Overall we have a good experience in Le Grand. We had a lovely family suite with two connected rooms that proved perfect for our needs. During the hot July, our room stayed cool and comfortable. The service was welcoming, and the location of the hotel was perfect. So much so that the shortcomings below felt manageable. The breakfast at Le Grand could be improved. At least for our week, the breakfast room was unpleasantly hot and getting fried eggs or omelettes was a pain. Alongside a cold buffet, a single chef tried desperately to meet customer orders. We had to wait in a confused queue to place orders and check back to see if they were ready. Given the hotel's standard, eggs should be served at the tables. We chose to have breakfast served in our room for a couple of days instead. The pool is small but grand, and we loved it. However, the hotel apparently limits children's access at certain times to secure peaceful relaxation in the spa area. We were not informed of it in advance and got turned back on our last day. Such a rule feels random for a child very capable of quiet enjoyment.…
This was a well located hotel. The check in staff were courteous and kind and as a IHG Ambassador they upgraded me. The hotel restaurants are great. The decor is rather dated but the beds are very comfortable. I would say the pool is great if you are an adult but not something you can bring young kids to due to disapproving looks from stern looking older guests. My only complaint is that I spent a long time trying to get my parents in law allocated to a room that didn't involve steps as my father in law has a heart condition. Initially we were allocated 417. We spent a long time on the phone with them and they promised us a room on the fourth floor by the elevators and no steps. And then we found they had allocated them to a completely different room (419) which involved lots and lots of steps. I am not sure what happened but it blighted an otherwise great stay. Make sure you get a reservation to the 2* Michelin restaurant on the first floor well in advance. It is definitely worth it. There are two other restaurants at the hotel (Comptoir and Bordeaux) and both were reasonably good, though there are so many other restaurants in bordeaux I would go out exploring.…
It was obvious even as the taxi (a Euro 25 ride from the train station) pulled up to the hotel that it was a grand one indeed that too in a prime location. Our exploration of the neighborhood confirmed that later. It's right opposite the Opera House. We happened to stay over the Summer Solstice, when we, standing on the hotel steps, were treated to a clear view of a concert by the opera house. The hotel borders the main drag, Rue Sainte Catherine with a multitude of shops & eateries. The area felt very safe. From the moment we entered the hotel, it was clear that they were a classy establishment focused on service. The room was wonderful exuding old world charm. We had a suite with 2 rooms separated by a door. Toiletries were world class as were all the amenities such as in-room coffee & tea, robes, & turn down service. Bottled water is complimentary. Breakfast was fairly extensive with made to order eggs & pancakes, and a buffet with bread, desserts, cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt, fruits etc. The wait staff were very attentive, particularly Carla & Anastasia. They took good care of us, and, since we stayed 3 nights, got to know us & our preferences. Cappucino is available on request. They had a hot chocolate drink that was out of this world. All in all a very enjoyable stay!…
This hotel is gorgeous outside and in. We had a one bedroom suite. My husband has a bad back and bed was supremely comfortable for both of us. The room was large for European standards especially and two separate bathrooms was a luxury. Top notch service at this hotel. And situated perfectly in the bordeaux town. Across from the opera house. Walking distance from nearly everything and the tram stop just outside. We were not able to achieve a reservation at the Gordon Ramsey restaurant there but no matter - there are a ton of fabulous restaurants in the area.
This is a beautiful hotel, right in the city centre. The staff are so helpful and friendly. They couldn't do enough for you. Bedroom, food and roof top garden excellent. I would highly recommend staying here.
Had a wonderful stay at the InterContinental Le Grand Hotel! The location is most ideal, in a city center square right across from the Opera house. The hotel is beautiful, and staff is top notch! My hotel of choice when in Bordeaux!
We booked what was billed as a spacious Junior Suite (45 square meters) as pictured on the hotel website. Sadly, the room was wholly unsatisfactory. A tiny bedroom, a tiny sitting area separated by a door, and most of the square footage described in the hotel website devoted to 8!!!! (YES, EIGHT) full length closets, and two very long corridors. This room felt like a rabbit warren. Furthermore, every surface in the room is jammed with stuff, leaving no space whatever for our personal items. So unless you plan to fully unpack your luggage, there is barely any space to keep a suitcase handy. The bathrooms also suffer from an odd and impractical layout. There are two separate toilets, plus a separate shower/vanity and tub/vanity, located in four different rooms along the corridors. Very confusing. Plus the tub controls cannot be reached unless you step into the tub due to the glass surround. The hotel does enjoy a beautiful location with fantastic views of the opera, and very polite and helpful staff.…
We actually went to the rooftop bar and the view was spectacular. Service and the staff were very good and food delicious. It was little tired though even as a beautiful, old building it perhaps needs a little revamping on the inside. The roof top bar is only open seasonally I believe
Le Bordeaux has long been an institution in the city of Bordeaux and it's not hard to know why - it's proper old school glamorous, gloriously comfortable, fabulously historic with terrific restaurants and a super spa. You could probably spend several days without leaving the hotel and be happy, excellent restaurants, bar, tea room - but of course you'd miss out on the many wonders of Bordeaux, so you wouldn't do that - though it did cross my mind! Lovely staff, slept like a baby, ate like a king and enjoyed every single second of my stay.
We (2 couples) just returned from a holiday in Spain and France. We spent 2 nights at the Intercontinental and are sorry to offer a mixed report. The hotel is located in a beautiful old square and it's perfectly situated. Upon arrival, there was a mob scene in the small lobby and the staff was completely overwhelmed. Our rooms were not ready (not a problem) but there was nowhere to store our bags and they were left out in the open by the concierge stand. When I complained I was told they were being guarded (they were not!). Speaking of the concierge - the staff was helpful and well meaning. They arranged a fantastic wine tasting tour for us in St. Emilion - great driver, perfect tour of 3 vineyards and great lunch. This was very well done. Our room and bathroom were TINY, dark and faced an adjacent building. Definitely request a room facing the front. We were told none were available. The rooms are clean but they are in real need of a facelift. They are old and tired looking. The breakfast and breakfast room were really wonderful. Huge selection of every item one could want. There is a roof top bar which is highly advertised but in actuality it's mediocre. Great view, but the small space fills up quickly and the staff was overwhelmed and the service was poor. The front desk staff was kind and helpful but also quite overwhelmed over the weekend (they were better during the week when things quieted down). I've stayed at Intercontinentals all over the world and I'm sorry to say that Bordeaux does not rate to the high standards that the others do. It is well located and has great bones so I really do hope someone renovates it and turns it into the grand dame it deserves to be.…
