5* for this place. Family run and not a single complaint for our two night stay. Good location - nice walk by the river into the city (15 mins app). Owners Jim and Joan could not of been more accommodating and their family. Food was great both mornings and service was great. Rooms are not amazing but it’s an old B and B - great value for Kilkenny.
On the plus side, the hostess let us leave our car in front of the B&B, which was a huge help seeing as Kilkenny is a bit difficult to navigate for foreigners. The breakfast was nice, the room was clean and the building very calm at night. We had a nice stay and the hosts were very welcoming on our arrival. Minus: the room was really small. We had a twin room and had difficulty fitting our suitcases and being able to walk around. Via mail, the hostess seemed very stressed about our dietery needs (one vegetarian and one lactose intolerant). She told us she would not be able to accomodate our dietery needs and that we were welcome to chosse somewhere else to stay. We then talked with her on our arrival and were able to find an easy solution (I just had eggs and the rest of a continental breakfast, which is more than enough, my friend avoided the milk by going for a full irish). I would definitely avoid in case of gluten intolerance or allergies seeing as she did not feel comfortable with our situation. Finally, being swiss, we thought that the 20 min walk to the town centre would be fine. We do admit we quickly felt tired in the evening and resented the walk back. Being students, we wanted to avoid other options, but if you are trevelling with children or older people I would try to navigate the centre and find a car park or find a taxi home.…
Stayed here Saturday night just for a night out in Kilkenny, great value. Was told when booking room was going to be very small but on arrival had everything we needed. Tea/coffee,hairdryer,toiletries, ensuite. Helpful, professional staff.
Think the title says it all what more could you want !! Myself and my friend Booked in here for a wedding at the Newpark (so close) it was ideal ! Much cheaper and our host even dropped us down Because it was cold and miserable out! So happy with the stay here .. Thank you!!
My wife and I stayed at Chaplins for the one night we were in Kilkenny. Situated about 1km out of town and 1.5km from the castle, we had onsite parking for our car and a lovely warm room to stay in. It's a gentle walk into town via a single, straight road so no chance of getting lost. Comfortable beds greeted us after a day and night of sightseeing. I had an early morning run at 8am. Chaplins to the castle, a lap around the castle wall , along canal walk and back to Chaplins is 6kms exactly, the perfect distance to shake off the night before. A nice , hot shower followed by a delicious , full Irish breakfast was exactly what I needed. Lovely hosts providing everything we needed to make our time in Kilkenny special.
