Good location in the centre of the town fronting the main road through, although noise was not an issue . Free parking in car park next to hotel . Lovely beer garden backing onto the river . Good breakfast .

A really great place to visit. All the value of Wetherspoons and in one of the best of their places I've visited. A great restoration of a really old building with a huge outdoor area next to the river, very special. Obviously a popular destination for many others, it always felt busy but not crowded with excellent staff making sure... More

Visited mid afternoon for tea and cake. A lovely old building which retains its character. The staff at the bar ignored me even though I was the only customer waiting. They all carried on doing minor jobs behind the bar, then served someone else who arrived after I did! Took my tea and carrot cake into the garden, which is... More

Visited on a Friday evening when passing through. Beer garden is delightful overlooking the Avon. Very busy but got served quite quickly and our meals were good. Never disappoints. Did not stay in hotel but there was a lot of visitors with cases.

Third year of using this hotel and facilities. Going again next year. Good food and beer as you would expect from Weatherspoons. Staff were great and every helpful..no problem with parking availability. This hotel is located in the centre of town close to the Abbey. Our extended families use the caravan park located in town centre and walk over to... More

A very pleasant stay in this historic hotel. Room was cosy and clean. Shower was a little bit cramped but not a big issue. Large bar, side rooms and nice garden area . Free parking. Excellent full English breakfast for less than a fiver.

A couple of weeks ago we went to Tewkesbury to visit friends and needed somewhere to stay overnight. We had stayed at The Royal Hop before and we hoped they would be able to fit us in but sadly theye were full. The young lady on reception very kindly rang around the town for us and finally she found somewhere... More

We picked the Hop Pole at random just for somewhere to rest on the way down to Cornwall and have a look around Tewksbury. I have to say I was very impressed, the staff are very friendly and polite, and the typical Weatherspoon food and drink is good and very reasonably priced with great service. The car park is just... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
