Stayed here for two nights in the summer. Staff are ok but could be more friendly. The whole building is old and shabby and could do with being refurbished. The lift is ridiculous and they just need a proper one. Our room was small and again shabby and old but clean. It has a car park which is one of... More

I booked a room here for a couple of nights, when I'd chosen to have a short city break in Lancaster. I found it on a late bookings website, the price was very reasonable, and from the maps it appeared ideally located. This was certainly true, it was close to the centre of town, the station, and attractions like Lancaster... More

OK: so this place has seen better days, but it still has bags of charm and is far more interesting for its foibles than some stamped-out-of-a-mould chain offering. Room was pretty average in terms of facilities but warm, comfortable and clean with a good bathroom. Breakfast was copious, varied and tasty: friendly service in wonderful surroundings. Staff, if sometimes a... More

When we arrived here the young guy was actually asleep behind the desk, which was a good start, it was only around 5pm! We then had to swap rooms as had no cold water and it was like a sauna when we walked in. When I went to tell him about the problem he looked very confused and I actually... More

Not everything about this hotel would i describe a negative experience. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly and the food was good. The price i paid for my stay was suitable for the accomodation but i think we paid for the convenient location to be honest. I was very dissatisfied with my rooms which were worse for wear and... This made a convenient stop off the M6 but is also in the centre of Lancaster so close to railway station, shops and restaurants. There is inexpensive secure parking and 24 hour reception so a 1am arrival was not a problem. The room was clean and warm with a comfortable bed but decor was very dated. There was some noise... Poor reviews pushed us to try this hotel and we weren't disappointed. Convenient and clean, we delicately sidestepped the buckets feeling they added character to this lovely old and historic hotel (Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins stayed there in the 19th Century.) For sure the hotel has seen better days and needs a lot of money spent on it but... More
