I highly recommend that hotel for business stays if you need to visit Google, Facebook or The Dock - 5 mins walk! Nice clean rooms with a nice gym, pool and bar than you can chill and work:) Staff is super kind and caring!

A great place to stay in central Dublin on the banks of the Liffey. Very comfortable room and spotlessly clean. Excellent buffet breakfast served in hotel. East restaurant also recommended for lunch or dinner. Staff exceptionally good.

I booked The Spencer as I special surprise for my partner, after spending hours researching and reading reviews online to look for the best hotel I could possibly find. I finally settled on The Spencer as it looked so peaceful, spacious and light. I've personally had to save every penny I could to keep it a secret from my partner and to be able to afford our stay. I even wrote a heart felt message in the additional comments section at the time of booking, explaining how very important this trip was so me and the expense I had gone to stay - We had a terrible morning with airports and transfers and had been awake travelling since 4am, all we could think about was getting to our hotel to get some much needed rest and I was looking forward to my partner finally seeing the extraordinary room I had booked.  We arrived at 11:30pm and we were delighted when they said at check in our room was ready. Unfortunately  that was to be the only positive news we had during our stay. First of all the receptionist couldnt find our booking, then she confused us with another guest who was meant to arrive the day before. In the end I dug around in my bag to find the confirmation I had printed and handed it to the receptionist who found our booking.  Relief.  I had purposely moved the exact amount of the hotel costs into a private savings account I had been using to keep the price from my partner, so imagine our shock when the receptionist told us it was going to another £50 per night, that we could use towards drinks & food during our stay and any unused amount would be refunded at the end.  I did not prepare for this as it was never mentioned to me in any stage of the booking, to ensure calm I agree to the £50 charge per night although we had plans to eat out and explore together but the extra charges meant we were tied into spending for drinks and food at the hotel as the unexpected charges had taken a large amount from my spending budget. The charges are taken and we are given our keys.  As we left the lift, to the left of our room was a gaping hole in the wall where some kind of building works were happening. No sooner had we walked into the room, the work continued. Drilling, hammering, talking, I have taken a couple of videos to show the level of noise we are experiencing in our suite. The work would start at 8/9am and continue throughout our stay. We were tired, stressed after our travels all I wanted was to have a nap, and for the break to give us rest and relaxation.   There was no way we could sleep with the noise so we left to get some food and drinks. Hoping the work would be complete by the time we came back.  upon returning.. The work was still ongoing and can be heard clearly from our room. We tried to get some sleep but to no avail for myself in particular.  As we were so tired and seem to have £150 available spend at the hotel already deducted from my account we ordered room service food, when the food arrived the woman who brought it up handed us a card machine stating that they'd tried to take to cost of the meals from my card but it had been declined and to use another card. This panicked me no end as I only have limited funds with the £150 unexpected take out on top of the booking. We explained the situation and she seemed genuinely confused and flustered. Meanwhile I had gone right off eating. Once the staff had left my partner rang to speak to duty manager as he had really had enough.  Shortly afterwards we had a visit from the duty manager now on shift (PM) we explained everything that had happened and he was very understanding. Unfortunately he has informed us that he wasn't going to be working for the next couple of days so have us managements email address to contact them. I had a call approx a week before our stay asking for up to date card details, during this call I was never made aware of any work being carried out during our stay, also during check in, no mention  of any work being carried out next to our bedroom. If the booking had been last minute we could understand, but i booked the penthouse in October, giving 8 months for the hotel to have prior warned me of works in the hotel. As a side note, these things alone would not have impacted our stay, but along with everything else it has just added to the lack of experience I was expecting.  - No bathrobes in the room  - No breakfast order menu - Lightbulbs not working in the living area  - No bottle opener for bottle Eventually we came to an agreement with management of a discounted rate per night at the hotel. We have accepted this, and are waiting the amount to be refunded into our account, which upon arriving home we called the hotel and they've advised this could be up to 14 days. If we have anything positive to say it is that the leisure facilities are good, and we enjoyed spending time with the bar staff, room service staff are nice and we had breakfast daily which was very tasty. I'm surprised not to see any other reviews re: building works as they could be heard clearly over the hotel. All in all, I'm sure if there's not 40 rooms with balconies being built outside you penthouse suite door, perhaps it would be an enjoyable stay. I would still say this hotel and "The penthouse suite" is overrated and I honestly would look elsewhere, there is many options in the area besides this one.

When we book hotels, it is mainly five criteria that we look at; The hotel's location, the hotel's standard, the hotel's prices, hotel reviews from guests and the hotel breakfast room (photos!). In this case, the hotel met all the points of 'praise approved' - excellent light and airy location on the river and only a fifteen minute walk down to the city, moderate prices for its standard (not cheap but not over priced), clean, quiet and with good service (no luxury hotel, they did their job). Good and generous breakfast. We were fortunate to also get one of the better rooms on the hotel's roof with breathtaking views of the whole city! We and the seagulls ... (yes, they were there, so if you are afraid of birds then the room is not recommended)
