We stayed at the Macdonald Manchester Hotel for one night in a two double bed room. First off, the parking. It was near impossible to find the parking at the hotel and we ended up driving past 4 times before we were able to find it. When we did, we saw Travis Street parking at a fraction of the cost (£6.20 for 24 hours, as compared to £25 at the hotel car park), and stayed there instead. We arrived after a 12 hour journey at 4.30pm to find out that our room wasn't ready. The receptionist offered us a drink at the bar while we waited, which was nice, but after such a long journey all we wanted to do was get to our room, shower and relax. When we eventually did get to our room after 5.20pm, it wasn't cleaned properly (stains on carpet, surfaces dirty), and the shower rail was broken off the wall. It was clear that someone had a party there the night before. The room in general was also well worn, with all the furniture scuffed and in need of replacement, and the carpet was around 1 inch from the wall in places. It didn't look like the pictures at all, no nice blankets on the bed or any colour in the room (pictures etc). The beds were also small doubles (thought all hotels had king beds these days?) and we couldn't fit. The mister ended up sleeping with the child so as to fit in the bed (we aren't massive, I swear!). On the plus side, the bathroom was really nice (other than the shower rail), and was much more luxurious than the rest of the room. The breakfast was also very nice, good quality, buffet, and lots of choices. We were seated and served quickly by the staff. The receptionist staff were also excellent, very polite and professional and dealt with the situation promptly and professionally.

Have stayed at this hotel a number of times over the years since it opened. Never once disappointed. Check in took some time but were greeted by a very cheerful receptionist who put me immediately at ease. Covid-19 restrictions were well advertised, although not exactly observed by some guests. Lifts are for one person or party, which came as some sort of surprise to a number of guests despite the notifications both inside and outside the lifts themselves. Room was not as well appointed as it usually is, I am assuming this is due to the pandemic. Examples were, no drinking glasses in the bathroom and a lack of usual paraphernalia in the room such as the “Welcome to Manchester” guides etc. However, a not unpleasant weekend away in Manchester supplemented by the fantastic weather and fantastic air conditioning in the hotel. Always the first choice Manchester hotel, will definitely be back.

Room Tip: I would avoid having to ask questions at reception during busy times. Queues quite oppressive.

This was a disappointing stay for the money paid. We had a family room which consisted of two double beds. The pillows had protectors inside which is understandable but the slightest movement caused you to wake owing to the noise. We only had our bedding changed on the night before we left and we were there for seven nights. The decor had old sellotape stuck to the walls above the large windows and above the beds, where it had been removed it had left marks. We consistently had to ask for more towels as we had only two bath and one hand for three people, only on two days did we have enough. English Breakfast tea must have been in short supply as again we had to ask on numerous occasions for more which never materialised on most days. In the end we went to the supermarket and bought our own. The furniture in our room was tired and the hotel is in need of an update. Breakfast was very good but the tables were badly marked and stained which was very off putting. Chairs were not dusted off after people had used them so remnants of food had to be swept off before you could sit down safely. There are so many things that need to change to warrant a four star status, as it stands now it is only three star at best.

Just spent a lovely evening here with my wife, as someone who works in hospitality I know how much hard work goes into a hotel like this. The staff are so very nice and welcoming from reception to the bar and especially the breakfast staff, our room was very large clean and had great facilities including a bath and a shower. Drinks were a reasonable price for a city hotel like this. The star of the stay was the breakfast, the service and welcome is very good and the food was very tasty (the bacon was much better than your standard hotel bacon) my wife ordered veggie sausages and that was no problem at all. Location and parking are good and I would highly recommend the Macdonald Hotel!

Staying here as part of a weekend break with our kids. We were given a room on the 6th floor, the room was dirty with soiled carpets, hair on the floor, food debris all over the room. When complained we were given a different room which was even worse with carpet gripper pins being exposed. We declined and asked our room to be cleaned as we could not find alternative accommodation straight away. We were given a free drink on the house while the room was being cleaned. Not 4 star at all! Below standard. Avoid!
