For our Christmas holidays this year, we took a trip to France and stayed in a variety of hotels, 7 in total. As we moved from hotel to hotel, there were certain things we focused on the most so I decided to rate them at each hotel. For the Balthazar:

Bathroom (whether had a shower) – yes, very nice bathroom. Our only issue here is that a previous occupant had broken (?!?) the solid plate glass door that led into the toilet so we had no door to the bathroom and they did not tell us this was the case when we checked in which we felt was not very honest behavior. I would have rated the hotel 5 stars but for that. They did eventually give us a small discount on the room.
Lobby – Beautiful and such a nice size. Always happening and people around.
Location in the city or town – Good but on a street that is now dedicated to only buses and cabs so stressful if you are driving yourself.
Size of room – A nice size with plenty of room to love around.
Breakfast – Fabulous
Elevator (was there one?) – Yes and it is much larger than most in France.
Ambiance - Wonderful - we loved this hotel so much except for the whole issue with the no bathroom door. Rooms really nicely appointed.
Lighting - needs more lights in the rooms.

We stayed here to have an easy drive to Mont St. Michel and that worked perfectly.

One night stay on the way to St Malo. Had to change rooms twice due to the noise of the ventilation system but the staff were very friendly and cooperative. The hotel is located on a one way street but you can access by car up to the hotel where the amazing Thibault will park it. In fact Thibault was the highlight of our stay, he fixed any issues that we had with a smile and was extremely gracious. Chloé at the reception desk is also very efficient.

Though small, this is a 5-star hotel with an outstanding staff at all levels.

Our room – one with a petit balcony – was small but well appointed. Robes, great linen’s, well decorated.

Did not eat at their award-winning restaurant. It seemed a little over the top. We did have cocktails in the bar which was very busy.

The valet parking was expensive (€25/night) but worth it when you arrive and you’re tired.

We've stayed one night in this hotel and didn't have the opportunity to use the SPA so I can only review the "hotel" part. The bathroom is nice, the bedroom quite standard. Breakfast was served in the room and was pretty good.
Now for the bad part: we had been offered a night in the hotel from someone else who paid by card and also used a coupon of their own. We were told upon arriving that the payment wasn't successful and that we had to pay ourselves the full price (even without the coupon). We paid cash, didn't get any receipt. After confirming with the person who paid that they were indeed charged, we went back to get our money back. The whole thing looked pretty sketchy, we fortunately were given the cash back but were denied any further commercial gesture. The staff didn't even apologize properly for this and made it sound like it was our fault for changing something at the last minute (which we didn't do). Knowing the price of the night there I'm really shocked about the quality of service we've experienced.

Our first visit to this city and we were very impressed with its beautiful buildings. Hotel is very well presented in a great location. So glad that the hotel offered valet parking. Bedroom was modern but lacked simple things like a 2nd chair and no mirror in the room and no plug in bathroom so to dry hair you must stand up and use glass panel behind coffee facilities. Not ideal. Dinner in the restaurant was good but not very romantic as two large parties made noise levels very loud.

This is a wonderful property in the best location. Spacious room with balcony, huge bathroom, separate toilet area (no sink), valet parking, easy walk to the historic area (full of shopping and restaurants). Perfect base to go to Mont-Saint Michel and Saint-Malo. I used Waze to navigate but keep me going in circles so I called the hotel, they directed me to a safe parking spot and sent the valet to get us. Incredible service! There is shopping and restaurants less than a 5 minute walk (worked out great for crossiants in the morning). The spa was nice too. Must stay in Rennes! The mini bar with water, soft drinks and juice was restocked for free daily.

in an ideal location hard by the city centre, once we'd dropped the car off for the valet parking and been slightly underwhelmed by the busy streetscape, we entered into a quality oasis that had anticipated everything. Helpful and numerous staff, superb room and sound proofing, wonderfully stylish public rooms and a great breakfast. We were only there for a couple of nights so didn't try the Spa or restaurant, but this moderate sized quality hotel could not disappoint. Minutes away from the cental attractions by foot and surrounded by bars and eateries, Rennes itself also surprised in a very positive way. I'd pop it on your list if you're in the area.

Upon arrival we were welcomed by a great team that took every effort to help us. The room was large and clean, the breakfast had a very large choice of quality products and was presented in an original way. I would recommend this hotel if you want to stay at a great hotel in the heart of town.

So much to praise. We had a warm welcome and throughout our stay the staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast is excellent. Our room was comfortable and well-equipped. We very much enjoyed sitting in the bar area; we had some small plates of food there and they were excellent. We didn't eat in the restaurant but that's okay as it's the perfect excuse to stay there again, which we plan to do. It's a great location for exploring Rennes too.

Balthazzar Hotel in Rennes was so good for many reasons . The location is fabulous for exploration on foot ie the historical buildings and beautiful gardens and car accessibility to Mont St Malo and Mont St Michel.
Spa experience was fun and breakfasts were more than adequate .
Our room above the courtyard was spacious, clean and quiet . Bed was very comfortable .
Special bonus was the team of staff who were helpful and friendly.
We really enjoyed our stay here and thank the staff for their hospitality .
