is extremely nice. Nice big comfortable room. Recommended for young as well as older people.

We had stayed at this hotel on two previous occasions and had very high expectations but we were disappointed. In the past the restaurant had a wonderful a la carte menu but this is no longer the case. Two set menus were on offer both with a very limited choice with absolutely nothing that appealed....and we are not fussy eaters....

My husband and I were travelling with our youngest child, a boy of 12 and he was enthusiastic in his appreciation for the room. The bathroom is stocked with toiletries, there were bathrobes-wow! and the beds were comfortable. The location can't be beat. Staff was friendly, helpful and competent. The brioche at breakfast was out of this world! I'll never...

The excellent served lunched outside was out of a small choice of posibilities, but small portions and very tasted!! The starter with salmon had a very nice sauce and the main dish of meat was well ballanced. The desert was simple, creme brullee, but was home made and had an excellent taste. These three courses for only euro 16,-.

This hotel is in a central location. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was good value, however the dinner, served in a magnificent room, was a little over priced for what it was.

Been staying here en-route to the South of France for the last thirty years. Something of a tradition and we always look forward to the food. In the early years it was pretty much untouched since the time of Napoleon. One guide book put it 'in gentle decline since 1750' which rather appealed, to me at least. In 1994 we...
