We stayed for 3 nights and the room was excellent, We had all meals at the Hop and they were also very good and great value. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The only problem we had was the car park was full at times, maybe you need a car park for residents only.

Wonderful historic building near to the Abbey. Living history plus excellent real ale plus good value meals plus friendly, efficient staff and in an interesting location - what is there not to like - as the young people say. The free car parking was an added bonus.

This pub was exactly what I needed ..... I'd cycled non-stop from Bristol Temple meads (approx. 52 miles) and was so ready for a pint and a meal. As usual Wetherspoons is great value the steak brunch with eggs and chips (new on the menu) was delicious and very tender. I was welcomed and allowed to charge my phone from... More

Thoroughly enjoyed the rooms : little small but full of character. Food at weather spoons as superb as usual with 14 oz steak done med rare to perfection with no fatty wastes . Only marred by sullen blonde girl serving at the bar . Parking great and abbey great

Worth a visit as the building itself is lovely. We went for lunch here sitting inside, though there is plenty of outside areas to eat. A good choice of beers and ciders along with the usual Wetherspoon fare. We enjoyed our visit and will return when in this area again

After spending the previous night in an Ibis this place was such a relief! A warm welcome and comfortable bed in a building full of character. Surprisingly quiet seeing that our room was above a Wetherspoons. Recommended.

Taking a stab from the review and a late booking for 5 people in 3 rooms online. Note ringing pub directly we were told no rooms so check online booking sites as well. Lovely old pub with beer garden to spend time. Rooms very quaint and exposed beams, wonky floors and a star case on a lean added to character.... More

Just popped in for a morning coffee. Similar to some other large Wetherspoons with quirky rooms. Would have liked to see the letting rooms. The outside area was well laid out and went as far as the new river path with views over the river. Also abutted a small car park, albeit it is a fee paying one, which gives... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
