We were only in Kilkenny a short while, but our stay in the Butler House was pleasant. The hotel had a good breakfast and was very central to the town. The staff were helpful with planning logistics and had good recommendations for dinner. Hopefully in our next run through Kilkenny, we can spend more time.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Perfectly located within walking distance of Kilkenny Castle and the shopping area. Lots of restaurants and bars close by. Hotel is old by very well maintained and decorated. Check-in was so welcoming and friendly. Rooms were spotless and very well appointed. Unfortunately our shower wouldn’t turn off and the sink wouldn’t drain. We reported this to reception and the issue was resolved by the time breakfast was finished, Gorgeous lounge area to relax and order a quiet drink. Great fireplace in the foyer made the entrance very welcoming. Definitely a great place to relax, beautiful gardens & welcoming staff. We will certainly return. Great choices available for breakfast, staff were happy to bring whatever you needed. I would suggest that a larger container of butter be supplied to avoid having to request constant refills. Also bringing the toast with the pastries just led to toast going uneaten and hot toast being requested when the food arrived.…
We stayed here for one night in a suite which was huge with a great view of the garden and castle. If you want to stay in your room and enjoy the view, great. If you want to have a meal or drink you won't get it (mid week). No food is available and the receptionist will get you a drink. The room was very comfortable but the small bathroom is a let down. Breakfast was not good. Our order was taken and toast and tea was brought with our cereals so the untoasted toast was cold when our hot food arrived. It was served on a tiered tray with a tiny tub of butter. It felt we were constantly looking for something when we asked for hot toast, more butter and marmalade. Throughout our stay all of the staff were great and helpful.
We’d a fantastic stay in Butler House. The location is excellent and within walking distance to all the main attractions in Kilkenny. The reception staff were welcoming and attentive whilst the rooms were spacious and clean. We especially enjoyed the eclectic decor and paintings. The breakfast was also delightful with beautiful views of the castle and garden. The only small negative was the weak WiFi coverage and the lack of shower gel/shampoo holders near the bath. I would highly recommend the accommodation when staying in Kilkenny. We would especially like to thank Wendy for being so attentive and funny with our daughter.
Beautiful accomodations on the outskirts of the main area .... An easy walk to all the sights in town ... The staff was great, the complimentary breakfast very good, the grounds/garden were very pretty.... This was the nicest place I stayed during my visit to Ireland.
The Butler House is a great hotel! This is the third time I have stayed there and I highly recommended it. The hotel is beautiful and the formal gardens are very peaceful. All of the staff were professional, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was the best we had in Ireland on this trip. The hotel is conveniently located and is walkable to all of the sights, restaurants and pubs.
Stayed here late August. Staff were really friendly. Our room opened up onto a lovely view of the beautiful gardens. I have travelled alot and I can safely say that the fry I got for breakfast was absolutely amazing. The best I have ever tasted. And was presented beautifully. Neil and Aideen Armagh city.
I’ve traveled all over Ireland and visited some really nice places. This beautiful house is way up on the list and not just because of the house itself. I had the privilege to be welcomed by the amazing Freda at the front desk. She was fantastic, friendly, generous with her time and just a downright really nice person. What a great woman to have greetings guests.
Wonderful bed and breakfast right next to Kilkenny Castle. We chose to upgrade to a suite, and ... wow! We felt like we were staying in a grand suite at Downton Abbey! The Lady Eleanor suite was massive, beautiful and had a full view of the castle. Loved it! Great breakfast, good service at the hotel. Very nice. The only minor thing was that it didn't appear the carpeting in the room had been fully vacuumed. But it wasn't dirty at all.
The castle view room was extraordinary with a curved bay window with seating. The large king bed was extremely comfortable with a duvet cover. There was still and sparkling water provided each day. The bathroom had a large tub with shower and a very handy shelf for bath products. Of great use was the elevator and parking was secure and free. Only downside for us was breakfast, the flavours were not too our taste and the meats were very salty. The pleasant staff made up for any shortcoming. The location was perfect, the street was quiet and there were no bright lights shining in the room
