I stayed here recently with work while at an event at the East of England Showground. The staff were amazing, most accommodating and hard working service staff I have recently been looked after by and definitely the only jewel you will find in the hotel and the only reason 1 * wasn't awarded . I had the unfortunate experience of staying in room 59 which is in the eaves, omg, the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in and I spent some time in awful hotels in India. The bathroom didn't even have a proper shower and you couldn't stand in the bath, the tiles were cracked and the light was hanging off the ceiling/wall and didn't work. Finding electrical points to charge mobiles or laptops was almost impossible and there was evidence of leaking windows and damp and mould. For the price if it had been in central London you may have gone "ok" but in Peterborough it was a £20 a night room.

We stayed in a double room for one night on a Sunday night. The location is very convenient for town and the off-road parking is good. The room was clean and tidy (although they could let the vacuum cleaner at the areas next to the skirting boards!) with nice fluffy towels in a nice en-suite. We received a friendly greeting from the person on reception and were told where our room was. The place is a bit of a maze with plenty of steps, corridors and ambiguous direction signs. When we got to our room, we weren’t disappointed and found the bed to be big and comfortable. The breakfast is ok but it would have been nice if the staff had told us what was on offer and that it extended around the bar area. The cooked breakfast food was lukewarm and the sausages tasteless. The person, who appeared to be the manager, came into the breakfast/reception area and hardly acknowledged our existence, not even a “good morning”. Considering the reasonable cost of staying at the hotel, we probably would stay there again but it might not be our first choice.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Queensgate Hotel. In general the stay was good. The room was cleaned to an acceptable standard and the bed was very comfortable. The en suite had a great shower over the bath with fluffy towels and free toiletries provided. We ate is the restaurant on our first evening had a lovely three course meal for £18.50 per person. With the meal we had one bottle of cider and two pints of lager. The total bill came to over £66! Very expensive drinks!! Apart from the expensive drinks we would have thoroughly enjoyed our stay.... But we didn't because of the awful smell in the room. The smell was of swerage/blocked drains. The Smell hit you as you opened the door to the room and intensified when you opened the bathroom door. We opened the window and put on the extractor fan hoping that would help. It didn't, so I went to the reception to report the issue. The gentleman at reception was apologetic, asking if the smell was coming from outside, no it wasn't and if we had flushed the toilet! He said he would get the maintenance guy to have a look at it the next day. I asked if he had any air freshener as the smell was really bad. He obliged but didn't offer any other help, such as going to the room to check it for himself. So we spent the night in a smelly room. The next day we were out all day returning back to the hotel briefly before going out to get dinner. On our return the smell was still very strong, so obviously the maintenance man had not fixed the problem, if he had been at all. Very disappointed with the level of service regarding this problem. Not only was the smell horrendous but I worry about health and safety issues.

I loved everything about the Queensgate Hotel. I was greeted by a lovely member of staff who checked me in. He brought my bags to my room and told my some of the fascinating history about the hotel. Such a friendly young man, I felt like he genuinly cared. I had booked the luxury suite which was beautiful from the decor all the way to the cleanliness. I felt like I was a Queen while I stayed in this room! The bed was sumptuous and beautifully dressed with the swags of fabric. The breakfast was amazing as well. There was so many options to choose from. There wasn't anything that I didn't like. Everything was clean, beautiful, and utterly breathtaking! Simply amazing hotel! Congratulations to Michael & the team!

The Queensgate is easy walking distance from the centre of the city so we were able to leave our car (excellent car parking) and walk. The staff were helpful and willing, room comfortable. Given the reasonable cost it was overall and excellent place to stay (three nights).
