This would be my perfect local. I love the quirky artifacts, homely atmosphere, excellent bar snacks and the adorable cat who roams around the place. Have yet to try the food apart from the chips which we were given for free when service had ended - and I have to say were mighty fine chips. A proper pub!

The pluses: excellent ales, including Marston's superb 'Old Empire', very pleasant barmaid Weds - Fri, good food at weekend, especially the hot meat rolls! The minuses: Saturday barmaid seems to find it all a bit much, food on the Friday we went very slow and considerably less good (my much anticipated hot meat roll and my wife's burger tasted 'old',...

I love this little pub. Set back from the main road with plenty of parking around the back this gem of a boozer has a great atmosphere. There are usually a few friendly hounds patrolling the place who will give you a soulful look in exchange for a crisp or two. The beer is good, the staff are friendly and...

Popped in here for a bite to eat recently. Landlord was very off with me, to the point I nearly left. Regulars hunched over the end of the bar talked about my sister in her ear-shot, not particularly nicely. Should have left, ordered food it was the worst thing I've eaten in a pub in a long time. Really awful...

This is a quirky pub... sometimes empty, other times packed to the gills, the character of the place is easy to appreciate.-- small olde worlde pub tables covered with beer mats nestled among wooden chairs and thin bench seats under a ceiling of ceramic brewery jugs tells you what this pub is about.. drinking. It has up to 7 real...

Called here for lunch - well what can I say. Lovely old pub, very dog friendly and extremely pleasant staff. We had Barnsley Chop with good fresh veg including proper mash and Gammon Steak with good old fashioned home made chips. Truly yummy and the portions sizes are huge. The locals on the next table had the All Day Breakfast...

We go here quite a lot, its about 20 minutes drive away, but well worth it. We have two large White German Shepherd dogs that we take for a long walk somewhere then head up to the Crown for something to eat and a bit of chill time. The welcome is great, the pub is so homely and clean, and...

Stayed here for two nights 12th & 13th September 2011 as a base for running a training course & returning for next two weeks for the same. Superb room, excellent price, evening food fantastic & breakfast is awesome... oh yes, & the beer's not too bad, either! Downstairs, nice old fashioned country pub down a quiet lane; upstairs very nice...
