We always offer the best prices to our guests direct through hotel reception so be sure to call us first. Fantastic all round venue in a central location, ideal for weddings and functions, everything under one roof. In the heart of the historic city of Lancaster, with views of its famous castle, stands the Royal Kings Arms Hotel. Originally built in 1625 and later rebuilt in 1879, the hotel was immortalized by Charles Dickens in his tale of "The Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices". This Grade II listed hotel has 55 comfortable en-suite bedrooms, including the luxury Castle Suite, with its four poster bed and views of the castle, the entrance to which is just 50 yards away. With origins dating back almost 1,000 years Lancaster Castle, a Grade 1 listed building, occupies a city-centre hilltop location on the site of three successive Roman forts and has been described by English Heritage as "not only the North-West's most important historic and archaeological monument but also of international importance". Other historic buildings in Lancaster include the Judge's Lodgings and the Doll Museum. The sea plays a big part in Lancaster's history and the Maritime Museum is a fascinating place to visit. Beyond the city, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach, while the seaside resorts of Morecambe and Blackpool are a short drive away. Breakfast is available when checking in at reception, we do have car parking facilities at £5 per car per stay at the rear of the hotel.

Reception area looks like a 5 star hotel. This ends as soon as you leave the lobby. Rooms tired and shabby. Took 15 mins for lukewarm water to come through in the evening. Quicker in the morning but never got hotter than tepid. Guest lift tiny and antiquated. Family had to take

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I am glad that you liked our refurbished reception area. This is the standard that will soon be carried out throughout the hotel, and has been done through a large proportion of rooms on the second floor. These rooms are available for a small upgrade fee, and also possess front facing views. I am sorry to hear about our misunderstanding with the starters, and am disappointed that you didn't find the food amazing, that is not the standard we strive to achieve. We like to make sure we do everything we can to ensure our guests have an enjoyable stay, so in future if you do return and have any concerns, please voice them and we will do everything in our best efforts to resolve them. I hope you would consider returning to us to give us the chance to change your opinion on the hotel. Kind regards, Megan at reception

Having only stayed at the hotel overnight, we had a lovely welcome from staff and so handy having parking at the hotel, which is very rare in a city centre. We had a room on second floor which hasn’t yet been rebufurbished, but was very satisfactory considering the work that is

Dear Fran, Thank you for your fantastic review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Sincere apologies again for the disturbance in the early hours of the morning but we are glad that you will be returning! We keep the lighting low in the Crypt to help keep the atmosphere in there. You'll be pleased to know that we do have some menu lights, so next time you visit please just ask the staff and they will be more than happy to help! Best Regards, Amy at Reception

We had a family room which had been recently refurbished. It was excellent, the bathroom was lovely. The room was at the rear of the hotel so was very quiet. The hotel is minutes from the station and the centre of town.

When will the renovations be complete?
Hello, Yes our refurbishments are on going, however the work being done in the entrance will be completed in the next couple of weeks, the workmen will then be going to the second floor, they will be then out of everyone's way. The total hotel refurbishment will take approximately 12 months, but as said once they leave the entrance way they will be out of everyone's way. i hope this helps. Kind regards Georgia Evans.
