This was not a five star experience. I can’t fault the staff at all they were excellent but everything else was below the five star mark. The room was average and tv was tiny. The lunch menu was lacking, I got a “sourdough sandwich” it was like something I’d make in my toastie maker at home. The presentation was horrific. The atmosphere in the lounges was awful, you could hear a pen drop. We ended up going back upstairs with our drinks as there was no background music. We loved the waiter at our dinner he was fabulous and was the highlight of our trip.

Birthday weekend break with my sister. I do not use language like this lightly but we went from one mess to another. 5 phones calls before we ever arrived about dinner & breakfast eventually telling us we had no reservations. Having to escalate to management. Receiving a room upgrade, but rather than to equivalent of what we booked,upgrading us to a double. Offering a complimentary glass of champagne for our inconvenience. The two glasses of champagne were then spilt on me. While trying to let that go & enjoy a dinner, listening to our waiter tell other diners what he had done. Yeah, gas man! Finding the chateau Briand supplement, which we were advised at dinner was complimentary, on our bill. Next morning at 11.15 breakfast, having to follow up on juice, then tea/coffee and wrong breakfast arriving & then finally received my breakfast at 12.15. the pros were a very comfortable bed & the much needed thermal spa. Management seemed surprised by our complaints & not empowered to ensure we left the hotel with a feeling that they were trying to make up for this very negative & upsetting experience. I've felt better treated in 3 star hotels so I don't know how ratings are awarded but we didn't receive the 5 star experience, not even close. If I could give 0.5 I would

Pros : The hotel itself is gorgeous , I loved the lobby and the restaurant and bar area, the rooms were also nice. The staff were super friendly and very polite, it was obvious they really wanted to help. The cocktails were AMAZING! Absolutely gorgeous. The food was nice- not five stars but not bad either. Cons: The service was TERRIBLE. This was such a pity as the staff were so so lovely and polite and I don’t think it was their fault; I think they don’t have adequate training or leadership from management. On our first day I had a drink, got the bill and waited 30 minutes to pay- it seems once you have your food/drink you are forgotten about. On our second day we sat in a very empty lounge for drinks. We sat for 40 minutes with empty glasses trying to get the waitresses attention, it was not busy at this time and there was only one other table in the whole of the lounge area. Eventually we got up and asked for a drink. On our third night in the lounge we were seated at 9.00 and by 9.30 we didn’t even have a glass of water. We waited 30 minutes for a pint and then later 40 minutes for a gin and tonic. It seemed as if there are too many people working in the same area but none of them know what they were supposed to be doing as there was an abundance of staff but there was no one designated to for example taking drink orders in the front section-everyone was doing a small bit of everything but that left a lot of basic tasks not being done. For example empty plates being left in front of us for 30 minutes. Another evening we came down at 7pm while our room was being cleaned and the lounge was almost empty. We explained we had a booking for half 9 but wanted a table for 20 minutes for a drink- the waitress seemed completely baffled and was pulling out pieces of paper and running around to ask different staff, none of whom had a clue what to do. Eventually she led us to a table, we asked for a different one but she said they were all booked- even though when we left there was no one there. It seems like everyone is placed in the restaurant in general with no specific role or guidance and told to just do what they can but there is no one in charge of a particular section or area- In which case chaos is inevitable. We heard three other couples also complaining about the service - one group was upset that they waited 40 minutes for drinks to be told It was not last orders. Another issue we had was with the cleaning- because of Covid the rooms couldn’t be cleaned until after 4.00. This was inconvenient because we like to rest and shower or get ready then and it’s awkward to be waiting for cleaning to be done so we rang and asked when they would be coming so we could organise our evening. We agreed with one particular secretary 6.30. By 6.45 no one had come so I rang again. The same secretary answered and asked who had told us 6:30, when it had been her? She told us she would send someone up now and 20 minutes later someone arrived. The following day we spoke to the same girl at reception and she told us cleaning starts at 5:00 pm, even though the day before she said at 4:00, the whole thing was very bizarre. I definitely would not recommend this hotel at the moment, maybe in the future when their staff are properly trained or more experienced but I would expect far better service from a 5 star hotel. For such an expensive and allegedly luxurious hotel you could stay in a stunning hotel with excellent service in Dublin for example.

It was so lovely to get away and have some fun indoors again. The atmosphere in the hotel was great. Had a great experience with the food and drinks but in particular with Brenna who never stopped smiling, even though she was wearing a face mask. She recommended us cocktails, laughed at our jokes and always checked up on us. I hope she stays working in the G hotel or at least hotels for a long time she brings fun to the place and makes you feel so special, while still being professional. Thank you Brenna keep doing what your doing.

Had the most incredible stay in the g hotel last week , it was the perfect treat after lockdown. We enjoyed lovely food and cocktails in the lounges but what made our stay better was the level of service and professionalism from all staff. A massive credit to Brenna for making us feel so welcome and taking the time to talk to us even though she was very busy. Wishing her the best in her hotel career I know she will go far with her enthusiasm for hotels.
