The Granville Hotel emerges as a cherished option for many travelers, offering great value and premium service, particularly praised for its hearty breakfast and central location. While the hotel boasts a traditional charm and attentive service, some guests have called out the room sizes and noise levels as less desirable aspects.
Despite these concerns, the hotel's overall cleanliness and the inviting atmosphere of its bar receive consistent commendation. However, visitors should be prepared for potential disturbances from thin walls and external noise.

Detailed Reviews
I only really have the motivation to leave reviews if a place is really great or really awful and the Granville was amazing. This hotel is the first place I've stayed since lockdown has lifted. When we arrived there is a staff member at the door directing guests as to where to wait to be checked in, and I could hear them taking the details of restuarant patrons for contact tracing. The reception area has been laid out ot ensure social distancing, with clear markers the floors of all public areas downstairs, and chairs kept apart where you sit while waiting. We did have to wait about half an hour after check in time to access our room, but the staff kindly accommodated our request to be put in a room at the back of the hotel so we wouldn't hear the traffic which we had not made until the day of our stay. To ensure social distancing at breakfast we were asked to book, which was great and also meant that you order off a menu instead of going to a buffet, I don't know if this is always the case but it felt like a real treat! Our room and bathroom were absolutely spotless - I have never in my life stayed anywhere so clean! I am the kind of person who notices every piece of dust or stray hair on the bathroom floor, so even when I stay in fancy places I am usually a bit uncomfortable but I mean it when I say this was absolutely gleaming! This alone would make me return. Staff really friendly and helpful, and all wearing visors. Oh and the breakfast options were pretty unique too - whiskey porridge is a delicious option!

My wife and I have just returned from a most enjoyable mid week break in Granville Hotel. Not having been in Waterford for many years we did some research on possible hotels and Granville certainly lived up to the excellent reviews we had read. From our arrival/check in to our departure we encountered friendly, efficient, courteous staff throughout the hotel. The covid measures were fully adhered to and didn’t make guests feel uncomfortable. There were lots of sanitizer stations and all staff wore either a visor or mask - once you get used to it there is no problem. Social distancing in the bar ( we ate there on one night) and the dining room was totally enforced with tables well separated. As for the food - superb!! Breakfast was served to the table piping hot and with whatever cereal, breads and fruit one requested. We also enjoyed a beautiful dinner in the dining room - again top class. We had a king room which was spotlessly clean and most comfortable.
We were a little apprehensive about staying in a hotel in the current covid crisis but we were totally at ease in Granville. We can recommend it fully and we are looking forward to a return visit later this Summer.

From the greeting on arrival to checkout on departure this hotel cannot be beaten for its welcome and standards. All the staff were very well presented and displayed a super attitute to their work and their guests. Housekeeping are to be commended in their standards, all public areas and our bedroom were spotless and the beautiful decor very well maintained. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent, in lovely surroundings and social distance well maintained. This hotel sets an example of how COVID 19 guidelines and procedures should be adhered to. To give an indication we noticed a member of staff cleaning the touch points in the restaurant 4 times during the course of our dinner. There was a duty manager on the floor at all times ensuring that anyone entering the hotel was a guest, therefore providing additional reassurance in COIVD 19 standards. Super location for touring Waterford county and city.

My husband and I stayed in the Granville for one night as we had planned on cycling the Waterford Greenway the next day.
On arrival, we were met by friendly staff but they seemed to be very distracted and the lady dealing with us had to leave and another lady checked us in. We were asked if we had booked a time for breakfast the following morning which we had not. We were not told that we had to book a slot for breakfast in advance. The receptionist said that someone from the hotel should have called us the day prior but we did not receive any call. It appears that they had the wrong phone number on their files which ended up being some random 15 digit number. We had provided our phone number so I am not sure why it wasn't recorded. In any event, time for breakfast was staggered due to the government restrictions and the hotel were actively managing social distancing.
Unfortunately, there were only two time slots available for breakfast, 8.45am and 10.45am and neither suited us. We did not end up attending for breakfast the following morning and just got breakfast out.
The hotel was extremely disappointing and is not 4 star quality. It is in much need of upgrading and modernisation. We requested a king size bed which we got but the bed was made up of two separate parts/mattresses. This is not unusual to see in hotels but one side/mattress had a big dip in it and was uneven and needed to be replaced.
We attempted to use the tea making facilities in the room but, to my alarm, I found that the cups were dirty. It made me question how clean the room was during our stay and made me feel uncomfortable in the room. I rang room service and asked for a replacement cup. They apologised and quickly sent clean cups up to the room.
Not to be blunt, but the bathroom was a joke. It was so small, you could barely close the door once you stepped into the bathroom. The shower nozzle was broken and the shower head was in need of replacing or cleaning at the very least to remove the build up of limescale. The extractor fan was not working. The soap was provided in little boxes but the boxes were wet.
The fire alarm went off for about five minutes in the morning which was unexplained. The receptionist didn't even mention it to us when we went to check out half an hour later or apologise for the noise. She did not ask if we enjoyed our stay either.
The only positive aspect of the stay was the well managed social distancing.
Overall, it was a very disappointing hotel.

Response from Richard Hurley, General Manager at Granville Hotel
Responded Sep 11, 2020
Thank you for your review, we are very sad to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us, I believe you booked online and for some reason the phone number that came through to us was not your number as you have said, we are not sure why this happened but we will be looking into it. We do normally try to phone our guests before they arrive to book meal times so our guests can have their preferred time, we are very sorry that the times left were not suitable. In regards to the cups we are shocked this has happened and cannot apologise enough, we are taking all cleaning very seriously as we always have but with more deep cleaning at the moment, I can assure you this is something we will take very seriously. If you decide to give us another chance we would love the opportunity to show you the quality and service that we pride ourselves es on, please contact us on stay@granvillehotel.ie if you do wish to make another booking. Once again thank you for bringing these issues to our attention and we will be discussing your review with each department.

In September the 2 of us spent 10 nights in the Granville Hotel, having originally booked in for 5 nights we extended our stay twice. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful and very conscious of safety requirements. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. We ate in both the bar and restaurant, both were excellent in terms of variety of food, portion sizes, spacing of tables, service, and cleanliness with table and chairs being cleaned after each use. Breakfasts were fantastic with a wide variety of options for every taste including freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit salad, vegan option, gluten-free option, and all the usual options.
We felt very safe during our stay, in these strange times, with records being taken of all people entering the hotel, plenty of hand sanitisers, plenty of space between tables when eating with screens where appropriate.
I would highly recommend a break or longer holiday at the Granville Hotel and is a place to which we will certainly return

We stayed for 3 nights during the glorious spell of weather that Ireland enjoyed in mid Sept 2020. We requested a front room overlooking the quay. When we entered the room it was not the room we requested. A quick call and in 5 minutes we were changed to a brighter more spacious front room with views to the water. After that slight hiccup we enjoyed our stay in this old style and well appointed hotel. We dined in the hotel bar on two evenings and the food was very good with the Covid precautions being well observed. We enjoyed our breakfasts very much. Under the new regulations we reserved our time and to have good food served to us at our table was very satisfying and a throwback to yesteryear and beats the constant traipsing up and down of self service we were so used to with the buffet breakfasts. Our order was taken and the food arrived in time for us to enjoy each course. We didn’t feel rushed to finish our meal even though the hotel was pretty full and other guests were due to arrive in at their appointed times. The staff in the hotel were friendly and efficient as you would expect and the rooms were comfortable and cleaned daily. Overall I would recommend the Granville and as a family owned and run hotel it was nice to have that individual touch. As mentioned there was strict observance of Covid regulations throughout the hotel and only guests allowed as far as I could see. This helped to restrict footfall and ensured better compliance. Waterford is a lovely city and we enjoyed the Greenway.

Excellent stay. The hotel was absolutely spotless and the staff clearly took hygiene very seriously, which of course is an important issue in these days of Covid-19. The room was comfortable and well furnished. The breakfasts were very tasty, fresh and served quickly and efficiently. The evening meals were tasty and the residents' lounge was a welcoming spot for a drink. The location is spot-on - just a couple of minutes walk from the main attractions of Waterford City.

My wife and I stayed her for one night on a B&B basis and had an evening meal as well. Was a wee bit hesitant about booking it as we normally go for more modern boutique style hotels. I shouldn't have worried! From the moment we walked in we realised this place was something a bit different. The level of service and friendliness was something we dont find too often these days. The style of the hotels would make you think of something from the 1920`s, I imagine. It really had a charm from its decor and lay out that was really nice. Sometimes older places like this can tend to look and feel a bit jaded and rough around the edges. Nothing like this here.
There was total adherence to the covid regulations, from the moment you entered the front door, and get your temperature checked, to the social distancing in the bar and restaurant.
We had a lovely 3 course meal and a few drinks in the bar and again the staff couldn't have been better. Really friendly and attentive. And the next morning we had a really great breakfast. The choice was awesome. I had porridge, a strawberry smoothie, eggs benedict and tea and toast. All table served by more very attentive staff. It really felt as if we were being spoilt!
Our room, 118, was to the front of the hotel with a view towards the river. Very nicely decorated. Again in a older style but very tastefully done. The room was well kitted out including a coffee machine and normal tea and coffee making essentials. And the shower, over the bath, was super strong.
The only 1 negative I would point out was that the windows matched the rest of the hotel in age, which meant they did not keep out the road noise from below, and this was especially noticeable about 5 30 the next morning when the road sweeping machines were doing the rounds up and down the road! But a good night's sleep up to that point. Car parking was easy, in the public car park just across the road from the hotel. It was charged at a reduced rate and only cost a couple of euros.
All in all we had a really enjoyed our stay in the Grenville and would definitely recommend it for its great service and old fashioned style.

We stayed one night here. We were fortunate our room was clean upon arrival at 3pm but this was not the case for everyone and the woman at the door was very rude to some guests. We appreciate the extra cleaning taking place due to covid-19 however the hotel should hire more cleaning staff or push check in time back if this is the case. Our room was large and clean we had no complaints about that. We had booked into the bar for dinner prior to our arrival however they had no record of our booking! Luckily they let us in and the food was lovely. There’s a room upstairs for residence to sit for drinks which was nice considering we cannot stay in the bar past our 90 minutes. Breakfast was lovely all buffet items were available to order from your table as well as your hot breakfast. Overall we enjoyed our night in the Granville and will be back.

Hi, thank you for your question, we have music in our bar every Saturday night throughout the year, we have it on Fridays also during the busy summer months.
Thank you
Hi
There are amazing things to see, places to eat and lovely pubs all with in walking distance of the hotel - from the infamous Waterford Crystal to the various museums, Reginalds Tower and some stunning church's. Waterford is a small compact city with lots to do for visitors and then we are so close to the sea for stunning walks and fresh air to clear your head. Enjoy the stay and you will love the Granville Hotel - i recommend a freshly made sandwich of your choice for lunch - just perfect!
Not sure if hotel validates parking unless you book directly with them.
We booked one night, direct, and had free parking from 5 p.m. until noon the following day.
Parking is directly across the street from the hotel in a large, open-air public car park.
I cannot remember sorry it was last November. But this hotel is wonderful and would loan you one if required. Well recommended.
