I took my mother for afternoon tea for 2 at Waterford Castle as a special birthday treat. The food was delicious but the service was very slow. We had to ask 3 servers for more hot water for our teapots (including a manager) & waited about 30min for it. Not the service I'd expect when paying €35/person.

We dined here recently with a friend to celebrate a special occasion. The evening meal was delicious and was served in opulent surroundings in the dining room. When the bread selection was being served pre meal, I was rather surprised that the 2 gents in the company were offered bread before my wife. This made me feel a little uncomfortable as I would expect the ladies to be served first. This pattern continued throughout the meal. A little surprising for a hotel with such a high reputation.

There is no denying that this is an impressive place - the surroundings are great and when you walk into the building itself its magnificent. However I thought the room itself was a little disappointing given the cost of the room which was in the region of £250 per night bed and breakfast. I have to say the breakfast was pretty disappointing, it wasn't red hot when it arrived and if I'd just come for breakfast and paid over £26 I would have been a bit upset. We were at a wedding for the weekend and a lot of us went to the golf club on the Thursday evening where there was a BBQ - I was very upset to find out that members of the public paid 16 Euros each and we were charged 20 Euros each. Given the amount of business the castle had from the wedding, including reception, rooms, lodges and bar takings I felt this was a little greedy of them. We stayed in the lodges for a couple of days - these were really nice but our lodge was missing quite a bit of stuff including loo rolls, kitchen rolls and other basic kitchen and bathroom necessities. I would recommend the castle if youre looking for an impressive hotel with atmosphere - but I dont think Id stay here again.

Have been here a few times now and stayed in the lodges for a girls shopping weekend. We love the lodges , they are fab , really spacious and clean. There is a lovely electric fire and It’s lovely in the winter time as if your late checking in they will have the fire going and the house is lovely and warm . Also stayed here in the summer and it’s lovely sitting out the back in the sun .

Our family stayed in one of lodges from 4th to 10th of august. We were very disappointed. We did'nt sleep for 3 nights as all the doors in lodge creaked very loudly .The beds and couches were well worn and uncomfortable, I reported the doors and a sink that was blocked on monday evening .. I offered to oil the doors myself .but receptionist said maintainence would call. I bought the WD40 on wed and oiled all doors. I mentioned my complaint on leaving to reception but she didn't seem to care.I would not recommend this place to anybody. We enjoyed the scenic walk and the playground for children .When one goes on holidays one expects a comfortable and restful holiday which i guarantee one wont get here.
