Lovely comfortable rooms with a good shower and facilities. Breakfast is still good even as grab and go coffee cereal and bacon rolls. Covid rules are followed and staff are friendly and helpful if you need advice on the local area.
I recently stayed at this hotel while attending a business meeting in the area. I’ve got to say how disappointed I was that the room was not clean at all. With Covid cleaning supposed to be more intense I was shocked that the room could be unclean The basics should be easy The TV remote still had food on it from a previous guests stay Disgusting and I would never stay their again. I actually cancelled another stay at a different holiday Inn following this experience. The 2 hotels I’ve stayed in since Jurys Inn & DoubleTree Hilton have specifically cleaned the TV remote with sanitiser
Stayed here as we wanted to visit places in the area . The room was clean, staff friendly & helpful. Location is great ,price ok . Just one problem, the lighting in the room was not ideal. No middle ceiling light ,just spotlights at side of beds and a hanging light in one corner. Needs a light ofer the long mirror . Beds clean and comfy ,a very pleasant weekend was had .
Very much as expected for a holiday inn express, rooms were good and clean, Breakfast is now more limited but was well run, all staff we encountered were pleasant, and free parking right outside the hotel. Overall good valve.
I arrived at the hotel early (as a Spire Level guest I have 10 am check in subject to availability). Upon arrival I headed to the seating area to put down my heavy bags before I went to the check in desk. Before I even had the chance to put down my bags I was "pounced on" by Belinda asking me what I was at the hotel for, was I checking in, was I leaving. It was very uncomfortable, almost like she was in a state of panic. I proceeded to reception and asked to check in, no rooms were available so I asked if they could call housekeeping and get a time frame and I would wait in the vacant seating area and have a coffee. I was dealing with a young lady who was polite and friendly but then Belinda decided to interrupt , which is terribly unprofessional when you're dealing with one member of staff and then suddenly you have to deal with two, it's almost like gang behaviour. Then I was told that I couldn't wait in the hotel and that I should wait outside (in the cold and rain) until I could check in. I was dumfounded. I paused for a moment to process what she had said and then I asked (to clarify) " you want me to wait outside in the cold and the rain until I can check in, with my luggage etc ?" So, I told her that is not the type of welcome I expect and to suggest someone wait outside the hotel was absolutely stupid. I'm sure most would agree with me on that one. I realise tensions are high and the need for social distancing but the reception was empty and the mere suggestion that someone should have to wait outside to check in is nothing less than pure stupidity. Minutes later the manager comes out clearly agitated and full of anger accusing myself of calling a staff member of being stupid. First, I called the suggestion stupid not her (although, i'll let those reading this decide for yourselves). Secondly, I expect a manager to be calm, composed and professional but all I saw was a level of unprofessionalism unbecoming of a manager and he should revisit his training manual. Finally, I have been a IHG customer for many years, stayed in 100+ hotels and spent over 700+ nights and never been treated like that. Most hotels I frequent know me personally and if asked would tell you how charming and friendly I am. I regard a lot of IHG staff as friends as I have know them for such a long time. This was a miserable experience for me that left me feeling truly saddened and clearly the staff here need to learn how to be more courteous and friendly, but it's understandable that why they are the way they are if the management was anything to go by. Clearly mismanaged by someone that allows his staff to behave in any way whatsoever. I have probably been coming to these hotels longer than Belinda has worked in them and it counted for nothing. Whilst this wont deter me from staying with IHG again, they cannot be held responsible for a mismanaged team, I will look for alternatives when in Derby and avoid this hotel at all costs.…
