Lovely check in. Went down to the 'cocktail bar' attached. It was dire. They were using MDF as a chopping board for the fruit. They had no grapefruit for my gin. The lad with the floppy hair was nice and very apologetic. The room was lovely and the single serving products were top notch. I asked a few directions of... More

I booked a cocktail masterclass for a hen party recently at the Merchant Bar and it was fantastic! We had the whole top section the bar to ourselves which was great for cocktails making, drinking and dancing! The package was great value as we got welcome bucks fizz on arrival and then the cocktail making commenced. We also got nibbles... More

My aunt and I walked in on a Saturday lunchtime hoping to find a good meal in pleasant surroundings where we could sit and reminisce over happy times. The entire restaurant was empty at 1pm, which we thought would not bode well. However, the young man who looked after us assured us that they were fully-booked later in the afternoon,... More

Recently refurbished. Accommodation lovely. Right in the town centre so was a bit noisy at night. Hot weather so the rooms were hot. Food was well presented and enjoyable. The staff are what set this hotel apart. They were the most helpful, approachable and friendly staff and they made this stay a really good experience. Highly recommended.

We have eater here several times before - both during it previous management and during its conversion and upgrading, and subsequently being taken over by Mercure. I had "The Works", a burger concoction with burnt, dry and very overcooked burgers, which took over 30 minutes to prepare and serve. Service was unbelievably slow, although the staff were friendly enough.

My friend and I decided to try lunch here as I'd read lots of good reviews on TripAdvisor. We were seated by a lovely waitress who was very attentive in Anthony's Restaurant. I chose nachos to start but was soon informed they had no sour cream and would I like garlic mayo instead. As they still had guacamole I decided... More
