Nestled in the heart of Dublin, The Shelbourne, Autograph Collection, receives accolades for its superb location that puts guests steps away from the city's prime attractions. Visitors are charmed by the rooms that marry classic elegance with modern amenities, although some have voiced that the spaces can feel compact.

“My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at The Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin over the weekend, and every moment was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality that exceeded all expectations. Special thanks to Nicholas, the bellhop, who was so attentive and helped us settle in smoothly. Rachel at the front desk made our check-in seamless and ensured we had everything we needed to start our stay on a perfect note. Throughout our stay, the service was impeccable. Karl and Greg, the doormen, greeted us with such genuine warmth and hospitality every time we returned to the hotel, making us feel like VIPs. Orla, Shauna, and Eva at the concierge desk were incredibly knowledgeable and helped us craft the ideal itinerary to explore Dublin, with thoughtful recommendations for everything from hidden gems to classic must-sees. Our experience in The Saddle Room restaurant was simply amazing. Ana, Mariel, Jennifer, and Daniel provided the best dining experience we could have asked for—attentive without being intrusive and wonderfully accommodating. Every meal was a highlight of our stay, and their attention to detail made it extra special. Eugene and other housekeeping staff went above and beyond to ensure our room was spotless and cozy, with thoughtful touches that made us feel right at home. The Shelbourne team exemplifies outstanding service and genuine care, creating a luxurious and memorable experience that we’ll never forget. We can’t wait to return to Dublin and stay here again! Thank you to everyone who made our weekend so wonderful!!!!.”

Amazing hotel in perfect location across from St Stephen’s Green and with top notch service and accommodations from the moment of our arrival! Absolutely love how kind and competent everyone on staff is! Several doormen are available to help with luggage, or hail a car for guests. The concierge has wonderful suggestions for local attractions. And every inch of the hotel is perfect—Lobby, dining room, bar, tea room, bedrooms and suites. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable, the bathroom water pressure is wonderful, the soaps and hand soaps are lovely, and the complimentary coffee, tea and water service in-room is lovely, too. Room service is prompt and the food is prepared perfectly. Dining room breakfast is substantial and enjoyable with fresh-pressed juices available in addition to the full buffet and regulars tea, coffee and juice options. I felt totally pampered in every way! I can’t wait to return again!!

The Shelbourne is undoubtedly a stunning hotel, offering a grand and welcoming atmosphere upon arrival. We visited iduring some holiday festivitues , and the hotel was quite busy.
I had reserved two rooms for three nights. At check-in, my Bonvoy status was not acknowledged and rooms not upgraded (guessing due to high occupancy) My room was situated next to the elevator and it could be quite noisy. While the rooms are somewhat dated, they are tastefully appointed. Although the carpet showed some wear and the climate control system was outdated, excellent housekeeping, comfortable beds and linens, and luxurious pillows made up for these minor drawbacks. The bathroom also had instant hot water.
During our stay, the hotel experienced a widespread issue with key cards. My room key failed to work on both the first and second days, and this problem also affected the elevators. I had to visit the front desk several times for reprogramming. This was an annoyance.
Despite upgrading to higher-speed internet, the download speed was disappointingly slow, at just 10mbps.
Saturday morning breakfast was chaotic. We arrived at 9:30 and were asked to wait in a charming room next to the large Christmas tree until our room number was called. After waiting over an hour, it seemed there was no clear system for managing the waiting list.
A few highlights: Michael, the bartender at the upstairs bar, was fantastic, and the cozy ambiance there was a great touch. Eva from Concierge was exceptional, arranging a wonderful reservation for us at a fantastic off-site restaurant. The subsequent breakfasts were much smoother, with excellent service and a great variety of food. The holiday decorations throughout the hotel were beautiful. The location cannot be beat - right across St. Stephen's Green and walking distance to many sites, restaurants and shopping.
Like any large hotel, the Shelbourne faces its share of challenges. However, the outstanding service and the wonderful staff made our stay at this grand, historic hotel a memorable and worthwhile experience.

Dear YLtraveler, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your stay at The Shelbourne. We're delighted to hear that you had a great time overall and appreciated the hotel's stunning atmosphere, excellent housekeeping, and the cozy ambiance of the upstairs bar. We apologise for the inconveniences you experienced, such as the lack of Bonvoy status acknowledgment, the noise from the elevator, and the outdated climate control system. We understand how these issues can impact your stay, and we will address them to improve our guests' experience. The key card issues and the slow internet speed you encountered are certainly frustrating, and we are working on resolving these technical problems to ensure a smoother stay for our guests in the future. We regret the chaotic breakfast experience on Saturday morning and the long wait times. We will review our system to manage the waiting list more efficiently and ensure a better dining experience. We're pleased to hear that Michael at the upstairs bar (1824) and Eve from Concierge provided exceptional service, and that you enjoyed the holiday decorations and the hotel's prime location. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we strive to enhance our services. We hope to welcome you back soon and provide you with an even better experience. Warm regards, Andrew J. This was without a doubt the best hotel experience. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was immaculate and quiet. The food and drinks were excellent. The location was perfect for exploring Dublin being within walking distance to museums, live music, and dining. I would live in this hotel if it was an option. One tip for those not in the known to turn on the lights for the room you have to insert a keycard by the door, it’s a sensible idea since it insures that lights are turned off when you leave, but we didn’t know about this and spent a good 10 minutes feeling like there was something we weren’t getting before we figured it out.

We love The Shelbourne and have stayed here twice, for one week both times. The rooms are delightful, albeit a little quaint. The service from all the staff is wonderful. Breakfasts are an event. The attention to detail is amazing -- one morning I saw someone from house cleaning carefully polishing the brass railing. We stayed here in 2019 and again in 2024 -- it was just like we remembered it.'
It is convenient for walking around in central Dublin to see the sights and there are plenty of restaurant options nearby.

The Shelbourne Dublin is undeniably a beautiful and historic building, impeccably maintained, and rich with charm. The service is excellent—staff are attentive and professional, although there’s a slightly smug attitude that feels a bit out of place for a five-star hotel.
Unfortunately, the room itself was a disappointment. Despite the grandeur of the hotel, the linens were tattered, and the towel rack was not only dusty but also failed to warm. Details like the toilet paper roll being mounted at a 45-degree angle only added to the sense that the room’s upkeep wasn’t quite on par with the high price point. For €800 a night, these basic amenities shouldn’t need to be mentioned; they should be flawless by default.

I can't say enough good things about our experience at the Shelbourne! The staff were remarkable in every single way, friendly, welcoming and very helpful. We had a delux king room with no view. It was very spacious and well appointed. The daily housekeeping and turn down service was lovely. We did send out a wee bit of laundry which came back cleaner than it had ever been. While expensive it was worth it. I used the health club daily. As an avid lap swimmer I was very happy with the 18 m lap pool. The steam room was great and while I did not use the rest of the fitness facilities they looked very good. They do offer yoga several times a week. The only drawback was the shower water in the ladies locker room never got very warm. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and I would say probably slightly better than most of the other Marriott properties we have stayed at in Europe. I have Celiac Disease and while there was plenty for me to eat most of the hot food items did contain gluten. There was packaged gluten free scones, cookies and the staff were able to provide gluten-free toast for me. I did not over anything off the breakfast menu but I believe they could have provided gluten-free hot food for me if I wanted. We also had dinner twice in the No 27 bar. The food was very good but I did encounter an issue with some confusion about if the hamburger without a bun was gluten-free or not. The first night the staff assured me there was not gluten in the actual hamburger meat. I enjoyed it and did not get sick. Two days later the staff told me there was gluten in the meat and I could not have it and they were very firm about that. I did follow up with someone the next morning and was assured there was not gluten in the burger meat but this really left me without confidence in the staff's knowledge. Other than that it was a wonderful stay and we would return in a heart beat!

I stayed from 18 Dec 2024 - 2 January 2025. The experience was very mixed with a lot of failures.
No welcome drinks. Poorly trained staff on reception. No upgrades to Marriott Ambassador member offered. You have to ask and then they have to go to the back room for help to look for it. Never happened me before and I spend 100 nights in hotels annually.
As for the Lord Mayors lounge, the food is very average (I had dinner twice and both times average and lukewarm). The wine selection by the glass is pitiful and badly selected. They could use a sommelier to get much better quality wine. Charge me €2 more per glass as I’m already paying €600 per night on the room. I don’t care but you had nothing at the standard I expect from a 5 Star hotel. The lighting is super bright and it is baffling as the environment is cold and unwelcoming. They used to light the open fire in this area but not anymore which makes it even more unfriendly. I’m baffled how a hotel manager can’t make these simple 3 changes to make it into a comfortable lounge.
Queueing for breakfast almost every day - crazy. I don’t know if I was competing with non-guests but waiting 30 minutes on a windy reception is not what I expect at this price point.
Heating not working in my room - brought me plug in heater. Do I need to say more.
Terrible service and attitude at no.27 Bar. When I asked if I should wait for the lady to take my order or go up she told me she would take my order when she was ready so I waited and she never was ready! So I walked up. With a few exceptions, most of the staff were awful and clearly badly trained. The exceptions were Lord Mayors bar at evening time, Valet and breakfast staff - the best. The rooms are generally not bad but old and dated with some creaky floorboards. Gym closed 3 hours early one day because the sole receptionist was not feeling well. Not sure why they didn’t have anyone else to cover. Door to gym from stairwell was also locked so I had to go outside the front of the building to gain access on another day. Also totally crazy. I could go on but I won’t! Overall, a lot of work to be done by Marriott and local management (assuming they shouldn’t be replaced) This volume of failures needs some serious rethinking.

Dear Peter, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay at the Shelbourne Hotel. We sincerely apologise for the numerous issues you encountered during your visit. Your experience does not reflect the high standards we strive to maintain, and we deeply regret the inconvenience caused. We are particularly concerned about the lack of welcome drinks, the reception staff's training, and the failure to offer upgrades to our Marriott Ambassador members. These are fundamental aspects of our service, and we will address these shortcomings with our team immediately. Regarding your dining experience at the Lord Mayor's Lounge, we apologise for the average quality of the food and the limited wine selection. We also acknowledge your comments about the lighting and the ambiance, and we will review these aspects to create a more welcoming environment. The wait times for breakfast and the issues with the heating in your room are unacceptable. We are taking steps to ensure these problems are resolved promptly. Additionally, the service you received at No. 27 Bar and the early closure of the gym are not in line with our standards. We will provide further training to our staff to improve their service and ensure better coverage for our facilities. We appreciate your recognition of the positive aspects, such as the evening staff at the Lord Mayor's Bar, the valet, and the breakfast staff. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us identify areas for improvement. We are committed to making the necessary changes to enhance our guests' experiences and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Warm regards, Andrew J. This was a disappointing experience. We held a joint celebration here (40th and 80th) we booked 3 rooms and an evening meal in the saddle room. They were supposed to put chocolates in the rooms where the main guests were staying but forgot. We then went to the saddle room where they messed up the reservation and we had to ‘squeeze’ another chair in which was really uncomfortable. Then the waitress brought the birthday cake and prompted the guy whose birthday it was to sing happy birthday. Despite being told whose birthday it was they couldn’t even get that right. The icing on the cake was when they had no room to host us for a quiet drink after and ended up sending us into the main bar where the music was loud and we had an 8 year old with us. It ended the evening early. Overall a poor showing from a very popular and expensive hotel. Hope this review helps someone.
