We enjoyed two days to celebrate Dhara and Dipesh’s wedding. The hotel property is beautiful and secluded. We stayed in delux room. It was so clean and had everything we needed. It made for a unique experience for the wedding we attended which was also beautifully done! We attended family wedding from 24th to 26th October. The staff made our first experience at the hotel wonderful. The staff were extremely accommodating and caring for each of our guests. They lived up to your promise about being dog friendly hotel,. Our dog Louie loved the attention and treats he got! We highly recommend this hotel for those planning weddings, family gatherings or simply time away with friends/loved ones.

Room Tip: We chose Delux room though the standard rooms were good size as well.

My husband and I booked Audley's Wood Hotel for our wedding. At the time, we had our wedding booked at another venue entirely and had been messed around a LOT. We started to panic and found Audley's Wood and could not be happier. From our first phone call with Neal to our wedding date, Audley's went above and beyond. Even just calling them felt like talking to an old friend. They were so excited for us and so friendly. We had just 7 weeks to put our entire wedding together with practically no previous planning due to poor communication with our previous venue. Audley's Wood was just a breath of fresh air. NOTHING was too much trouble. They were so quick to respond to emails and calls. We mostly dealt with Zoe (and Neal at the beginning) in terms of wedding planning and both of them were so knowledgeable. Having them on hand for opinions and advice was invaluable. We also spoke with Charlotte who was equally amazing. They made the entire process easy - which cannot be easy with JUST 7 weeks. The reception staff as well are an asset to Audley's Wood, both Caroline and Kai (and many others whose names are escaping us currently). Every time we left, I would say to my partner - 'I could just wrap them up in a bow and take them home with us'. I cannot stress the kindness we were shown at Audley's Wood enough. We were made to feel not only special but like family. Our dog was welcomed by all. One of our favourite memories of our wedding night is the staff coming over to fuss our dog who just lapped up every second of the attention. Our pup, Maya, was also maybe not the best behaved at certain points during the planning process however the staff at Audley's Wood were not only understanding and welcoming but actually helpful by bringing her little treats to help her socialisation (she is still a puppy). The food... omg, the food. We wanted a couple of options that were not on their sample menu and they were happy to accommodate us. We wanted scallops for starters as we are both obsessed with scallops. The staff asked us if we had any particular scallop dish in mind to which we replied, 'let your chef go crazy'. We have never experienced a scallop dish like the one set before us at our menu tasting and we are somewhat connoisseurs at this point. It feels like calling it a dish at all is disrespectful. It was art. Scallops with apple veloute (being honest, I have no idea what veloute even is but it was delicious) and apple gel (some crazy chemistry stuff is happening here and it is INSANE). It also came with tiny chunks of the crunchiest, sweetest apple you have ever tasted. It was perfectly balanced and the scallops were cooked to perfection. It must sound like I am going over the top but it was a spiritual experience and I'm an atheist. All of our meals were astonishing, but those scallops specifically deserve a special mention. On the day itself, Audley's were perfect. I know that Michael specifically did a lot for our wedding on the tech and operations side of things and he was just so helpful. He stayed rather late as well, kept us up to date on everything, announced us and events throughout the day with a beaming smile. The chefs and wait staff worked incredibly hard and pulled off such an amazing meal, all with smiling faces. The receptionists had nothing but compliments not just for us but all of our guests and every person at our wedding felt valued. The majority of our wedding guests had booked rooms too and all have noted on the cleanliness and comfort of their rooms. I realise cleaning staff are often forgotten in regards to reviews and tips but I feel like even though they were behind the scenes and we did not meet them, they must have worked incredibly hard as the hotel was spotless. We cannot recommend Audley's Wood enough and even now, coming away from our honeymoon, after staying at 5 luxury hotels since being at Audley's, we can say that we preferred Audley's Wood to any of them and are already hoping to go back soon. We would live there if we could. Audley's Wood is not some stuffy, uptight 4* hotel. It was elegant, luxurious and refined while remaining welcoming, down to earth and perfect in every way. Finally, after reading reviews out of curiosity, my husband and I noticed some bad reviews from years prior. All we can think is that Audley's underwent some changes because the experience we had was quite the opposite. We didn't visit Audley's until recently so we can't speak for experiences years prior, but I would not hesitate to recommend Audley's Wood to ANY future bride and groom. The entire process, the wedding day, the nights stay, the morning, the breakfast, everything was nothing short of perfect. We have never been so impressed by a hotel.

We came here for a pre-booked meal on a special occasion. No-one greeted us and it wasn't until I approached a member of staff in the restaurant (past reception and a bar) that we were acknowledged. Even then we were told to wait until someone was free. The bar was cold as a window was wide open, no-one was wearing masks and I eventually had to ask at the bar to be served. We asked for 2 cocktails and were served just one. After a further wait we were shown the current operating menu (see the photograph below) and told that there were 'issues' and that not ll items would be available. As we are both vegetarian we were limited to the choice between 2 pizzas and a risotto. This 'luxury' hotel describes its dining as, "Our dinner menu features classic and contemporary dishes in addition to Hand Picked favourites and signature plates inspired by the seasons and injected with plenty of local influences." At this point we decided that we could find much better quality and value elsewhere and made good our escape. So, in summary a very disappointing experience with a lack of staff, extremely poor menu and a cold and unwelcoming atmosphere. BTW - The cocktail was a French 75 which was the first time the barman had heard of one - he did, to his credit, serve a blinding French 75, shame there was only 1 of them because it was bang-on !!

Response from James Webb, General Manager at Audleys Wood Hotel
Responded 3 days ago
Thank you for taking the time to share your review. First and foremost, please accept my sincere apologies for the disappointment experienced on this occasion. As I am sure you are aware, this is not the usual standard of hospitality we would wish to offer and I am very sorry your expectations were not met on this occasion. Please be assured I have discussed your feedback in detail with the Senior Team and they too would like to be associated with this apology. With regards to the menu, we were indeed offering a reduced menu, this was due to a shortage of Chefs, not just at our hotel but across hospitality in general. As of today 25th October the situation has improved and we are delighted to announce that we are launching our new a la carte menu. I recognise that this will be of little consolation to you now, but wanted you to rest assured that your feedback is valued and that we are now operating to the standards we are renowned for. I do hope that you will return to visit us on future occasions when you can be assured of a very warm welcome. Best intentions, James Webb Hotel Manager.

Early in September I asked Neal Barrett, who is the Events Cordinator at the Audleys Wood Hotel in Basingstoke, to organise a late lunch on the last Sunday of the month for a very important birthday for my wife. The lunch was for 16 people including 4 children. From my initial meeting with Neal the lunch was extremely well organised from agreeing the menu for the two course lunch involving a few changes agreed in the two weeks leading up to to event, to allowing a couple of us to decorate the room specifically set aside for us for the afternoon a couple of hours before the lunch and for making available the right number of staff. The table was beautifully set up and, as it was a lovely day, we had the bonus of being able to access a garden area at the rear of the hotel. The lunch was extremely well managed, the drinks and food service were excellent and, above all, the food was first class. My thanks go to everyone involved in making the lunch a great success including, of course, the team in the kitchen. Thank you Audleys Hotel.

The hotel is located outside Basingstoke, just on the other side of M3. We arrived in inclement weather and had to share the lobby with the wedding party escaping the elements. Obviously, this had put considerable strain on hotel staff although they managed reasonably well. There is a huge hospitality tent at the back, hidden from view by hedges and trees, making it unobtrusive. We stayed in one of the newer wings, quite skilfully blended with the main manor house. The room was spacious, with plenty of wardrobe space and a huge bed. There was a tea-making facility as well as a coffee machine. Water was provided in the fridge. Bathrobes and slippers were also provided. Strange heating arrangements that were controlled from the Reception. The bathroom was of good size, well-appointed with huge bath tab and quality toiletries, typical of Hand Picked hotels. The dinner in the vaulted restaurant was tasty but the choice offered on our package was very limited, that is – none. The main was a succulent Lamb Wellington, but what if you don’t like lamb? Dessert was quite unimpressive – Pavlova cups with huge amounts of cream that we left behind. Breakfast was served in the separate room and was quite tasty with a good selection. Staff was quite efficient, friendly and helpful. Overall, pleasant stay but considering the lack of Wow factor or any additional facilities, we found it extravagantly over-priced.
