...The welcome was not personal, cold in fact, room not ready, ‘we don’t guarantee, go somewhere else and come back’ One member of staff basically shouting at some Japanese guests that they had not booked the right breakfast option, in front of house... Shown to room but told we may not take this route in the future, think yourselves lucky!... The room is in need of an update, there is mould growing on the silicone in the bathroom and the suite is very aged... ...The return for our anniversary this July was flagged up with the hotel well in advance and we were looking forward to another personal and happy stay; at over £430 for our one night stay in a cottage, that should have been possible, another £275 spent on treatments at the Spa; just one night, a lot of money... The menu was severely limited (not the one on show on reception) inflated in price and very disappointing... On checkout, we were not asked about our stay, just presented with the bill... We were really disappointed that the team at CHH had let us down on a very important date for us and cannot understand the market the hotel is looking to attract or how they justify such charges...

...Bearing in mind that this is an expensive boutique hotel spa, it wasn’t the best first impression... There wasn’t a single lounger free around the pool, there wasn’t a chill out room, the only option I was offered (when asking, no-one bothered to approach) was to return to the single room with a massage bed with unchanged, oily sheets on it and sit on there... Bearing in mind I was a hotel guest who had booked in advance and paid for a treatment, I genuinely couldn’t believe this... It was such a shame and although I’d consider the hotel again, I feel rinsed by the spa and would never go back...

...We did receive help with our luggage to our suite. The hot tub was ready and working on arrival... No instructions for the hot tub given just told to press programme button... Breakfast - We requested breakfast to be delivered to the ‘suite’ and ordered via the form... If you are an electric car driver and you are relying on the car chargers working or receiving any help to get them working I would not stay at this hotel... I advised front of house of the issue on the day of arrival and was simply told to keep trying all 3 chargers and keep plugging and unplugging... This was a fourth return visit, so we have had really good experiences, including a most magical wedding here, back in the days of Karl and Michael and a wonderful caring team at CHH... The welcome was not personal, cold in fact, room not ready, ‘we don’t guarantee, go somewhere else and come back’ One member of staff basically shouting at some Japanese guests that they had not booked the right breakfast option, in front of house... The same member of staff barking us through to the ‘Bistro’ for some lunch... Asked if perhaps they might offer a smashed avocado and poached egg breakfast (this was at 6pm) for the morning; ‘we don’t have avocado’... We ate at the wonderful Greek restaurant just a little down the road and the contrast in staff and treatment was marked; lovely welcome, fabulous food... This was after some pretty so-so spa treatments, however, the staff were all friendly and welcoming at the Spa... On arrival in reception for breakfast, reception did not look up or acknowledge us, we had to ask where to go...

Mandy and her team went above and beyond to ensure the day went as smooth as possible and the day couldn’t have gone any better... We couldn’t have wished for a better day and with your help it exceeded all of our expectations...

...What a lovely hotel made especially lovely by the very attentive, if over stretched staff... The room was very generous in size and the bed was large and incredibly comfortable... Large, a lovely large bath and shower with lots of power and hot water...

We have been at this hotel over a year ago and it was so so much better than this time around, when my wife booked she mentioned it was our 34 wedding anniversary. The first issue started by receiving an email with the wrong information so she called back and the receptionist fixed the problem and resend the correct one and at the same time she booked the first night dinner for 8pm as we explained that we may arrive a bit later due to traffic etc... upon arrival we checked in and she was told that the table was booked at 7pm and not at 8pm as we specifically advised, once again they managed to fix their mistake but they just cause really stressful arrival at this point the weekend that should be our anniversary rapidly turned into a disappointment and concern... Second day we turned into the restaurant for dinner as previously booked with what we believe to be either head waiter/manager to seat at the same table witch was confirmed twice by the same guy, however the girl hosting our arrival had not a clue what she was doing not many bookings in but she was almost telling me of that we never booked because it wasn’t showing on her List...

Well run hotel with nice garden, large rooms and an airy breakfast room... Breakfast was good, cooked to your order with gluten free options and you can state any allergens on a form which you fill in your choices and time the night before... The staff were friendly and helpful and there is a bar though a few other local pubs to choose from (Eight Bells served good beer and the menu looked nice and the Volunteer at the other end of town was more sporty but with an excellent curry house next door)...

...We visited for a champagne afternoon tea and informed the hotel at the point of booking that I had a nut allergy. On arrival the nut allergy was acknowledged by a member of staff and we were seated in a quiet, quite dark room away from the busier main room in which a saxophone player was playing, which was a bit of a shame as there were free tables in the room and it looked like it had a bit more atmosphere... We were shown a selection box of teas to choose from and then brought our tea and coffee... A waiter then delivered the afternoon tea tray and quite awkwardly tried to place it down on top of several things already on the table... We stopped a passing waitress to ask again and she was very knowledgeable and politely explained exactly what we had been given and reassured us that nothing contained nuts... We had been given a selection of sandwiches, fruit and plain scones with jam and cream, lemon posset topped with berries, red velvet choux buns, carrot cake and coffee and chocolate cake... Everything was fresh and delicious and once we had eaten we were given our glasses of champagne... We felt the food was excellent and the waitress we spoke to was lovely but the attention from some staff was quite lacking... We noticed a young waiter who was looking after other tables and he was very polite and friendly and it’s a shame not all the staff have been trained to this level... If you have a good allergy, I would certainly recommend this hotel as they kept me safe and I felt they took my allergies seriously...

My fiancé booked a night away in a hot tub suite for my birthday. We also used the spa and had a massage each... I will start by saying the massage was one of the best I’ve had and Sylvia was very professional... The spa itself was very small and you were only allowed 1 hour and 30 minutes to use the facilities... We had a cooked breakfast each in the morning which was very disappointing... The poached egg was rock hard, the toast was cold and the breakfast itself was served lukewarm... We asked for sauces and they never arrived, I would understand if it was busy but there were only 4 other tables dining...

In celebration for our 40th wedding anniversary, our eldest son treated my wife and myself to an afternoon tea which we booked at the Cotswold House Hotel in Chipping Campden in October. Although I'm type 2 diabetic (my wife isn't) I didn't want to miss out on the occasion's treat so I asked in advance if they could possibly do a 'savoury' afternoon tea for myself and a regular one for my better half... I knew I wouldn't get a totally glucose free treat but I was delighted and totally blown away by the lengths they went to for me... I had my own 3 tier tray with thin bread savoury sandwiches, special sausage rolls, vegetable samosa, stuffed olives, savoury rye and wheat crackers with two generous top-notch cheeses along with a low sugar scone with clotted cream... My other half had her own regular afternoon tea as well and we had gallons of quality tea to go with it... They worked really hard to accommodate me and it was brilliant treat for us both!!... A big well done to the kitchen and serving staff there (:))...

Good things: room pleasant, front of house staff lovely, food lovely, restaurant and bar staff superb... I didn’t get his name but the Polish gentleman running the restaurant/bar was a delight and just so helpful and attentive... On arrival at the spa, the reception staff were playing a loud video on a mobile phone and giggling... I then got served and was told that there were no robes at all and I’d have to walk around in my swimwear... I was handed a small, hard towel that I could wrap around my waist... The therapist was pleasant, I think her name was Linda... After the massage she tried to find me a robe and couldn’t and was very apologetic... Despite being sent a long email by the spa prior to arrival about the capped numbers allowed in there due to it being small, this clearly wasn’t being followed that day...

...We had two bottles of water in our fridge, but our friends who stayed in the room next door only had 1… so when we returned from the wedding, they had to share one bottle between them... Don’t have an issue with paying a charge if we have been provided with a service- we weren’t paying £27 for someone to carry our bags to the room... Staff were friendly, but massively overpriced and very disappointing!...

...The restaurant staff really let the hotel down, very inefficient, no customer service, unenthusiastic, rude, untrained and one girl inpaticular was unkempt with some disgusting habits. The Spa staff seemed lazy leaving dirty towels and gowns on the loungers long after guests had left the spa... I get the feeling that the staff know that they are providing a poor service as even the receptionist didn't ask how our stay was when we checked out... On a positive note the food was very nice and far better than you would expect after the diabolical service... The other staff are really letting the chefs down...

...Pros - The hotel is well situated for exploring the Cotswolds and the gardens are lovely... We did receive help with our luggage to our suite... The hot tub was ready and working on arrival... Cons I booked a package which included a food and drinks allowance... No instructions for the hot tub given just told to press programme button... According to the website this is a ‘tranquil suite with a ‘roaring’ log fire perfect for when you need a little extra indulgence’ but apparently only if you visit at the right time... Breakfast - We requested breakfast to be delivered to the ‘suite’ and ordered via the form... We (wrongly) made the assumption we would be given some cold buffet items also or at least asked whether we would like tea or coffee with our breakfast...

My friend and I had a spa day today and the Spa itself is good. We had a warm welcome from professional staff... Went today (Tuesday 11 July 23) for a Champagne Tea for Two. We found all staff extremely friendly and helpful especially the person overseeing our food and drink who was charming... The food served (sandwiches, cakes and scones) were all very fresh and tasty and were served on a lovely silver cake stand... The champagne served when we arrived set the scene for the fine afternoon tea... The choice of various loose teas served with the food was a really nice idea and the tea, milk, sugar and tea strainers were all served from a beautiful silver tea Service set... All in all a wonderful experience and one that we would highly recommend...

...We stayed 2 nights in a top floor room (21) Parking was no issue and there was a warm welcome and help with luggage... Spacious bedroom and en-suite (big bath with shower over, would have preferred a large standalone shower)... Plenty of tea and coffee (kettle provided, not a coffee machine)... Dinner in the hotel’s restaurant was enjoyable, good quality (although the cheese soufflé wasn’t great); good service... However on the second day (Sunday) it was the opposite and perfectly ok and great service... Chipping Campden is a lovely small town with a few shops etc, ideally located for visiting other places in this part of the Cotswolds...

...The return for our anniversary this July was flagged up with the hotel well in advance and we were looking forward to another personal and happy stay; at over £430 for our one night stay in a cottage, that should have been possible, another £275 spent on treatments at the Spa; just one night, a lot of money... The same member of staff barking us through to the ‘Bistro’ for some lunch...

I was slightly nervous, as a few online reviews seemed to be a bit hit and miss... however, our experience was one of wonderful staff, a really delightful hotel, excellent location and amenities. A really lovely hotel in a charming Cotswolds village... We paid extra for a superior room and it was very, very nice... Large room with a massive bathroom with bath and shower on the top floor... Extremely comfy large bed... Chaise lounge, desk for working, fireplace etc... Breakfast was delicious, nice to be able to pre book the cooked breakfast in advance... Staff very friendly and accommodating and helped my pregnant wife with her bags when we arrived... The spa was also very nice and relaxing, lovely hydrotherapy pool and steam room... Not cheap, but we wanted to pay a bit extra for somewhere nice and that's what we got...

Three of us had booked a spa day as a treat... We were not shown around the spa and had to work out how to turn the hot tub on by asking other guests... No one came to check the spa area for the 4 hours we were there... If the receptionist was not told by a guest the steam room would not have been turned on... We all had the hot stone full body massage... My mum and step sister said they had fantastic treatments and could not fault them... We asked for something light to eat whilst at the spa as we had a long time before our cream tea... When asked the spa receptionist was not sure if we could get these and had to “check”... We did get something to eat but it felt that this was making the staff go out of their way to do so... We asked to upgrade to the full afternoon tea... Sadly we felt we paid a lot for our spa day and this was not reflected in the service...

Well run hotel with nice garden, large rooms and an airy breakfast room. The car park is at the back (noticed it had a Tesla charger) on appropriately named Back Ends by the Spa which we didn’t have time to use (and you need to book a time)... The room (#1) was large and on two levels and though the bathroom had a bath/shower rather than a shower enclosure was very pleasant overall with a comfortable bed... Breakfast was good, cooked to your order with gluten free options and you can state any allergens on a form which you fill in your choices and time the night before... The staff were friendly and helpful and there is a bar though a few other local pubs to choose from (Eight Bells served good beer and the menu looked nice and the Volunteer at the other end of town was more sporty but with an excellent curry house next door)... ...This hotel is in a great location on the high street, it’s lovely to have the option to eat in many different cafes, pubs & restaurants within a short walk. The hotel is warm & cosey, the rooms are comfortable & interesting but could do with some TLC... The spa is small, quiet & incredibly clean... We were given nice robes, slippers & slippers... The facilities are limited to a small pool & steam room, the sun loungers & environment was lovely though... But the pub had lovely open fires & would be lovely for drinks... Overall a reasonably priced stay, in a comfortable boutique hotel in a great location... The spa is a nice additional extra...

A charming receptionist, showed us to room 17, very comfortable, spacious , with a large en-suite, very well equipped and stylishly decorated... Stayed summer of 2022 - Avoid Room 7 - worst mattress and pillows EVER. Complained and the Manager supposedly found nothing wrong with them - we felt like we were falling into the center of the bed and pillows had zero life. We live in the states and always love touring the Cotswolds. Absolute thumbs down for this place......mainly because they couldn't 'admit' how bad it was. Had they done that and said they were resolving, id not leave such a review.

Response from Michael Obray, General Manager at Cotswold House Hotel & Spa
Responded 6 days ago
Hello Vintageclass, All of our beds are high quality which means we usually get 5/5 for comfort and cleanliness. Therefore this is certainly not the usual feedback and as your post comes a good few months after any stay it will be difficult for me to track back. In that time we must have sold that same room countless times without any further feedback of the bed being faulty or uncomfortable. If it was I assure we would take immediate action to resolve it. Also, as the General Manager this is the first I have heard of this feedback so I am wondering if you have the right hotel? If so the please do contact me directly on gm@cotswoldhouse.com and I will ensure we resolve your dissatisfaction directly. With best wishes, Michael

We had the absolute best wedding day at Cotswold House Hotel. Mandy and the team did everything they could to ensure the whole day ran smoothly, they went above and beyond and we couldn't have asked for more. The setting itself is stunning and you honestly couldnt find better in the Cotswolds, but what really sets them appart is the attention to detail and generosity of spirit from all the staff. Everything from the incredible food, to their help with decorating and packing up and even making sure we didn't accidently see eachother before the ceremony. This venue really has it right! We were treated like King and Queen throughout our stay and really what more could you ask for your wedding? If you're thinking of booking a stay here or even just a meal, everything is superb! The bedding, the menu, the staff. Couldnt recommended more highly!!! Thank you so much to Mandy and all the team, we will never forget how well you looked after us and all our guests.

Just arrived back after a wonderful long weekend away at the Cotswold House Hotel & Spa in the very picturesque Chipping Campden. I booked the Longborough Suite (The hot tub suite) for my partners birthday weekend. What a fantastic room, perfect for us and our pup (all 45kg of him). I’d booked us in for two nights and we booked an extra night on second night in, because we were having such a lovely time. The hotel is beautiful. The room was spot on, especially if you’re traveling with a dog. We ate at The Fig restaurant on the Saturday evening, with fantastic food, wine and service. With special thanks to Johan who served us that evening. The reception staff were all very welcoming and helpful. I’m sure I put them to the test a few times trying to organise the perfect weekend away, but most grateful for their help. We both had massages at the spa, which were very relaxing. The spa itself is well managed to ensure it doesn’t get too busy at peak times. The town is just so pretty. Conscious of how many times I’ve said lovely and beautiful. We ate out at a few places around the town, with pup (mentioned above). This is one of the most dog friendly places we’ve visited. If you’re wanting to travel with your dog, I couldn’t recommend highly enough. Would love to come back at Christmas to see how it all looks with all the pretty Christmas lights. We will be returning. We love to travel and very experienced travelers to some great hotels . I really cannot understand anyone who might have a negative review. In our opinion, if you are looking for a weekend away in the Cotswolds, this is the place to go!

After staying in the hotel a year ago we were so pleased with the elegance and courtesy / experience we wanted to share with visitors from US. But oh boy has it changed. The hotel put us in cottage 40 at £250.00 plus for one night. In known to us there was an up stairs room where guests stomped continuously. So it was like being under a thunder storm. The menus now is in plastic covers like in a pub . Hard to read with the glare of over head lights. The £32.00 sirloin steak was tough and tasteless. The £33.00 bottle of wine was corked and had to be refused. The eggs Benedict was served hard on a cold plate . I need to share this in case you’re wanting to interest to treat someone special. It’s a real shame as las visit made us. One back .

Spa half day - road closures meant car park difficult to find and hotel reception didn't have a map of reroute nor manage to tell us that as long as you don't park on the market square you can street park for free. We hadn't needed to spend 20 mins parking! Treatments really excellent but be warned, they'll let you purchase an away day package which, if you want to add treatments costs more than booking separately. Spa facilities in need of update (tiny changing room, mouldy ceiling tiles & wet recliner cushions round pool) apparently this work is planned. Bistro food (included in away day package) - took well over 30 mins to arrive and was one star max (old bag of salad with slimy leaves and duck spring roll which contained minced meat of indeterminate flavour) plus wasted pool/steam room time waiting arrival. After 3 phone calls and leaving 2 messages requesting manager call me, she hadn't but I got through 6 days later. Manager not really bothered, said we could return to sit by the pool when the refurbishment was done which would not be worth 2 hrs driving and 100 miles of petrol. Tho did refund the food. (£15) So - 5 star treatments with 2 star service and 1 star food.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Staff were super friendly and helpful from the outset. On arrival at the spa, both myself and my husband had a treatment pre booked. The spa was super clean, and staff were very accommodating. The massage was amazing, very relaxing and lasted for the full 30 minutes. I had a facial with a lovely therapist called Valerie, she was so attentive and extremely knowledgeable. She talked me through each step of my treatment, and explained what she was doing. She showed me the products she had used at the end, and her thorough and professional manner was exceptional. A truly lovely lady, who made my day very special. Thank you. The food at the hotel was beautiful, good size portions and very hot. All in all the hotel is lovely with some quirky features, it’s a listed building with plenty of character. Thank you to all staff, you made us feel welcome and special.

Nice looking hotel and staff in general, needs attention in many areas considering rated 4 star....... if you book a room with a feature bath for a birthday it really isn't appealling looking at awful peeling window seels, light bulbs missing above and patches of unpainted wall. Bed and bedding was lovely and comfortable, lovely sized room and bathroom, room very cold from drafts at the French doors. Lovely view from the pretty balcony. Restaurant: the wait for main course and breakfast was ridiculously long, it seemed the norm as no one apologized and all tables had very long waits between courses. Staff nice, food in the evening was beautiful the flavours were absolutely lovely! The cooked breakfast was extremely small, and after waiting 40 minutes for it, it was served cold ......when it came back from being reheated it was minus the baked beans so had I to wait again while my partner ate. 1 small vegetarian sausage is pretty stingy considering how small the entire serving was. Luckily there is also cereals and toast to fill up on. Spa: Small but pleasant spa area, had a surprise birthday treatment with add on treatment booked for 45 minutes, this was a 30 min facial and a 15 min scalp massage. My therapist wasn't wearing a therapist tunic which made her look like the cleaner as she didn't match the rest of the therapists. It was discussed that my 15 minute scalp massage would be incorporated into my facial, I clarified that it would still be a 45 minute treatment which the therapist replied yes. so I expected a 10/15 min facial massage and then the 15 min scalp massage in-between , cleanse, tone, exfoliation, masque and moisturizer. I have neve had or carried out a facial that doesn't go below the jaw line, dellocota'ge, neck and shoulders are always cleansed toned and massaged etc it felt very clinical and not 'hands on" and relaxing. My face massage didn't even last 5 mins and only incorporated a couple of face strokes either side which is the most relaxing part of the facial, to top it off the masque was applied in a frequent dabbing motion all over my face like dot to dot with the therapist fingers instead of slow sweeping movements with a brush or spatula, it was very irritating and in no way relaxing. .....Then the treatment finished after 35 minutes not 45.........so basically the facial massage had been cut short and replaced with scalp massage which was as a added treatment at added cost by my partner as a birthday treat. Very disappointed that the service from the therapist was this poor. I'm a beauty therapist of 20 years so am trained and very aware of correct treatments and product application. Once I had left the room I notified the therapist on reception that my treatment was not the full time frame and she said she would sort it out. The added treatment was removed from my partner's bill but I still didn't receive the treatment in full which as it was a present and part of a relaxing birthday weekend it spoilt the overall feel of the place.

The hotel itself is lovely, most staff are friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are outdated and need a refurbishment asap. E.g USB ports etc. The bathroom too with a leaky shower screen and patches of maintenance work. Food was ok and well presented although we’ve had better for similar prices. The spa was amazing but we were disappointed to learn we could only use it for 2 hours as a hotel guest. The massage completed by Carol was personal to needs and very relaxing. Thank you Cotswold House and Spa, we’re glad we’ve visited such a lovely town in Chipping Campden!

We had a wonderful experience at the hotel. We decided to use up our vouchers on food and drinks. These didn’t let us down. We had a lovely walk around Chipping Campden. We had passed many a time and never stopped to visit. A beautiful town worth the time spent. My husband had to work for a few hours from the room, the heating was not working and it was bitterly cold. That was the only real thing that let the hotel down. Will definitely be back to enjoy the atmosphere and lovely people of Campden. I do recommend
