We spent another great weekend in this hotel in August. I love this place and have stayed here about 5 or 6 times. Yes its in need of some repair, which Shane, the manager says is underway, if you look past that it is a lovely old impressive hotel (that Chardles Dickens once stayed in). Staff are really friendly, breakfast... More

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and can honestly said we had a ball, big thank you to Shane the manager, Damian and Louise for making our stay so pleasant. We will certainly be returning soon. Central position close to the Station, Castle and shopping precinct.Hotel also offers car parking £5 per stay.

RKA Management who in the Lancaster Guardian were going to be refurbishing this hotel are in liquidation if that helps understand why the hotel is in need of investment. On Companies House this is a Neil Bromage (disqualified Director) and a Scott Else. Room was awful, staff tried their best, very disappointing. Suggest you stay elsewhere.

The last post by Matt is a lie and defamatory. Perhaps he doesn`t read very well but anyone checking out what it says at Companies House will quickly see that he is wrong! If he`d like to properly identify himself a Writ will be issued without fail. He is clearly a former disgruntled member of staff of the previous management... More

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and experienced probably one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. On arrival i witnessed a guest begging for an toilet roll for her room. The room I was given was of the 3rd floor and although the is a lift the night porter advised no more than 4 people... More

This used to be a cosy atmospheric hotel. It has clearly been run into the ground by its present owner- we discovered some staff have not been paid for months. The rooms are dirty and decayed. Tragic.

I organised the #uocnurses graduation ball here and it was great. The staff were lively, especially the management who were extremely accommodating and helpful in the organisation of it. The room was beautifully decorated, the food was very tasty and plentiful and drinks were reasonable with some speciality cocktails made up to match our theme. I would definitely recommend this... We stayed overnight in the Castleview Room. Initial impressions of the room were of a rather grand, but quite old fashioned and tired room. The four poster bed looks impressive, and there is a comfortable seating area with coffee table. I'd guess that the room was last refurbished during the 1980s judging by the fixtures and fittings. A small wardrobe,... More

We see this hotel on the web and wanted a room urgently. We had been traveling for hours and needed to rest. On arrival it looked like the photo on the web. Once inside it looked very tiered and not the cleanest looking/smelling hotel. We checked in and were shown to lift that I wouldn't have been able to got... More

A lovely clean cosy and welcoming place. Visited by Dickens it is full of character and very close to the castle. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They were very kind to little Dotty who had the time of her life.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We always offer the best prices to our guests direct through hotel reception so be sure to call us first. Fantastic all round venue in a central location, ideal for weddings and functions, everything under one roof. In the heart of the historic city of Lancaster, with views of its famous castle, stands the Royal Kings Arms Hotel. Originally built in 1625 and later rebuilt in 1879, the hotel was immortalized by Charles Dickens in his tale of "The Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices". This Grade II listed hotel has 55 comfortable en-suite bedrooms, including the luxury Castle Suite, with its four poster bed and views of the castle, the entrance to which is just 50 yards away. With origins dating back almost 1,000 years Lancaster Castle, a Grade 1 listed building, occupies a city-centre hilltop location on the site of three successive Roman forts and has been described by English Heritage as "not only the North-West's most important historic and archaeological monument but also of international importance". Other historic buildings in Lancaster include the Judge's Lodgings and the Doll Museum. The sea plays a big part in Lancaster's history and the Maritime Museum is a fascinating place to visit. Beyond the city, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach, while the seaside resorts of Morecambe and Blackpool are a short drive away. Breakfast is available when checking in at reception, we do have car parking facilities at £5 per car per stay at the rear of the hotel. ... more   less
