This is one of the best Wetherspoons to go to for breakfast. It's always hot and fresh and you don't have to wait long. The Hop Pole is lovely a little dark but so old and welcoming, the staff are nice and a great place to go for a good breakfast.

Just another bog standard Wetherspoons which does not allow dogs in, not even in the beer garden. I'm not sure I will ever understand this! They have some really good beers which we would have whiled away an afternoon drinking had dogs been allowed in the beer garden.

Good food, great drinks and a fantastic historical building. Food is your typical Wetherspoons quality, so tasty and good value. Drink selection is fantastic, especially when they have beer or cider festivals. Location is stunning, with a beautiful riverside garden.

We stayed two nights here to enable us to explore the area. The pub is large and quite dark, but has loads of history. There is a pleasant garden, with no smoking areas, so good to eat outside with areas to suit everyone. Our room was large and well equipped with views across the river. The food is the usual... Not our first visit. Always stop here on our way 'down south'. Loads of room. Quick and pleasant. Beautiful place. What more could you want? Make the time to trot down the high street too! You won't be disappointed😃

I really like Wetherspoons pubs, but I've never stayed in one overnight, I must say this place is absolutely gorgeous, steeped in history, very clean, cimfortable room in a very nice pub in a very quiet town, , there's a fantastic walk around the sheep filled feilds just opposite by the river,& of course, the food like all Wetherspoons is fast... So many faults, but it's just a Wetherspoons pub, with rooms above it - that's all. Cheap and cheerful, but no better than that. Seemed weird having 10am breakfast in the bar area with tables of noisy boozers around, and there's a thoroughfare from the front street entrance to the rear gardens and car park. At least the night-time bar... More

I called in here for lunch with my parents and had a lovely lunch. There's plenty of room in this beautiful old inn and even though it was busy, our meals were served quickly. The food was as good a quality as I have to expect in Wetherspoons, cooked nicely. The only disappointment with my visit was finding out that... More

This is the fourth time of staying here & yet again a great room ( 108 ) albeit a little too much noise coming from an adjoining room which was remedied by the night staff. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
