We stayed at Friars Glen for Four days in early May, 2022. We paid for a double room but were given a triple because we were staying for 4 days. Over the last 20 years we have stayed at Friars Glen in Killarney. They are next a wonderful hotel Clogans which is a five minute walk for great pub food, restaurant food, and Irish dancing nights in season. In the morning we saw 10 wonderful deer eating outside in the 7 acre backyard. The room was a large white tile bathroom with a very hot shower. Great for couples celebrating their 46 anniversary and my wife's 69 birthday. The room had a chair, tables, and television. The view out the back was spectacular with the deer and the mountains in the background. There is a cozy lounge with coffee and tea at all times . The lounge has wonderful wood burning stove with peat and wood. The smells bring back the old Ireland that I remember from 20 years ago. Mary and John are happy to discuss all your travel plans and are very knowledgeable. They have been in this place for over 30 years. They remembered us from staying there many times. Mary is quite generous with listening to her guests and helping them make the most of their Irish vacation. She also found us a local pharmacy for our required Covid test to get back to the states. We did not have to drive to Shannon to get the test. The breakfast is in a sunny sun room overlooking the backyard where the deer come early in the morning. There was several cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, and 4 different choices of hot breakfast. Mary was kind enough to get strawberry yogurt as a special request, my wife's favorite. She makes wonderful french press coffee and great hot chocolate. The location is right across from Killarney National Park where you can easily get a carriage ride, drive or hike to the falls, and to the botanical gardens. The location is 15 minutes from Killarney but is very quiet and peaceful compared to the tourist traffic in Killarney. You are only 23 KM from Kenmare and close to all the attractions of the national park. Mary and John were kind enough to find a ring my wife left in the room and mail it back to us. They reflect the wonderful Irish spirit of hospitality, kindness, and honesty. They are our favorite place to stay in Ireland. We always plan at least 3 to 4 days to stay at their place., They do take people for shorter stays. This is the top place to stay for location to the park, peace and quiet, and comfort. If you stay there, say hello from Roger and Diane.

So much more than a B & B. Mary & John are the epitome of Irish hospitality - warm, welcoming and can do. Thank you - we do hope to return another time.

Friar's Glen is wonderfully located within the Killarney National Park so away from Killarney's main hotel hub. The rooms are nigh on perfect and it is not unusual to look out of your window and see deer grazing on the lawn - John has deliberately left areas uncut for this purpose.

We spent three nights in the 3 bedroom cottage and had a wonderful stay! John and Mary could not be better hosts. The cottage had everything we needed, they gave us excellent restaurant suggestions and the location is perfect right on the national park grounds. You cannot go wrong staying with them😊

Best Bed and Breakfast in Killarney! We recently had a 6 night stay as a family of 6 at Friars Glen and if you’re looking for accommodations in Killarney, Friars Glen should be at the top of your choices. It is so peaceful to come back to at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. Not only is the setting right out of a picture book of Ireland, but Mary and John couldn’t be better hosts! The rooms are very comfortable and incredibly clean. Breakfast is simply delicious! A buffet with fresh fruits of many varieties with yummy breads, croissants, brown bread, cereals, yogurt and much more. But then top it off with wonderful choices from a varied menu! Try the delicious traditional Irish breakfast or try Mary’s yummy crepes, eggs, bacon, sausages or porridge! We stayed as a family of 6 including 2 growing teenagers whose appetites are endless and Mary was great with extra portions for them! Such accommodating hosts you will never meet anywhere else but at Friars Glen! So ready to offer assistance of any kind….any questions you might have regarding restaurants, activities in the area or requesting a taxi, Mary and John are right there to make your Killarney visit extraordinary! If you’re planning a visit to Killarney, think twice before booking a traditional hotel. You’ll never get a real Irish vacation until you stay at Friars Glen and experience her real people. Mary and John, thank you for everything you both did to make our holiday outstanding! Friars Glen is beautiful but you make it special!

I'm not usually one for writing reviews, but we had such a lovely stay with Mary and John at Friars Glen. We were down in Killarney for a wedding and this stunning B&B was just a few minutes walk away. From the moment we stepped through the door and were greeted by a welcoming handshake and good caht with John, we felt like we were home. a gorgeously kept, spacious bedroom was waiting for us after our journey and then we were able to go and relax in the sitting room with a glass of wine in front of the roaring fire.
In the morning we got to meet the amazing Mary, who cooked us up a storm and filled us in on the history of the property and just gave us a great chat. We got to enjoy views of the mountains beyond and the deer roaming freely from the cosy breakfast area.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. You won't be disappointed staying here. Enjoy.

This is a beautiful small inn located in a peaceful, wooded setting away from the center of town yet very close to all local attractions. The room and hosts were lovely. We have stayed in many B&Bs, and we rank the breakfast at Friars Glen number 1! The breakfast included a beautiful table setting with china, an extensive assortment of foods on the buffet, plus a nice menu selection of delicious hot breakfast items. We felt pampered! Highly recommend.

Made reservations here based on a TA rave review, and so glad we did! What a lovely, restful place! We were greeted by John and he was endlessly patient (despite a relatively late arrival) and got us settled in. The house is warm & inviting....like a favorite Aunt's house, or that of an old friend. The sitting room fire was burning, and we felt instantly comfortable. Our room was huge, and after a good night's sleep we went down for a substantial & delicious breakfast. Mary chatted with us about our plans for the day, and both she & John gave us suggestions. They were kind enough to hold our bags while we went to Muckross House for a tour and jaunting car ride. Since we were in Ireland for our eldest daughter's wedding to an Irishman, Mary told us about an Irish tradition to guarantee good weather for the ceremony, and where to get the Infant of Prague statue that we gave to our future son-in-law.....he was so touched by it! We couldn't resist walking around the beautiful grounds of the house before we left, and so wished we could have stayed longer! We will be back!!!!

Absolutely beautiful place! The home was immaculate the hosts were welcoming and attentive. There was a beautiful garden/lawn area outside to enjoy the lovely garden. Breakfast consisted of both a serve yourself for fruits, pastries, rolls, cheeses, cereals, yogurts, etc. But in addition to those lovely choices, our beautiful hostess also took an order for a hot, made-to-order breakfast. Everything about our stay was lovely. I highly recommend!

My husband and I had the pleasure of spending 2 nights at Friar’s Glen this past May. Everything from the ground, to the house, to the breakfast area, and to our room, was beautiful and spotless. Each morning, we enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast spread that included fresh juices, homemade pastries, mini charcuterie boards, and a la carte specials. Mary and John were wonderful hosts who took great pride in providing their guests with top-notch experiences. Thank you both for your warm hospitality.

This place gets top marks for hospitality, food, cleanliness, and ambient charm, both inside and out. Oh, and the rooms are wonderfully big. It felt like a warm hug. There are two comfortable rooms in which to read and an inviting fire in the evenings. The grounds are spacious and well-groomed with floral displays that beg to be photographed. You won't be disappointed with this charming B and B.
